Prism of is a quarterly film magazine that contains various perspectives on a single film in each issue.

It is a compound word of Prism and Of, and it means containing the prism of movies and the prism of people who watch movies.
We aim to create a magazine with collection value by re-examining works from various angles to expand the audience's cinematic experience.


Publisher's Note
It is clear that one book cannot fully explore Chungking Express, nor the world of Wong Kar-wai and the world that emerged from it.
Because each film is a groundbreaking work by a director who creates his own unique story, the context is layered upon layer upon layer, and the local situation in Hong Kong is also changing at a rapid pace, with the accumulated amount of discussion soon to be overtaken by new history.
Issue 15, “Chungking Forest,” was one of the most difficult projects I have ever published.
Whether we look back or look ahead, the discourse that makes up Hong Kong is endless.
The path of criticism that “Chungking Express” has taken is already very solid.
So in this issue, we're going to look further ahead.
Rather than solidifying the critical foundation that "Chungking Express" has built over 25 years, I tried to build on it the perspective of a contemporary generation living in Hong Kong and loving "Chungking Express."
There are limitations to understanding the current political situation in Hong Kong solely through the work “Chungking Express.”
Conversely, viewing "Chungking Express" solely as a medium for socio-political interpretation also diminishes the film's inherent charm.
But even so, when talking about Hong Kong cinema in 2020, we cannot exclude the story of Hong Kong itself.
I hope you will also watch the real-life story tied to the work you cherish and love.
For Hong Kong, Chungking Express is still a work in progress.
