New Scenes of Mural Art

Public art is not simply decoration; it is a platform where the city, people, and visual language intersect.
This issue of Public Abstractions highlights the murals and paintings of three artists who practice expanding abstraction through the concepts of tools, systems, and processes.


Based in Florida, Daev MOMO builds a non-representational sculptural language through practical geometry and experimental production methods, under the belief that “tools create new perspectives.”
Mikesian Studio (Mike & Sian) transcends the boundaries between design and art, expanding public art into a "participatory visual system" and transforming the creative experiences of local communities and citizens into visual data.
Ukrainian Andriy Kalkov, who started out in graffiti, combines geometric abstraction with digital graphics, reconstructing urban surfaces into algorithmic paintings.
The murals, paintings, tools, codes, and experimental processes of the three artists are linked under the theme of 'public abstraction', showing how design and art are creating a new order in the city today.
