Description
Book Introduction
A true minimalist is someone who is free from attachments.

Physical lightness is just the beginning.

A minimalist's praise for a minimalist life that goes beyond outward simplicity and empties the mind.
Through three years of downsizing, the author discovered that true minimalism is a powerful lifestyle tool that goes beyond appearances and reaches the essence of happiness.
Compared to the past, where satisfaction was gained through recognition from others and excessive consumption, the minimalist life changed my perspective to 'growth, not success' and 'true happiness, not happiness from being evaluated.'
The author, who has tried everything for his own happiness, is convinced that minimalism has been the most effective.
Moreover, minimalism has communal significance in that it contributes to my own happiness while also serving as a link that brightens society.

People often introduce minimalist living with photos of sensual and immaculately perfect interiors, but the book "Living Small" doesn't have a single photo.
If a person has a life that is essential to his or her life, even if the colors are somewhat tacky and lack a sense of unity, he or she is clearly a minimalist.
If it is valuable to you, you don't judge it by the amount of possessions you have.
Furthermore, it is said that a truly minimalist life is one that does not limit itself to the spatial realm, but expands to all areas related to 'myself', including time, relationships, work, information, money, energy, and digital detox, and focuses on the essence by removing unnecessary things.

A true minimalist is not judged by the number of possessions they have.
A true minimalist is someone who is free from attachments.
Physical lightness is just the beginning.

Concluding remarks

Into the book
I like lack, I like deficiency.
Being alone, being empty, all seem like a lack at first glance.
It is a state of lack, the opposite of abundance.
But I believe that lack is true peace, and the ideal that makes me truly happy.

--- p.35

It's not easy to be happy every day, but if I live my life fully enjoying the time given to me, I suddenly feel happy.
Slowing down the pace of life sometimes means going against the flow of daily life.

--- p.21

It's no secret that the Internet is always connected.
Always being online is a shortcut to enslaving yourself.
We also have the freedom not to connect.

--- p.42

Cell phones also go into sleep mode after 10 p.m.
Since I don't use a separate alarm, it's useless while I'm sleeping anyway.
It is my intentional effort to buy time to live in the real world.
There is not enough time in the day to meet people, exercise, read books, write, take walks, listen to music, and do housework.
By distancing yourself from the online world and practicing digital fasting, you can clear your head and be stress-free.
There is no urgency or impatience.

--- p.41

To maximize profits, companies lower and lower the prices of their products by prioritizing price competitiveness.
Is that cheapness free? Someone pays the price, unseen.
Polar bears drowning in melting ice, boys and girls dropping out of school to mine coal, and turtles with blocked airways from eating plastic pay the price.
It is a sacrifice that our descendants will have to make when they go out and wear masks and pay a lot of money for drinking water.
It's not hard to think and ask questions before buying or throwing away something.

--- p.31

For me, living as long as I can is the right minimalism.
When discomfort brings peace and freedom, we endure the discomfort and enjoy the lack.
When discomfort leads to stress and fatigue, then we buy things.

--- p.60

Organizing doesn't require any skills.
If you remember the one rule that everything has its place and you always put things back where they belong, your home will never be messy.
The basis of all organization is ‘emptying’ and its beginning is ‘abandonment’.

--- p.47

Most people are interested in keeping their homes clean and beautiful, but they don't give much thought to how to permanently and thoroughly care for the inside of their homes.
The more you consume, the more difficult it becomes to maintain your space.
When faced with this situation, most people have two choices.
Either increase the size of your home or get rid of things.
But the option of not consuming is not even considered.

--- p.53

Things that cannot be easily disposed of become a burden in our lives and hinder our freedom in the future.
There is no stress or burden in owning only those things that you can dispose of and let go of whenever you want.
Nothing can restrain my freedom.

--- p.67

The ability to capture the essence is, without a doubt, the greatest gift I have ever received.
If you can discern the essential from the superfluous, the complexity of life becomes simple in an instant.
In my pursuit of essence, I have gained profound insight into everything from objects to relationships, learning, growth, and perspectives on conflict.

--- p.120

When you become a minimalist, your life becomes full of energy every day.
Because everything is too easy.
Having a productive day, waking up refreshed, choosing and dressing stress-free, and having the tenacity to slowly but steadily achieve your goals—all of this is possible because the weight of possessions remains within my control.
