Description
Book Introduction
“Everyone is ordinary, and everyone is special.”
We invite you to an apartment where you live with extraordinary neighbors.
It's as vivid as an animation! You can't help but get sucked in!
Lee Jong-hyuk (Producer of "The Haunted House")
Author Ahn Seong-hun, who captivated readers with his tense and captivating stories, winning the Woongjin Junior Literature Award, the Boy's Korea Daily Good Children's Book Award, and the Yes24 Children's Book Award, has returned with a new series, "Monster Apartment."
The story, which begins with the breathtaking imagination of "What if monsters transformed into humans lived next door?", stimulates readers' interest and curiosity while also providing keen insight into the present age.
Sometimes, neighbors who live close by but whose existence we don't even know about seem like monsters, so different from me or my family.
That may be why it feels even more difficult to be considerate of one another and share joy.
Children will naturally learn a sense of coexistence as they explore an apartment complex where humans and monsters coexist alongside the brave protagonist, Hong Mo-gwa.

Publisher's Review
The door to an apartment full of secrets opens!
The precarious neighborhood life of apples and monsters
Eleven-year-old Mogwa moves into a new house with her father when her mother leaves for the United States for a year due to work.
Mogwa tries her best to adapt to the lonely reality without her mother and friends who used to cry and laugh with her, but things keep going wrong.
He loses the key to his piggy bank full of memories, and to make matters worse, he messes up his self-introduction on his first day at school and becomes a laughing stock.
Mogwa, who returned home, decides to go to the neighbors' houses alone to deliver rice cakes to find out where the key is.
But this is not easy either.
He feels intimidated by a grumpy old woman who sleeps during the day and wakes up at night, and some unsettling things happen, such as rice cakes hanging on the doorknob disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Meanwhile, in this 'Soleum Apartment', there is a secret hidden that only the Mogwane family knows about.
It was an apartment complex inhabited by monsters disguised as humans! The thrilling life of the monsters and Mogwa, unaware of their existence, creates constant tension. The identities of the monsters and the apartment's secrets are gradually revealed, making viewers eagerly await the next story.
“Operation No Survival begins now.”
Children's rebellion that crosses taboos
One free Saturday, a week after moving in, Mogwa follows the sound of singing to the playground where she meets the vampire 'Theo'.
After a brief bickering, the two become friends with the commonality of wanting to return to their old home.
Theo, who has a large family, asks Mogwa for help in making his family hate Sol-eum Apartments, and the two begin their 'Operation Not to Live'.
The first operation is to create noise between floors by taking advantage of the vampire's characteristic of sleeping during the day and being active at night.
Mogwa enjoys his rare freedom by running across the rooftop to cause noise between floors at Theone's house, which is on the top floor.
However, this fails as the family blocks out the noise in their own way, and the second operation to induce nightmares also fails due to the family's uniquely positive personalities.
The third operation, using Mogwane's food full of garlic, which is deadly to vampires, finally succeeds in tormenting the family, but it is revealed that it was all Theo and Mogwane's doing.
When his family scolds Theo, his hidden truth bursts out.
Theo's cry of "No one listens to me!" represents the children who are easily ignored within their families, and the great operation of Theo and Apple to confront the adults in a childlike way by running and laughing vigorously is refreshing and transcends taboos.
“I wonder if everyone has their own circumstances inside the front door?”
A new paradigm of coexistence tailored to children of this era
The residents of the Monster Sol-eum Apartments are actually no different from our neighbors.
The vampires covered in Volume 1 are like metaphors for other people with different lifestyles.
At this time, Sol-eum Apartment's method of accepting each person's individuality as it is gives us a new perspective on coexistence.
The vampire family, Theone, says, "We live day and night interchangeably, so we have to put up with this level of noise."
This passage shows that while it is important to be careful not to inconvenience others, it is also a form of consideration to tolerate a little discomfort.
In this way, the series addresses the consideration needed in a familiar space, an apartment, and serves as a good guide that teaches children what consideration is at their eye level.
Also, the way Mogwa communicates with neighbors and actively creates its own society is impressive.
Mogwa feels lonely as she meets new people in an unfamiliar environment due to moving and transferring schools.
But we learn to accept these feelings, find courage, and relate to them.
Children will practice broadening their own world while cheering on the apples.
Fantastic illustrations complement the unique story.
The birth of a series that will make you enjoy reading along!
Author Ahn Sung-hoon's ability to create the worlds children dream of, such as a world where the roles of adults and children are reversed and a giant block world made of concrete blocks, shines through in the "Monster Apartment" series.
The author, who has always been fascinated by strange and bizarre 'monsters' since childhood, has finally brought the creatures of his imagination into reality and completed another unique story.
The fantastic illustrations by Hao added here further enhance the book's appeal.
It presents the fun of seeing various monsters through lovely drawings filled with the unique personality of artist Hao.
The "Monster Apartment" series, which features a new monster neighbor in each volume, feels like a monster encyclopedia, enough to pique anyone's interest, and even children who struggle with reading will find joy in following along with the series.
