“I work hard every day to keep a record, but why don’t I see any results?”
Professor Kim Ik-han, Korea's first archivist and bestselling author, has dedicated himself to the field of archiving for the past 25 years and has been more diligent than anyone else in spreading the importance and methods of archiving, yet he still receives questions like this.
People with a desire for growth buy diaries and notebooks each year with the intention of becoming 'record-oriented people' and try to develop the habit of diligently writing things down, but they suffer because it doesn't go well.
Possible is a book that teaches you how to keep track of your daily activities to achieve results.
If you have a dream or goal, this book contains strategies to make that possibility a reality through daily records.
In his book, Professor Kim Ik-han systematically explains how to record daily life by day, week, and month.
This book will serve as a guide for those who have been writing without thinking because they did not know how to use records as a tool for thinking, or who have been hesitating because they did not know where or how to start recording.
“Only daily records can turn today’s experiences into tomorrow’s knowledge.” This is why Professor Kim Ik-han emphasizes daily records.
The daily records presented in 『Possible』 are easy and simple.
If you have a place to sit, definitely spread out your notebook.
If you spend 10 minutes a day checking yourself through your daily records and experiencing the growth of your thoughts, you will discover that you have changed from yesterday and have transformed into the person you want to be.

Into the book
True journalism is the process of finding your dreams and transforming your life.
In other words, it is a realistic task that awakens the potential within me that I have not yet discovered, allowing me to achieve my goals and gain happiness.
Records based on thoughts and actions make dreams come true.
By starting to capture and articulate my flowing thoughts and emotions, I begin to know exactly what I want and what I am good at, and in the process, I accumulate the ability to realize my latent potential.
This is the magical power of records that I want to convey to many people.
--- p.8, from "Prologue"
“Professor, my day is a series of identical repetitions from yesterday. Is it meaningful to keep a daily record?”
This is a question I often get asked whenever I lecture on the importance of keeping a daily journal.
right.
The daily life of an office worker is a series of repetitions.
Many office workers barely manage to wake up in the morning, take the suffocating subway to work, frantically work, and then collapse in exhaustion when they return home.
What about housewives?
Starting with a morning that feels like war, and completing repetitive tasks that are not much different, the day ends before you know it.
It's only natural that you're at a loss as to what to write about when you're asked to record your daily life in a schedule where the only difference is the date.
But paradoxically, as I write down my daily records, the ordinary days that are no different from yesterday come to me a little differently.
As I look around, wondering what to record, I realize that the scenery of my repetitive commute to and from work, the conversations I have with the people I meet, my attitude during meetings, and the mindset I have when I greet my child when he or she comes home from school are all subtly different.
In this way, daily records give meaning to ordinary days, allowing us to experience a creative life that makes a difference through repetition.
--- p.43~44, from “Discover the difference between yesterday and today through daily records”
The magical change I've experienced while living a life of record-keeping is that I've come to solve most of the problems I face in my daily life just by keeping a journal.
Especially after writing down my daily life, I am hardly ever affected by emotional issues like anger or sadness.
You can literally control your emotions.
This is not a special ability.
If you're feeling irritated or angry and can't stand it, instead of repeatedly saying, "Oh, I'm so annoyed!", try calmly writing down the background of the situation and your emotions.
Of course, it doesn't work well from the start.
However, if you keep trying, at some point the true nature of the irritation will be revealed, the cause will become clear, and a concrete solution will come to mind.
Most people say they don't have time to think deeply about the everyday sensations and emotions they experienced today.
However, if I record my feelings and emotions in detail, express them descriptively, and bring them to the present, I can discover the source of suppressed emotions such as anger or irritation that I feel for no reason.
Catharsis, as Aristotle said, is the release of pent-up emotions to purify the mind and find peace.
So, with just one page of daily journaling, I can become the master of my own life.
True self-care is possible when we realize that no one but ourselves can love and cherish ourselves.
Not only do I not allow myself to be manipulated by others, I also become aware that I must not hurt others with my desires and emotions.
There is no more powerful strategy for managing your life than daily journaling.
--- p.58~59, from “Discover the difference between yesterday and today through daily records”
One of the great things about keeping a monthly diary is that it allows you to reflect on your life on a monthly basis.
Usually, it's not until the end of the year or the beginning of the new year that I have time to look back on my life.
You can never change your life with a reflection like this once a year.
On the other hand, if you keep a monthly diary, you will have time to seriously look back on your life at least once a month.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to self-reflect at least twelve times a year, which will help you to more clearly define your life's direction.
Reflecting on my life each month means reviewing the past month based on fairly vivid memories.
As you recall these vivid memories one by one, even the hazy past days will eventually come back to life, allowing you to properly reflect on the past and make accurate choices about what to discard and what to keep.
If you keep a monthly diary for just three months, the first thing you will notice is that your body is changing.
What if you repeat this 12 times over the course of a year? You'll be on the cusp of a life-changing starting point, and if you continue for three years, you'll be transformed.
You will find yourself growing amazingly.
If you keep a diary of your daily life, a bright energy will permeate your entire life.
Not only will your attitude and habits towards daily life change completely, but your level of strategy will also change.
Ultimately, you experience a magical transformation that transforms you into a person who constantly thinks about the purpose and direction of life.
--- p.70~71, from “12 Reflections That Changed My Life”
How many things in life do I actively pursue and feel fulfilled by? Most of the time, we're swayed by time, people, and circumstances as we go about our daily lives.
If I live as my persona and not as myself, then I am living only with my body, without my thoughts functioning.
Of course, there are times when thoughts are at work while we think, judge, and choose from moment to moment, but these may not be our complete thoughts.
In other words, we may be responding to life only with our bodies.
Keeping a daily journal is the most fundamental strategy for living with your head and heart, not your body.
If you are not familiar with daily records, let's start with 'writing one line'.
In fact, it is not easy to write a diary every day.
It's hard to remember your day and write it down in a narrative structure.
However, it is not difficult to keep a daily record that summarizes the time and actions in one line.
To make this a part of your life, you just need to make these three principles a habit.
First, write immediately after the action is finished.
Second, I always write when I sit down.
Third, if you remember something you didn't write before lunch or before going to bed, write it down.
If you just remember these three things, you can keep good records of your daily life.
This is effective even if you do it properly for just 3 days.
As I become able to recall my day as if I were watching a movie through my daily records, I try to make proactive decisions in everything, knowing that my day is more precious and that I am the main character in that daily life.
--- p.196~197, from “Miracle Morning Completed with Daily Records and Idea Records”
“Reviewing a victorious nation creates a habit of winning, and reviewing a defeated nation creates preparation for winning.” This saying by Cho Hoon-hyun, the noodle master, applies directly to our daily lives.
If your thinking ability expands like that of a Go player, you can recall in detail the reasons for the choices you made at any point in the past.
But even if you don't have that level of thinking ability, if you rely on records, your thinking ability will increase, and it is possible to remember that moment like a baduk player's review.
This is because recording daily routines is an act of review.
It becomes the history of my life and serves as a foundation for new challenges and choices.
I think the phrase 'shake hands at the end of a long story' means that instead of thinking in retrospect, you only consider various variables and end up making a decision based on emotions rather than reason.
No matter how much thought and agonizing I put into making a decision, if it is not based on an 'As-Is, To-Be' analysis or a choice based on past failures, it is another handshake.
However, if you keep a daily record, you can have an experience similar to that of a Go player reviewing a game.
You can resolve emotional distress through rational resolution and find your own answers on how to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
The interpretive past becomes the soil of the future.
If you keep a daily journal where you record and reflect on your daily life, the past day will become wisdom for life, you will be able to pat yourself on the back for your hard work, and you will naturally feel hopeful for tomorrow.

Publisher's Review
“If you write it down, you can discover the possibilities of life!”
South Korea's first archivist talks about the surprising power of self-growth through daily records.
There are people who stop growing at some point in their lives.
I live honestly, but I keep repeating the same mistakes and failures, and luck doesn't seem to be on my side compared to my efforts.
If you are working hard but are never able to live as the master of your own life, you should check whether the direction of your efforts is wrong.
Professor Kim Ik-han, Korea's first archivist and best-selling author of "The Giant's Notes," says that to live as the master of one's own life with unique insights, one must record one's daily life.
Recording is the process of capturing and making explicit one's thoughts and feelings that flow like water.
By keeping a record, I can know exactly what I want and what I'm good at, make a concrete plan for what to do, and naturally make my dreams and goals a reality through the process of putting them into practice.
Professor Kim Ik-han's latest book, "Possible," is a practical guide that teaches us how to use daily records as a strategic tool to achieve our dreams.
It teaches you how to record your daily life and suggests ways to make records central to your life.
In fact, many people buy diaries to strengthen their resolve as the New Year approaches, but give up on keeping records before half a year has even passed.
It is a failure to normalize the routine of recording.
The author says that these people are 'lazy in thought', and when you are lazy in thought, you cannot find what to write because you do not have anything you want to write about.
To make recording a daily routine, you need to look into your emotions as they change from moment to moment throughout the day without missing them.
Daily records give meaning to ordinary days, allowing us to experience a creative life and inner growth that makes a difference through repetition.
Only those who have experienced the difference through records and realized the essence of records that lead to growth can continue to write.
Keeping records is not something that requires innate talent.
If you feel the joy of growth through a virtuous cycle of recording and thinking, recording will naturally become a part of your daily life.
Here's why you need to start journaling right now.
“Become the master of your life with monthly records!”
A practical guide to changing your life with a 30-day daily journal.
Professor Kim Ik-han suggests 'monthly records' as an effective way to make recording routine.
Most people use an annual diary to note important events.
However, it is realistically impossible to have complete control over a period of one year, imagine a dream, set goals linked to that dream, and execute accordingly.
This is because dreams that last for one year only remain in the head and are not directly connected to execution.
So, it is natural that it is difficult to finish writing an annual diary.
In that sense, recording on a monthly basis makes it easy to make plans and put them into action because it clearly shows 'what I will be like a month from now.'
Especially, 'reflection on life', which was previously only possible at the end of the year, is now possible on a monthly basis, giving you the opportunity to look back on yourself and make new resolutions 12 times a year.
This is why recording on a monthly basis can help you more clearly articulate your life's direction.
In Part 1, 『Possible』 introduces the importance and methods of recording daily life, and explains why you should record your daily life on a monthly basis.
Part 2 covers how we should view a month, a week, and a day, and the different properties of each plan.
Additionally, it includes a '30-Day Daily Record Workbook' to show how to make recording a part of daily life, and allows readers to write their own daily records.
Part 3 specifically shows the changes in life brought about by daily records.
When daily records become a part of your life, your life changes into a strategic, immersive, choice-driven, organized, and cool trust type.
These five types of life are the lifestyles we all desire.
Professor Kim Ik-han emphasizes that “true recording is the process of finding a dream and changing one’s life.”
By following the daily record-keeping method he suggests, you can discover the differences between yesterday and today, find new possibilities for yourself within them, and establish a life strategy.
“It’s not too late.
“Unleash the potential of your life with daily records!”
Includes a "30-Day Daily Record Workbook" that turns your dreams into reality in just 10 minutes a day.
“Just because you diligently write things down doesn’t mean everything will be solved.” This is what Professor Kim Ik-han often says to those who diligently write things down in order to become document-oriented people.
He criticizes that haphazard writing is nothing more than scribbling, and asserts that both 'thinking' and 'action' are essential for my efforts to lead to meaningful growth.
For example, if you write down a to-do list every morning but don't actually do it and end up forgetting it, or if you study hard and take notes but get lost in your thoughts and can't internalize them, or if you only focus on summarizing the plot when reading a book or watching a movie, then those records are meaningless.
For those who want to keep a daily record of their thoughts and actions, Possible has prepared a '30-Day Daily Record Workbook' page where readers can write their own daily records along with examples from the author.
It immediately resolves questions about how to record your daily life for a month, such as 'How should I arrange my dreams in my monthly plan?', 'What should I consider most when setting priorities for the week?', 'What should be the standard for determining the key points of the week?', and 'How should I take note of inspiring conversations?', while vividly experiencing the process of the future I imagine being connected to my monthly goals, strategized on a weekly basis, and put into practice with daily sincerity.
At first glance, recording your daily life may seem like a hassle and time-consuming process, but 10 minutes a day is all you need.
Professor Kim Ik-han advises that if you have a place to sit, you should always open your diary.
That is the starting point of becoming a record-keeping human.
The greatness of records lies in the small things.
Don't just pass over what you saw today. Just writing a one-line review begins a conversation with yourself.
A single line I wrote today awakened a potential within me that I had not discovered before.
That is the 'possible' that Professor Kim Ik-han is talking about in this book.
