We interviewed stores owned by immigrants who had been economically active in Seoul for an average of five years, left Seoul about four years ago, and opened their stores less than three years ago.
We consider the reasons for leaving Seoul, how much money they had saved before leaving, whether they had specific plans for their livelihood, how they found housing, what differed most from their expectations and what was better than what they worried about, whether there were any changes in their emotional satisfaction, whether there were any aspects of Seoul that they really liked, and whether, given the same amount of effort, they would have had more opportunities in Seoul.
