Author Song Myeong-won, who observes and sings about children's daily lives with a warm gaze, has published a collection of poems titled "If Sang-woo Wasn't There," which deals with the relationship between siblings, based on inspiration from the author's own children.

In "If Sangwoo Wasn't There," the older sister, who has Sangwoo as her younger brother, appears as the narrator.
The temperature difference between Sangwoo, a kindergarten student who is still too young to bother his older sister by following her around, and his older sister, an elementary school student who is slowly entering puberty, provides a subtle sense of fun.

The thought, “If Sangwoo (my younger brother) hadn’t been there…”, which is also the title of the poetry collection, was probably the thought that the speaker had when he was most upset and angry.
However, as you read through the 42 pieces starting with the opening poem, “Sister,” you feel the sister’s inner self growing little by little, just like her younger sibling, and ultimately, there is a moving feeling that all the previous pieces conclude with “the days that were possible because (her younger sibling) was there.”

Looking at each work separately, the emotions felt each day are different, such as being annoyed by the younger sibling or feeling jealous of the younger sibling, but ultimately, we can say that love is the basis of the gaze that constantly watches over the younger sibling's growth by being by his side.
