Teacher's Mind Study
Description
Book Introduction
When teachers are happy, children thrive! We talk about a paradigm shift in education for children who will thrive in the future.
What kind of mindset should teachers and parents have when looking after their students? Only when teachers and parents feel at ease can children grow up healthy.
This book, “The Teacher’s Mind Study,” is a compilation of conversations held between Venerable Pomnyun and teachers during meetings held at schools.
Teachers honestly shared the difficulties they face at school, and the contents of their earnest discussions with Venerable Pomnyun on how to solve them were summarized.
As the teachers talked with Venerable Pomnyun, they empathized with him and came closer to solving the problem and finding healing in their hearts.
The series, "Books That Change Your Life Little by Little," by Venerable Pomnyun, presents solutions to various phenomena and problems in human society through the teachings of Buddha.
『Books that Change Your Life Little by Little』 plans to continue publishing on various topics.

Into the book
Children are in the process of learning now.
Being in the process means being unfinished, and the process toward completion is bound to have all sorts of twists and turns.
You are socially given the role of taking good care of such children, cutting off what is lacking and filling in what is lacking.
In times like these, your mindset is very important.
--- p.26
In this way, children must be cared for unconditionally when they are young, and when they reach puberty, they must be made independent.
We need to give children the opportunity to make mistakes.
--- p.29
By studying which of your child's problems are his or her own, which come from his or her mother, which from his or her father, and which from family discord, you can become an expert in this field.
So it's a good thing to have one or two problem children in a class.
It's work.
This is the kind of attitude we need to have when approaching research.
--- p.35
Be prepared and teach as best you can, but be comfortable that you might not know.
Feeling burdened comes from wanting to be evaluated on something other than your abilities.
I teach as much as I can, and I think it's up to them to evaluate.
If I keep trying to make the other person's evaluation match my intentions, I will become miserable.
--- p.43
This is what most parents with children do.
Don't you want to do everything you can for your child? They've simply developed that habit, so you can't blame them.
--- p.67
The current type of evaluation that involves going to an academy, memorizing, and calculating to get good grades may be valid for about 10 years, but it is almost at the end of its lifespan.
We are entering a whole new era.
What matters is not how much a child memorizes, but what problem-solving skills he or she has.
--- p.79
First, we must practice to become happy and peaceful ourselves. Only when teachers are happy and peaceful can they properly fulfill their role as teachers and teach children what happiness is.

Publisher's Review
Venerable Pomnyun talks about the hearts of teachers and children.
"Teacher's Mind Study" is published, filled with insights into the essence of youth and education issues, along with teacher-centered mindfulness techniques and support!
Just as it would be meaningless to advise about modern education based on past exam experiences, it would also be meaningless to advise about future education based on the educational system of the past.
First, we must practice to become happy and peaceful ourselves. Only when teachers are happy and peaceful can they properly fulfill their role as teachers and teach children what happiness is.
Rather than teaching in a lecture-like manner, children learn naturally from the teacher's life.

〉〉 To live happily as a teacher, self-cultivation and mindfulness are necessary.
First, it is absolutely necessary for yourself and second, for your children.
If you listen to teachers' honest thoughts, you will find that they surprisingly feel a lot of pressure about teaching and classes.
We must prepare thoroughly with a generous heart, but we must know that the role of a teacher is not to teach well, not to impart knowledge, but to guide children toward knowledge.
〉〉 But will the methods of teachers and parents who received traditional education truly be helpful to children who will face the future? The current educational and evaluation methods are nearing their end, and they are transitioning into an era where they will no longer be effective in just 10 years.
This is because we are moving into an era where problem-solving skills and creativity are of the utmost importance.
Even children who are struggling to keep up with the changing times and school education can become more indispensable talents in the new era.
This means that even children who are full of worries and problems when viewed only through the lens of traditional education can become leading figures in the new era.
〉〉Children are in the process of learning and are incomplete beings, so their trial and error should be acknowledged.
Teachers are socially given the role of guiding such children, filling in what they lack, and smoothing out what is rough.
The starting point for youth and education issues is to guide our children, who have the right to make their own paths in life through trial and error as they grow up.
〉〉Although this book is not enough to contain all the conversations between Venerable Pomnyun and the teachers, I hope that it will be of some help to teachers at schools and parents raising children.
