Publisher's Review
Translator's Preface

-The positivistic epistemology and quantitative research methods that had long dominated social science research came under widespread criticism and resistance around the 1980s, leading to a heated debate over the paradigm of quantitative-qualitative research.
It was seen as a battle with winners and losers, and each side gave rise to heroes and anti-heroes.
As the 1990s progressed, a gradual reconciliation and ceasefire were achieved, with each side acknowledging the other's grounds and research methods.
Researchers who were accustomed to only quantitative methods such as experimental design, measurement, and statistical analysis now face the daunting task of learning new concepts, terminology, and abstract and profound theories, and sometimes find themselves in situations where they must teach or apply methodologies they had not previously learned.
While I was skeptical about the value of qualitative research, I read books and journals that helped me keep up with the times, and I also attended related workshops and conferences.
Meanwhile, social scientists who had shown serious interest and fervent passion for qualitative research methods also had a difficult time.
Although they formed research groups and held academic conferences to oppose the discourse that had dominated methodology and to generate new theories and practices, they remained in the minority.
Passionate support for the potential of qualitative research for alternative discourse and genuine social change often went unanswered in reality.
Translators have also experienced how much qualitative research, which has awakened us to the importance of interpreting pluralistic meanings by listening to the vivid voices of research participants rather than simply reducing human experience to mere relationships between variables or quantified effect sizes, has struggled in reality, and how despite the academic recognition of qualitative research's value, it remains marginalized in areas such as its impact on policy decisions and research funding.

-However, as time passes, qualitative research has become conventional and is now facing criticism for being applied mechanically and procedurally.
What is it about qualitative research methods that once excited and inspired researchers that has now broken down? What is the problem? Where should we go now? How can methodology be reshaped? The translators sought an alternative to positivist methodologies trapped in the logic of representation, but they humbly listened to the diverse voices sharply criticizing the conventionalization of qualitative research, which has become mired in technique and gradually established yet another logic of representation.
As a researcher who supports and practices qualitative research, encountering post-qualitative methodology and seeing things I had not seen before, thinking about data differently, and creating new stories was by no means an easy task.
This journey of reading unfamiliar theories and concepts, awakening the vitality of data, and practicing experimental methods was accompanied by the shame of looking back at ourselves, past and present, in their bare faces.
But at the same time, the joy of returning to and reimagining social science research through post-qualitative research has provided us with an unwavering energy that will not let up in our slow translation work.

- "Post-Qualitative Research and Innovative Methodologies" is neither a manual that researchers seeking to explore the uncharted territory of post-qualitative research can safely follow, nor is it a textbook that easily categorizes or explains the procedures and techniques of post-qualitative research.
Post-qualitative methodology emphasizes that the lived experiences or voices of research participants are not predetermined or fixed, but rather are created through chance encounters and specific arrangements and relationships.
Post-qualitative research disrupts and disrupts the stable territory of conventional qualitative research and normalized knowledge, and focuses on the potential for new and different ways to think about research data through theories such as poststructuralist philosophy, new materialism, posthumanism, and ecofeminism.
The translators have never had an easy time, but through the translation of this book, they hope to connect complex and diverse theories and experimental methods, inviting researchers interested in post-qualitative research into the narratives that emerge and are co-created within the intertwined phenomena of research—researchers and participants, time, space, matter, and discourse.
