The Hidden Power of Sports: Sports Psychology Counseling
Description
Book Introduction
Sport and exercise psychology is the scientific study and application of human behavior in the context of sport and exercise (Gill & Williams, 2008). Sport and exercise psychology is concerned with one of two goals: The first is to understand how human psychology influences sport and exercise performance, and the second is to understand how sport and exercise participation influences an individual's psychological development and health (Weinberg & Gould, 2015). Within these two frameworks, theoretical verification and field research on the relationship between human psychology, exercise, and health, as well as the relationship between various psychological factors and athletic performance, were conducted, and new theoretical models were developed. Interest in and development of sports and exercise psychology has given rise to many related professions. Of these, the most curious profession is probably “sports psychology counselor.” There are experts around the world who provide direct psychological support to athletes and teams. Their roles are expanding beyond improving athletic performance to encompass well-being, rehabilitation, businesses, and the military, broadening their horizons. |
