Meet the bestseller, "Poetry Asks Me to Live" in person!

Poet Na Tae-ju, who was loved by the people of South Korea for his poem “Wildflowers.”
He, who once fought an illness and was on the verge of death, says that the force that got him up from his difficult life was none other than 'poetry'.
In this book, a collection of manuscripts from the hit work, "Poetry Asks Me to Live," the poet has gathered together the poignant writings that have protected him and released them to the world.
Poet Na Tae-ju says that the reason he was able to keep beautiful poems in his heart for a long time was the power of ‘writing.’
Since I was young, if there was a poem I liked, I would copy it down in my own notebook and reflect on its meaning.
The poet confesses, “Just by copying good writing, I naturally come to know the world and discover my inner self.”

This collection of manuscripts, which contains only the poems that have protected him so far and the sentences that have recently comforted his heart, includes poems that have been loved across generations, such as Jeong Jung-sik's song "I am a Firefly" that was sung by singer Hwang Ga-ram and comforted the entire nation, "Dream of Becoming Water" by Lucid Fall, a "musician with beautiful lyrics" chosen by the poet, Park Jun, a young poet who has gained attention for his tearful poetry of youth, and Choi Seung-ja, who captivates readers with the language of the soul. Each piece is accompanied by poet Na Tae-joo's sincere commentary on the poem and sentences of deep thought.
As you read and write 『Poetry and I Ask You to Live』, you will experience a happy journey of finding the answers to life.

Into the book
I thought I was a shining star
I never doubted it
I didn't know I was a bug
But it's okay, I'm dazzling
- Jeong Jung-sik, "I am a firefly"

This poem is so imaginative that it lifts our minds to the stars at the end of the universe and then, with a bang, brings them back down to a place on Earth called Muju (Jeollabuk-do).
At such times, our hearts also share in the ups and downs.
well.
I shed tears for some reason.
When Yoo Jae-suk asked Hwang Ga-ram what she would say to herself when she was unknown, she was heard to respond like this.
“I want to tell you not to rush things, because worthwhile things don’t come easy.”
--- p.18

I wanted to be a person who loves others
Someone who loves me more than others
It ended up happening.
- Moon Jeong-hee's "Secret Memorandum"

How much of our lives do we actually live up to the expectations we place on ourselves?
We are depressed when faced with questions like these, but those who live while asking these questions can have a relatively pure life trajectory.

--- p.62

On a winter night when the wind chimes blow
There is ice forming in the water bowl on the upper level.
Grandma is under the blanket
Holding my young self in my arms
You keep mumbling to yourself
- Park No-hae, "Poem of That Winter"

In the process of achieving urbanization and industrialization in a short period of time, Korea had to embrace many contradictions, and the person who expressed the most urgent voice in the midst of these contradictions was none other than poet Park No-hae.
However, poet Park No-hae gradually opened up a wider poetic horizon by writing poems about everyday life, and the poem written above is one such work.

--- p.78

When I finally realized that the work behind the scenes, such as supporting when it was hard and supporting when it was hard, was not my business, my heart cracked and even the ceiling collapsed, but suddenly my heart started beating like it had never been before and the scent of summer wafted from the back of my neck out of nowhere.
- Lee Byeong-ryul, "History of Love"

It's just fresh.
Even though I don't fully understand it, his poetry breathes just as much as I do.
The existence beyond the 'wall', something.
yes.
You could call it love, you could call it life.
Poetry is like a vibration that is conveyed slightly differently depending on who reads it and when.
You could just say 'love' in simple terms, or you could say 'the definition of love'.

--- p.128

With a spoonful of rice, a drop of tears
What to fill,
Even if I eat rice with tears in my eyes.

No matter how much you love me
Or no matter how much I love you
-Choi Seung-ja "And so, one day, love"

It's creepy.
"Tear my body apart" and "break my arms and legs" and put them in your vase! It's like looking at a painting by legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.
It is surprising that there is a love that sings of love so intensely.

--- p.120

I walked like crazy trying not to go to you
Those countless roads too
Actually, it was directed at you
- Na Hee-deok, "Blue Night"

Love is like that too.
It's a tug of war between you and me.
No matter how much I love you, love is something that you have to accept.
By loving someone, we learn about the other person's existence.
Depending on the presence or function of others, we feel happy, sad, or lonely.

--- p.134

You are the first
As if it bloomed inside me
Forgetting is also like that
I wish it was just a moment
- Choi Young-mi, "At Seonunsa Temple"

What a vain sight! Camellia flowers are different from other flowers in that they break people's hearts when they wither.
The petals do not fall one by one, nor do they wither (dry up) in place.
It's all gone.
Stop.
I just ended up breaking my own balls.
The poet must have paid attention to this point.
After several seasons of hard work and effort, the camellia flower has become a flower, but it has decided to give up on itself so decisively.
This admiration gave birth to this poem.

--- p.138

Sometimes, if you listen to the wind blowing
Good you, don't forget even when you get tired,
The words of the wind coming from far away.

- Ma Jong-gi, "Words of the Wind"

Actually, that wind is the soul of the person I loved.
Because it was the wind, it hovered around me without a trace, watched me, and spoke to me.
I loved you, I love you, I will love you.
Oh, the futility and ephemerality of love.
Oh, greatness.
'Good you, don't forget me even when you're tired.' With just these words, we just fall apart.

--- p.166

The oaths and promises we exchanged are in the snow.

There are sighs, tears and wounds in my eyes.

I miss you, beautiful and sad eyes.
- Shin Kyeong-rim, "It's Snowing"

The last sentence, 'I miss you, your beautiful and sad eyes', lingers in my heart and makes me shiver.
Just as the sound of a large bell travels far and lingers in people's hearts, not being erased for a long time.
Reading a good poem is a joy that cannot be exchanged for anything else.

--- p.210

That's a wall
When we feel that there is an inevitable wall
at that time
The ivy climbs the wall silently.
- Do Jong-hwan, "Clematis"

Life is full of twists and turns, so even if you want to just give up, you shouldn't.
“Even if a tiger bites you, if you come to your senses, you will survive” and “Even if the sky falls, there is a hole to escape from.”
This is the poem that realized that.
--- p.304

Publisher's Review
Reading poetry is an act of understanding other people's lives.
Writing poetry is something that embraces my life.

"Poetry Tells Me to Live" is a collection of handwritten notes by poet Na Tae-ju, in which he rereads with his fingertips the sentences he has cherished in his heart for a long time.
This book, composed of 76 poems and 2 song lyrics, contains the confessions of a poet who has lived through poetry and continues to live by it.

Why do only poets feel that way?
It is everyone's hope, everyone's disappointment, and finally, everyone's regret.
In this way, each person kneels before himself.
- p.29 (Na Tae-ju, from "Bimeongrok" (by Moon Jeong-hee))

The world seen through the poet's clear eyes is quite different from the world we know.
As I read and copy poetry, feeling the breath of each sentence, the trembling of each word, and even the breath of each comma, I soon realize that I am following the poet's heart.
As I transcribe a single line, the poet's language becomes my language, and the emotions in the poem become the landscape of my heart.

The poems that poet Na Tae-ju has discovered and preserved with his delicate eye each display the essence of dazzling poetic inspiration.
These poems are furthermore a landscape of living sentences that have firmly supported the poet's life.
So, if you open the “Poet’s Notes,” which are written in a flowing style with deep reflection and insight into each and every line of poetry, you can fully experience not only the individuality and quality of each poem, but also the deep spiritual world of poet Na Tae-ju.
A rich commentary is a special gift that only the seasoned poet Na Tae-ju can offer.

-Poet's Note

Introducing Lee Hyeong-gi's "Fallen Flowers," the poet says, "All good poems contain sentences given by God, sentences that resonate with the soul, and the first sentence of this poem is one of them."
In Jeong Hyeon-jong’s “The Visitor,” it is written, “Good poetry and good sentences have tremendous power.
“It changes people’s hearts and changes their lives.”
And in Na Hee-deok's "Blue Night," the poet talks about "sadness," the fateful future of love, and through Ma Jong-gi's "Words of the Wind," he reads the fleetingness and grandeur of love.
It speaks of the miracles that occur in the presence of love and the power of poetry.

-The sentence that saved me

Poet Na Tae-ju unfolds the profound realizations he has gained through his long journey of writing poetry and the history of his emotions that have delicately changed over time, using language filled with his own honest confessions.
This is another corner of this book, “Sentences that Save Me.”
It offers a special experience of not only transcribing poetry, but also looking into the poet's sincerity and inner thoughts.

“What a poignant fact and precious asset it is for us that we speak the same language, share the same bloodline, have similar thoughts and expressions, and are connected at the root of our spirits.
“How grateful we are to have a hometown to return to when we are shaken, weary, and emotionally struggling.”

“Human love is fleeting.
It's a short song that spreads in an instant, and love is like joy.
Eternal love does not exist anywhere in the world.
Attempts are as fleeting as human life or love.
“It is just a spark of the moment, a moment of joy, and that song.”

“As I walk along the street, I gradually begin to hear my own voice resonating from within me.
Another voice, thin but clear, sprouts and resonates from the darkness at the bottom of the deep lake in my heart.
I had lived for too long forgetting that that voice was the guide of my soul and the source of my poetry.
It is never something to rush or be impatient about.
“All I have to do is listen carefully and wait for my inner voice.”

-The comfort of life that poetry gives me

For us living in a dry era, this book breathes the healing warmth of language and reminds us of the deep resonance of writing.
Poet Na Tae-ju, who never lost his firm faith in poetry while recalling the poetry that protected him even in the midst of illness, will now blossom with new vitality at the readers' fingertips.
Poet Na Tae-ju confesses with sincerity.

“This collection of poems is a collection of poems that I have cherished and kept in my heart throughout my life.
I would say these are the poems that saved me.
“How wonderful it would be if this collection of poems could reach you, save you, and become a loving companion on your life’s journey!”

To us, who break down dozens of times a day, are hurt by others' words, and sometimes even feel like strangers to ourselves, poetry quietly approaches us and speaks softly.
