Description
Book Introduction
A word from MD
Samgwa's life record on the receipt
A new work by writer Jeongshin, who records his daily life with receipts he collects every day.
It contains the story of a man who left for America one day when he was 40 years old to find his own self.
The receipts we still have are filled with the sparkling moments of that day.
It is time to encounter his unique sense of what it means to consume and sometimes waste, which conveys that everything we consume and sometimes waste is part of our lives.
May 2, 2025. Essay PD Lee Ju-eun
A record of my life, collected daily since I was 23, 25,000 receipts…
I crossed the Pacific Ocean to meet you,
A story of the mind that shook Hong Jin-kyung to her core.

“Where have you been all this time?
Who did you love and what did you eat?
How long has it been since I met someone and felt so curious about everything?
“That scary girl who is shaking me up right now.”
I will laugh because of you, because of you and
I guess it might hurt.
Hong Jin-kyung (broadcaster)

In 2004, a book with the strange title “Psychiatry and Receipt” was published.
At first glance, this book appears to be a record of a visit to a psychiatric clinic, but it has become a hot topic due to the unique sensibility of a woman named 'Jin-sin' and her ingenious way of recording her daily life by persistently collecting receipts.
Even after 20 years since its publication, the protagonist of the legendary essay, Jeongshin, who continues to be discovered by young readers on social media, and the recipient of the heartfelt friendship and letters that broadcaster Hong Jin-kyung mentioned as someone who "is shaking me up right now," has returned with a new book after 21 years.

Jeongshin, who has been collecting receipts every day since he was 23, still collects receipts today.
The number of receipts he had collected had now reached 25,000.
Jeongshin, who spent his 20s loving and being loved with a unique and eccentric sensibility, has now become 40.
I vaguely thought that in my 30s I would meet the one person in my life, get married, and have a solid life, but life in my 40s is bleak and vague.
My mind has not yet met a single person in my life, and work, family, and the surrounding environment are not easy, as if a curtain is drawn.

Then one day, after hearing advice to expand the 'radius' of the space and human relationships surrounding him, Jeongsin packs up his belongings and flies across the Pacific to America.
From the times I wept and prayed in front of American cathedrals, to the times I couldn't sleep, fighting and enduring the villains who left scars on my life, healing the poison they left behind, to the moments when I talked to and learned from countless people to meet the one person in my life, and once again found hope in people—

This book is a record of the writer's journey as he reflects on the memories he leaves behind in objects and places, buying and gifting things to those he cherishes and to himself, and it is also a story of finding light in the darkness of life.

Publisher's Review
“When I am with you, even when I think of you,
“I feel like I’m facing the light.”

There are three authors of this book.
The main character, Jeongshin, who wrote the text, the writer, Saida, who took out the old receipt of Jeongshin from the drawer and placed it on the background of the world and took a picture of it, and the designer, Gong Minseon, who spread out all these texts and pictures on the canvas of the book.
These close friends decide to record the days of their 40s, when Jungshin suddenly went out into the big world across the ocean, among the countless receipts and days he has accumulated.
The brilliant spirit of those in their 20s, who once graced countless magazines and news outlets and even served as an advisor and model for the drama "Gwangkki" starring an advertising man, is now wandering in their 40s.
Putting everything aside, the spirit flies to America to know 'himself' and to meet the one 'you' he has longed for so much.

“Is it right to go this far to find you?
It takes a lot of time and money, but a few months ago, I was thinking about it and these words came to my ear.

Is it my turn now?
“Mom, Dad, and my little brother, isn’t it my turn?” (Page 17)

In Portland, in San Francisco, he meets people, turns on online dating apps, and one day, while endlessly searching for a man who will understand him, he realizes:
That his question was wrong.
If the question is wrong, there can be no right answer.
Just as he was about to give up and decide to disappear from America, where he had been searching for such a futile answer, and return home, 'one person' appeared before him.

This book contains the journey of a woman in her 40s who bravely sets out to find herself and herself during days when her family, work, love, and self were all shaken.
A day, a life, is contained in one receipt.
The unique sensibility and sentences of the writer, which are like both poetry and song, still shine, and depth and thought have been added.

Currently, the writer Jeongshin has returned to Korea carrying several suitcases with 25,000 receipts he had collected in the United States.
The receipts of your spirit, carefully stored in envelopes year by year, and the surprising and problematic days of your spirit are waiting for you to discover them now.
Because everything we eat, buy, give, give away, consume, and sometimes waste is our life.
Because every moment we spend money on and the memories of things and places we leave behind is our life.

“I wanted to try harder once more
Let's draw the circle with a larger radius

“Let’s cross the Pacific to find you.”
