Into the book
Rome, the capital of Italy.
'ROMA' is also a kind of code that is the word 'AMOR', which means love, spelled backwards.
This love spell spread widely, starting with Princess Anne in the movie Roman Holiday, and it is not easy for us to escape the unique romanticism of Rome.
In Rome, say hello first with 'Ciao' and then express your gratitude generously with 'Grazie'.
Then you will be able to see the smiles of Italian people, more romantic and warm than anyone else.
--- From "Rome, the Immortal City"
If you only have one day to visit Rome, you absolutely must see the Colosseum.
In 72 AD, Emperor Vespasian built the largest amphitheater in Rome.
It is a vestige of ancient Rome that has remained in the same place for over 2,000 years.
Just because something has been around for a long time doesn't mean it's a landmark worth seeing.
There are other reasons too.
The massive structure, with a diameter of 188 meters, a circumference of 527 meters, and a height of 48 meters, became the foundation of modern civil engineering technology, and was the site of the comedies and tragedies of the ancient Romans.
History also moved with time.
From a center of Christian persecution to a holy site, its sturdy buildings were destroyed by successive earthquakes and reduced to a quarry.
The great writer Goethe said after seeing the Colosseum, which was only one-third of its original size.
“Do not look with your physical eyes, but with your mind’s eye.” If we follow Goethe’s words, we will be able to encounter the grand story of the Colosseum.
--- From "Colosseo"
Since the 10th century, Venice has become one of the most popular tourist destinations thanks to the generous patronage of numerous artists by Venetian nobles who have amassed enormous wealth through East-West trade.
Venice is a place filled with beauty that will completely steal the hearts of travelers, such as Piazza San Marco, the most cherished and beloved square of the Venetians, the Rialto Bridge where you can fully experience the romanticism of Venice, the dazzling ceiling mosaic of the Basilica di San Marco, and the magnificent Doge's Palace. That place is Venice.
--- From "Venice, the Romantic City on the Sea"
The Dolomites are located in the southeast of the Alps, a mountain range that runs across central Europe.
The mountainous terrain, which was formed by uplift from the sea about 200 million years ago, exhibits various topographical features such as erosion, tectonic movement, and glaciation.
In 1788, French geologist Deodat Gratet de Dolomieu discovered a mountain range of magnesium-rich limestone in the area and named it the Dolomites, after the Dolomitic Limestone.
The Dolomites are a massive mountain range made of limestone and dolomite, with 18 3,000-meter peaks rising into the sky.
As the name suggests, ‘a mineral like a white cloud,’ the milky-white Kyoho grapes are an overwhelming sight, as if they were the hot breath of God spewed into the sky.
At sunset or sunrise, the rocks turn a rosy color, creating a romantic scene.
“The Dolomites are nothing short of works of art,” said world-renowned mountaineer Reinhold Messner.
I can confidently say that if you travel to the Dolomites, you will agree with this statement.
--- From "The Dolomites, the Essence of the Italian Alps"
Florence is where the Renaissance flourished thanks to the Medici family's patronage of the arts. Even now, the alleys and squares of Florence are filled with painters, and the flowers of art are blooming everywhere.
Michelangelo, one of the three greatest Italian masters, had to stay in Rome to finish the Sistine Chapel's "Creation of Adam" and "The Last Judgment," and it is said that he missed Florence until the moment of his death.
Dante, whose hometown was Florence, was exiled from the city for political reasons. It is said that he also longed to return to Florence until the day he died, and he left traces of his longing for Florence in many of his works.
Michelangelo and Dante are not the only ones who fall into this vague, inexplicable longing for Florence.
Florence, a city loved by countless travelers.
This city will give you memories that will last a lifetime.
--- From "Florence, the final destination for lovers"
The word Duomo is derived from Domus, meaning house, and means 'house of God.'
The Duomo, found in every major Italian city, refers to the cathedral where the bishop resides.
The original name, Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, means 'Our Lady of the Flower'.
The exterior, made of white, green and pink marble from various regions, and topped with an elegant red cupola, boast a landscape more beautiful than flowers.
In 1296, Arnolfo di Cambio began building a new Duomo to boost the pride of the citizens as the Basilica of Santa Reparata, which had stood for over 900 years, was deteriorating.
It was completed in 100 years, despite war and the Black Death, but its shameful history did not end.
This is when Pope Sixtus IV and the Pazzi family, rivals of the Medici family, hatch a plot to seize control of Florence.
Lorenzo and Giuliano were attacked in the Duomo on Easter Sunday during Mass. Lorenzo barely survived, but Giuliano died.
--- From "Duomo: Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore"
Milan isn't just about fashion week.
The fertile soil is overflowing with grain, and the operas of the greatest musicians of the time ring in our ears.
Milan, a city that grew up based on the great architecture and art of Bramante and Leonardo da Vinci.
It is also home to the Duomo, the largest Gothic building in the world, Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper, and the Teatro alla Scala, where Maria Callas sang for ten years.
In this way, Milan is not only a city of fashion, but also a city of temptation that will satisfy our eyes and ears.
--- From "Milan, the Beautiful City of Design"
Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque… … .
Let's forget all the architectural styles we've seen in Italy so far.
Alberobello's traditional houses, the trulli, are the most lovable architectural style.
Houses with roofs resembling cones on white cylinders fill the low hills of Alberobello like a forest.
'ROMA' is also a kind of code that is the word 'AMOR', which means love, spelled backwards.
This love spell spread widely, starting with Princess Anne in the movie Roman Holiday, and it is not easy for us to escape the unique romanticism of Rome.
