Others Waiting for the Messiah
Description
Book Introduction
"In our daily lives where we only focus on the main character,
"Meeting the 'Others' Jesus Focused on"
As the days go by, instead of following Jesus and tearing down the walls that block us, we build them higher and higher, creating boundaries and establishing 'camps'.
Regardless of what happens 'outside me', if it helps 'us' to do well, they do not hesitate to bring down the other person.
In the gap between such conflicts, there are those who do not belong to either 'us', or those who belong but are marginalized and groan because they are not noticed.
The 2025 Advent devotional, "Others Waiting for the Messiah," reflects on the events that occurred in our daily lives throughout the year and listens to the voices of "others."
We reflect on ourselves as we meditate on how Jesus Christ stood with those who stood outside the boundaries, with the weak and the marginalized.
The Messiah does not come only to the protagonists.
He is with everyone and everywhere.
This Advent, I hope we can sit next to those 'others' who are enduring the coldest winter of all, hold their hands, and wait together for the return of Jesus.
1) Reading one verse of the Bible every day
Contains 18 devotional passages for meditation during the Advent season of 2025 (November 30-24).
2) Meditation through Advent-related music
This collection includes music meditations that reflect on the meaning of Advent through Advent-related music.
3) 'Advent Prayer with the Members of the Korean Church'
It contains a joint Advent prayer that all Christians in the Korean church pray together, transcending denominations and sects.
4) Advent devotional collection created jointly by representative organizations of Korean churches
This is a collection of meditations created jointly by representative Korean church organizations, including the Korea YWCA Federation, the Korea YMCA National Federation, the Christian Broadcasting System (CBS), and the Korean Christian Literature Society.
They agreed that overcoming the division between denominations, which is currently a major issue in the Korean church, and the need for unity and integration between churches and organizations are necessary, and as part of this effort, they decided to publish a meditation book that can be used by all members of the Korean church, regardless of denomination or sect.
Accordingly, starting in 2016, we published both a Lenten devotional and an Advent devotional.
Beginning in 2022, due to reader demand, we will be publishing a Lenten devotional instead of a Holy Week devotional.

Publisher's Review
"In our daily lives where we only focus on the main character,
"Meeting the 'Others' Jesus Focused on"
Many would agree that 2025 was a year in which South Korean society was particularly divided and confrontations between the two sides were particularly evident.
People are quick to form camps and distinguish between those who will be included in 'our' group and those who will not.
Instead of tearing down the existing wall, they build it higher and create a boundary.
As the days go by, I don't care what happens 'outside me', I just focus on doing well for myself and making sure we live well.
And in between, there are the 'others' who do not belong to either 'us', or who belong but are marginalized and groan because they do not receive attention.
How should we, as Christians, live in these times that can be called 'critical'?
The 2025 Advent devotional, "Others Waiting for the Messiah," reflects on the events that occurred in our daily lives throughout the year and listens to the voices of "others."
Professor Baek So-young, author of the meditation on the Word, invites readers to a place to remember Jesus Christ, who willingly stood with those outside the boundaries, the weak, and the marginalized.
He said, “I share this year’s meditation with the earnest hope that during Advent, a season of waiting for the ‘Prince of Peace,’ who has broken down the walls of division, we will turn our gaze from always focusing only on the main character and meet the ‘other people’ that Jesus has focused on.”
『Others Waiting for the Messiah』 is designed to be read and meditated on one chapter a day from November 30th, the first day of Advent this year, to December 24th, the last day.
Every Saturday, there is a musical meditation related to Advent, with music selections and commentary by a practicing composer and conductor.
We also included a YouTube link address and QR code so that you can listen to the related music directly.
Additionally, the prayers of the Korean Church United Organization, which are offered together every Sunday, are included.
『Others Waiting for the Messiah』 is an Advent devotional book created jointly by representative Korean church organizations, including the Korea YWCA Federation, the Korea YMCA National Federation, the Christian Broadcasting System (CBS), and the Christian Literature Society of Korea (CLSK).

As part of this effort, since 2016, they have been publishing a collection of devotionals (Lent, Advent) that can be used by all believers in the Korean church, regardless of denomination or sect.
At the end of the year, when Christmas is celebrated, events are held in various places to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the year.
The main characters receive much cheering and congratulations under the bright spotlight.
But behind those dazzling lights, there are still people who live in marginalization and suffering.
The Messiah comes to them in the same way.
I hope that we can become Christians who sit next to those who are enduring the coldest winter, hold their hands, and wait together for the return of Jesus.
