Thinking about soccer
Description
Book Introduction
All perfection begins with a foundation.
For youth players, amateurs and everyone who loves soccer

Soccer, one of the most popular sports in the world, is also receiving a lot of attention in South Korea.
It's not just about seeing.
A large number of people, regardless of gender, from children to adults, are running around the ground.
However, if you want to play soccer yourself, it is not easy to find good information about everything from basic posture to training methods.
Unless you pay for private lessons, it's difficult to get quality training.
Accordingly, players who have been running on the ground for a long time and learned and experienced firsthand have stepped forward.
The book provides information on the basic movements of various soccer skills and how to train them, based on past experiences.

Striker-Midfielder-Defender-Goalkeeper
The fundamentals of soccer taught by positional experts!

Football shines when each position plays to its best advantage.
The team's victory can be achieved through that process.
However, when you actually learn soccer, it is not easy to understand and master the characteristics of each position.
In the book, the authors, who have extensive experience in four positions - attacker, midfielder, defender, and goalkeeper - provide information about soccer based on their own experiences.
As you learn the characteristics of different positions, not only will you enjoy playing soccer, but you will also enjoy watching it more.

Into the book
I don't think you can learn soccer from a book.
However, I wrote it with the intention of giving advice to my juniors or young players about the basics of soccer.
Especially in the midst of the flood of information about soccer these days, I wanted to share my experiences gained through my career as a player to understand what is truly important.
_Lee Dong-guk
--- From the "Prologue"

The important thing is to train yourself to judge whether to pass the ball to your teammate's left foot or right foot depending on the position of the opposing defense.
If you pass the ball to the opponent who is preparing to steal the ball, the pass will be easily intercepted.
Passing to the foot farthest from the opposing defense reduces the chances of losing the ball.
Once you've completed basic training, you need to practice passing the ball by looking at your opponent's knees and feet.
--- From "Pass"

If I continue to practice consistently, I can practice all the techniques I've been preparing without making any mistakes in a wide stadium.
It is also a shortcut to run further and faster than anyone else.
Strengthening exercises can help prevent injuries and help you recover faster if you do get injured.
If you want to be an athlete and stay healthy for a long time, this is the most important exercise you can do.

--- From "Reinforcement Exercise"

In the basic position, I always tell people to slightly engage their front heels and thighs above their knees.
This is one way to keep your center of gravity well.
By applying a little force to the front heel and the thigh above the knee, the center of gravity will naturally move forward.
Rather than having the center of gravity straight or backward, it should be slightly forward so that you can react quickly when the ball comes.
When moving, you should move with equal strength in the front heel and the thigh just above the knee.
--- From "Detailed Goalkeeper Basic Posture"

As a striker, you must experience the scenes in front of the goal more than anything else.
Even if you're not looking at the goal, you need to learn to know where you are on the field and how to kick the ball into the goal.
… … You have to understand that just because a player scores the most goals doesn’t mean he is the best at soccer.
If you want to play soccer, you must fundamentally recognize the team.
Beyond dreaming of becoming a flashy striker, ultimately, you want to become a good soccer player.
(Attacker - Lee Dong-gook)

On a soccer field, control of the game depends on how three-dimensionally you understand the space.
Ultimately, the players who survive are those with good situational awareness, positioning, and spatial understanding.
Once you've found a favorable space, you need to be in a position to shake off the defense in advance so you can exploit it.
Ultimately, occupying a good space begins with identifying and selecting the best location.
Soccer would be easier and more fun if you could freely attack various spaces on your way to the opponent's goal and score quickly and easily.
(Midfielder - Jeong Hoon)

You have to think that every game and every training session is about making you who you are.
If you do your training roughly today, you will do your best in the game too.
Remember, it's the small, repetitive things that make a really good defender.
You have to understand that defense is about reading the situation and the people.
You have to train while thinking about where your opponent will go and where the ball will flow.
Instead of just chasing the ball, you need to develop an eye for reading your opponent's movements.
Also, remember that defense is about holding on for the team.
If he can do that, he's already on his way to becoming a good defender.
(Defender-Lee Yong)

Soccer is a game where you can win easily if the field players are good, but there are also times when you have to play a difficult game.
In such times, the goalkeeper becomes the leader and takes on a difficult role.
So, from the start of the game until the final whistle blows, you must not lose focus even for a moment.
It's not an easy position, but if you have the experience of preventing a goal in a crisis and contributing to the team's victory, it will be difficult to break away from the allure of being a goalkeeper.
(Goalkeeper - Hong Jeong-nam)
--- From "Practical Advice by Position"

It contains the basics that beginners to soccer must know.
If you dream of becoming a soccer player but can't afford to take lessons, or if you have a lot of questions but can't get one-on-one guidance from your team, I hope this book will serve as a small guide.
(Jeonghoon)

Rather than giving up or being scared in advance because you are a little slower or a little smaller than others, I want to tell you to find something you like and are good at.
I hope this book can play that role.
I hope this can be a small support to those who enjoy soccer and those who are playing soccer.
(utilization)

Even with such improved infrastructure, I've seen that there are almost no youth goalkeeper coaches nationwide.
It was a pity.
I hope this book will serve as an opportunity to inform more people about the role and fundamentals of a goalkeeper.
I look forward to experiencing new rewards.
(Hong Jeong-nam)
--- From "Epilogue"

Publisher's Review
“You learn soccer from a book?”

'How to learn soccer from a book.' This is the first thought that came to author Lee Dong-guk's mind when he received the book proposal.
But after meeting countless youth soccer players from around the country and seeing the energy of the women's amateur futsal team, I began to have a slightly different perspective.
I decided to compile it into a book to teach my juniors about the fundamentals and what is really important in soccer.
The book explains the basic soccer stance and introduces the authors' experiences on why these movements are necessary and how to train them.
It also tells us what is fundamentally important and timeless in the midst of the overwhelming amount of information about football.

From basic postures such as ball control, passing, and shooting
Practical advice for each position: attacker, midfielder, defender, and goalkeeper.

Soccer is a sport in which players in various positions play together.
Each person has a different role to play.
In order to play good soccer, understanding the characteristics of each position is essential.
In the book, players who have played as attackers, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers for a long time become authors and introduce the fundamentals and training methods they learned and practiced in their respective positions.

From basic posture to why good ball control is important, and how to pass, kick, and shoot well, we've organized this in detail based on the language used on the field, along with photos that demonstrate it firsthand.
In addition, in the practical advice section for each position, he introduces what is needed to become a good player in each position and how to train based on his own experience.

Our infrastructure without a goalkeeper coach
Learn goalkeeping in detail from a coach who was a player!

One of the unique features of this book is that it also provides detailed information on the goalkeeper, a special position in soccer.
There are numerous youth soccer teams across the country, and club soccer, including futsal, is active, but it is very rare to find a team with a dedicated goalkeeper coach.
The book provides detailed information, with photos, on the basic stance of a goalkeeper, how stances change depending on distance, and the fundamentals of goalkeeping.
It will be a great help to many people who are playing goalkeeper.

Soccer is more fun when you know what you're playing!
Soccer is more fun when you know how the players move!

People who play soccer will be able to gain a deeper understanding and broader perspective on soccer through this book.
Wouldn't that allow you to enjoy soccer more deeply?
As you turn the pages of the book, the fun of watching soccer becomes more diverse.
It becomes clearer why they pass like that, why the goalkeeper was in that position, and what the characteristics of this team are.
In the end, the enjoyment of watching soccer will increase.
