Book Introduction
Reading Korean history in a new way, like never before
The turbulent times we have walked through from 1901 to 2021,
Let's stand on the vivid foundation that makes us who we are today, 『Cross-Crossing Korean History』!

K-pop and K-content are gaining global attention, and at some point, K-culture is considered a word that symbolizes our pride.
Many people are visiting museums in person and even opening merchandise shops, showing unprecedented pride in history and culture.
Fueled by this fervent interest in Korean culture, interest in Korean history is also rapidly spreading.
Furthermore, 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of liberation, making it an ideal time to reflect on the times we have lived through and their roots, and to ask ourselves, "How do we stand here now and where should we go from here?"

『Crossing Korean History』, with the subtitle '121 Years of the Korean Peninsula Crossed by Chronology, 1901-2021', is a book that has been fully absorbed into five years of planning and three years of writing. Author Seokbong Jang, who is currently working as an all-round knowledge curator while planning and publishing the 『World Dictionary of All Things』, meticulously examined books and materials in the field of history as reference materials, and supervised the design of the text in which Korean history and world history unfold in parallel, and the creation of intuitive and concise historical infographics.
This book, which is broadly divided into four periods: the Korean Empire (1901–1910), the Japanese colonial period (1910–1945), the US military government period (1945–1948), and the Republic of Korea (1948–2021), determined that it was too early to establish an objective distance after 2022, so the boundary line was set at 2021.

Publisher's Review
The all-round knowledge curator who planned the 『World Encyclopedia of All Things』
A documentary book on modern Korean history
A panoramic view of the Korean Peninsula and the world!

The characteristics of 『Transverse Korean History』, which is not a fragment of disconnected history but rather a three-dimensional, interwoven history, are as follows.

1.
Editing skills that vividly show the events of 121 years at a glance

While existing textbooks on Korean history have focused on the chronology of each dynasty, 『Transverse Korean History』 organizes it in chronological order at a glance like a chronological table, while also showing the flow by theme, such as ‘Korea-World-Culture, Science, Sports-Scenery of That Year,’ thereby immersing readers.

2.
A structure and format that can be read by people of different generations

"Crossing Korean History" has established itself as a book that fulfills its role as a table book for the whole family.
It contains clear explanations that are easily accessible to any reader with even a passing interest in history, and it is also a valuable educational book that can be read and discussed by people of all ages, from teenagers to adults.

3.
An in-depth journey through Korean history with over 500 visual aids.

In order to make it a history book to read, we have evenly arranged the main photographic materials of that year, various historical records, and photos showing small daily life, so that you can develop the ability to look at history more richly.

4.
14 infographics that connect the context and flow between events.

Complex historical information and events such as 'The path of the Korean Empire, the March 1st Movement, things we have eaten, drunk, and used, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and people who fell in industrial accidents' were concisely organized using visual elements such as images and timelines, allowing readers to understand historical knowledge more easily and quickly.

5.
A history book that looks at people, not records, to give us a glimpse into 'us today.'

Rather than simply listing events, it helps readers develop a historical perspective by pointing out how the major scenes of each era connect to our society today.

Capturing the vivid pulse of history
『Cross-sectional Korean History』, connecting the pieces of Korean history in three dimensions!

『Crossing Korean History』 is not a book that simply lists the past, but rather a book that asks why we, living today, are standing here.
True to its original intention of "traversing the flow of time," this book weaves together disconnected events to offer a fresh perspective on modern and contemporary Korean history within a vast panorama.

As if following a documentary, readers will experience both continuity and discontinuity in history, starting with scenes from the Korean Empire in the early 20th century and reaching the dynamic state of the Republic of Korea today.
This is of great significance as we mark the 80th anniversary of liberation, as we look back on our roots and find our way forward.
