Grandpa Amos's Snowy Day
Description
Book Introduction
《Amos's Snowy Day》 is a picture book by Philip C., a representative American illustrator and married couple who write picture books.
Stead and Erin E.
This is the third story in the "Grandpa Amos" series created with Stead.
Beginning with "The Sick Day of Amos," which won the 2011 Caldecott Medal and was selected as one of Time Magazine's "Best Children's Books of All Time" and the New York Times' "Best Illustrated Books," the series, which continues with "The Day Amos Missed the Bus" and "The Snowy Day of Amos," has been published in 22 countries, including not only the English-speaking world but also France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Japan, and has long been loved by readers around the world and is considered a must-read masterpiece picture book.

This new work, "Grandpa Amos's Snowy Day," inherits the warm and affectionate worldview of the previous works, while also capturing the unique scenery and atmosphere of the winter season, as well as the unwavering friendship of Grandpa Amos's animal friends.
Moreover, Philip's beautiful yet restrained sentences and Erin's delicately textured illustrations consistently show a fantastical chemistry and captivate the reader's attention.
Additionally, the Korean translation was done by Kang Mu-hong, who is a children's book author and translator.
Having translated the entire "Grandpa Amos" series, as well as works by Maurice Sendak and Yuri Schlevitz, he has faithfully translated the meaning and message of "Grandpa Amos's Snowy Day" into Korean.

Grandpa Amos, who is so emotional that he counts the days until it snows, and his animal friends who wait with him remind us of how precious kind and affectionate relationships are in our lives.
In that sense, it can be said that it is a picture book that is perfect for the winter season, the end of the year and the New Year, when we think more about our loved ones.
Let's read it with a loved one, give it as a gift to a loved one, and fully experience the meaning contained in "Amos's Snowy Day."

Publisher's Review
■ The third story in the [Grandpa Amos] series, which has been meeting readers for a long time.
The [Grandpa Amos] series has a very special meaning for the Steads.
The first book in the series, "A Sick Day for Grandpa Amos," was the first picture book the couple worked on together, and it won the Caldecott Medal, garnering both critics' attention and readers' love.
The second story, The Day Grandpa Amos Missed the Bus, took ten years to come out.
In fact, the Steads say that "A Sick Day for Grandpa Amos" was a special book for so many readers, and they felt it was important not to publish another book that would fall short of that, and that the reason it took so long for the sequel to come out was so they could "build up enough confidence to be able to put out the next story without hesitation."
In the third story, "Amos's Snowy Day," which is being newly introduced, you can see the skills that the Stead couple, who have established themselves as representative American illustrators and picture book authors, have built up over the years.
While following the same trajectory as previous works, it shows a wider range of colors and more comfortable directing than before, and it fully captures the friendship between Grandpa Amos and his animal friends in the winter season.
This new work, which conveys the meaning of 'being with a precious person' with a gentle and quiet gaze, expands the world of warm friendship that the [Grandpa Amos] series has long shown, to a deeper and warmer extent.

■ Friends are people who wait for something they like together.
When winter comes, Grandpa Amos waits for the snow to fall.
So much so that I check the weather forecast every day.
While waiting for the snow with excitement, Grandpa knits things to give to his animal friends.
An elephant's hat, a turtle's blanket, a penguin's socks, a rhino's scarf, an owl's sweater...
Here, the grandfather's wish for his animal friends to survive the winter is reflected.
Then one day, the weather forecast finally announces that it will snow, and Grandpa Amos happily goes to work at the zoo to wait for the first snow with his animal friends.
But contrary to the forecast, it doesn't snow, and in the end, the grandfather returns home with a heavy heart.
But that night, the unexpected first snowfall falls, and the animal friends take the number 5 bus to Grandpa Amos' house.
Grandpa waits for his favorite snow, and his animal friends join him in this wait.
The desire to welcome the things you love with the things you cherish, the desire to do the things that your cherish loves together.
"Amos's Snowy Day" focuses on this warm and beautiful heart.
The small moments of waiting for each other and rejoicing together accumulate and become evidence of a deep and strong friendship.
After closing the pages of this picture book, you will naturally realize that the time spent waiting for something you like together is not loneliness, but trust and affection for each other.

■ A masterpiece that will remain as a winter picture book for a long time.
As the setting is winter, objects that give a sense of winter are scattered throughout “Amos’s Snowy Days.”
Not only things like fur hats, scarves, and gloves, but also skis ridden by a turtle, earmuffs worn by an owl, a snow shovel carried by a rhinoceros, snow angels made with penguins, and even marshmallow-floating cocoa that Grandpa Amos gives to his animal friends… … .
The winter elements that are humorously sprinkled throughout the book naturally evoke the reader's sense of the cold, refreshing air and uniquely dry atmosphere of winter.
Additionally, the characters' red noses and cheeks, their breath spreading through the air, and the snowflakes slowly falling, all depicted in detail in the illustrations, perfectly capture the emotion of winter.
In this way, “Amos’s Snowy Day” is a work that perfectly captures the atmosphere and emotions of winter.
This picture book, which allows readers to discover and feel warmth in the cold season, will become a new classic winter picture book that readers will want to read again and again, even after many years.

■ The chemistry between a couple of picture book authors that cannot be easily compared
Written by Philip C.
Stead creates a calm and profound narrative with a prose that possesses a simple power, and the illustrations by Erin E.
Stead added a warm breath to the narrative.
In addition, we took great care to ensure that each and every one of the supporting characters, such as small birds, mice, giraffes, raccoons, and monkeys, who do not appear in the text but appear significantly in the illustrations, are brought to our attention.
"Amos's Snowy Day" is a work that once again confirms the fantastic chemistry of the Stead couple, who have filled in each other's gaps and developed each other's strengths through long-term collaboration and close communication.

Stead's words

Grandpa Amos's world is very calm and predictable.
I don't try to speak loudly to convey something to the reader beyond the story.
We invite readers to enter that world first.
And I think this is one of the reasons why the [Grandpa Amos] series has been loved for so long.

Illustrator Erin E.
Stead's words

I thought about this while drawing Grandpa Amos and his animal friends again.
“It feels like I’m back home,” he said.
I'm truly thrilled to be able to continue introducing the Grandpa Amos series to new young readers for 15 years.
