Putting down prayer
Description
Book Introduction
Prayer as taught by Venerable Pomnyun

This is a book about 'prayer' by Monk Beopryun, who contributed to the popularization of Buddhism through books such as 'Buddha, Shake Me' and 'Dyeing with Buddha'.
People often think that they do it to make a lot of money or to achieve a higher social status.
Of course, success in the world is also important.
But true prayer must be done to empty the mind.
Venerable Pomnyun said he wrote this book to help more people, regardless of religion or denomination, empty themselves through true prayer rather than mere wishful thinking.

After explaining prayers that bring good fortune and prayers that bring bad fortune, this book teaches us about 'prayer that brings good fortune' and 'how to be happy in any situation.'
It guides you through the experience of self-transformation through practices such as ‘how to control your mind’ and ‘how to let go of anger.’
It also talks about what a perfect prayer is and what the 'proper way to pray' is to have all your wishes come true.

Publisher's Review
Prayers that create happiness, prayers that bring misfortune
Control your mind and design happiness!

Why are you praying now?
Here's how to be happy in any situation!
Teachings of self-transformation through 『How to Control Your Mind』 and 『How to Let Go of Anger』!

The publication of "Prayer - Letting Go," a self-help book for those dreaming of personal transformation.
A self-transformation project by Venerable Pomnyun, author of "Immediate Questions and Answers"

Venerable Pomnyun, a leading Buddhist priest of the Pure Land Society and chairman of the Peace Foundation, recently published a new book, Prayer: Letting Go.
At the 'Q&A Dharma Assembly', when people asked questions about the various difficulties and hardships of life, Venerable Pomnyun always gave clear answers along with the words, 'Pray.'
He taught us that we can change ourselves through prayer, and that only through self-change can we attain true happiness and freedom.

All suffering arises because of my ignorance.
Turn your eyes inward.
Then you can find a solution.
This ‘effort to turn one’s eyes inward’ is prayer.
So, to those who ask questions and to those who complain about prayer, I say, “Just pray, and leave it up to Him whether it happens or not.”

People still wander from one religion to another, from one temple to another, seeking spiritual power through prayer.
When what you want is achieved, you rejoice, thinking that you have achieved something wonderful or that you have received the Buddha's blessings. When what you want is not achieved, you become discouraged and resentful.
However, in his book, “Prayer - Letting Go,” Venerable Pomnyun explains the prayers that bring good fortune and the prayers that bring misfortune, and then teaches us “a prayer that brings about all things” and “a way to be happy in any situation.”
A book titled “Prayer - Letting Go” that guides you through the process of experiencing self-transformation through practices such as “How to Control Your Mind” and “How to Let Go of Anger.”

Prayers that bring happiness, prayers that bring misfortune
Master your mind and design happiness

In all religions, including Buddhism, it refers to a life of prayer.
But what is the reality? People often pray in half-hearted prayers, feeling happy and in heaven when their wishes come true, and in pain and hell when they don't.
So, what is a perfect prayer? What is the "proper way to pray" that will grant all your wishes?

When praying, you must not attach your own greed to asking for something.
If you let go of your greed and pray with a clear mind and bright eyes, that prayer will be miraculous.
Achieving your goals is easier and faster.
(Omitted) Do not pray like a beggar begging for small change.
You must make a big circle and pray for that circle to be fulfilled.
This is the desirable prayer we should pray.

How to live proudly without being cowardly, and humbly without being arrogant
Regarding the decision to hold a 24-hour prayer vigil during the 49-day memorial service for Venerable Manjusri, who committed suicide to demand a halt to the Four Major Rivers Project, Venerable Pomnyun said, “When a monk prays, it must be for the benefit of all living beings.
He said, “Prayer is not a passive expression of what one wants to obtain, but an active expression of one’s vows.”

The origin means letting go of my greed and stubbornness, making a wish, and trying to achieve it.
The origin refers to the mind that wants to realize something.
The origin is to seek enlightenment to create a world where everyone is happy.

The new book, “Prayer-Letting Go,” helps us establish the right perspective on prayer.

‘Prayer’ is practiced in every religion, each with its own form and content.
But prayer is also a subject with universal value that transcends the realm of each religion.
In this lecture commemorating the publication of 『Prayer - Letting Go』, Venerable Pomnyun plans to go beyond religion and sect to rediscover the essential meaning of 'prayer' and seek a correct view of faith.
