The joy of finding rest
Description
Book Introduction
“Don’t miss today’s break
Making some loving time for myself.
And to feel the joy of getting to know me.”
The more people try to cultivate their lives, the more likely they are to burn out.
When you're busy chasing your goals and trying to stay true to your roles, it's easy for self-care to fall down the priority list.
Only when we are out of breath do we realize that what we have been missing is 'rest'.
At this very moment, there is a book that reminds us of the meaning of rest.
《The Joy of Finding Rest》 teaches us how to take care of ourselves, adjust the pace of life, and discover a new self through moments of stopping.
Author Bo-ra Yoo, CEO of the self-care platform 'Life Coloring', is also someone who has a stronger passion for growth and desire for recognition than anyone else.
But in the process, I put off taking care of myself, and eventually suffered from a burnout crisis.
After leaving his job, he took some time to reflect on his life, and that experience led him to embark on the path of becoming a relaxation expert.
This book is filled with the author's insights into rest and how to enrich life in his own way.

Into the book
We always hesitate before taking a break.
We are burdened by the feeling that we have to live busier and more leisurely, but in reality,
What I needed was the relief of being able to stop for a moment.
It's not that I forgot how to rest, it's that I was waiting for permission to rest.
This book gives you that permission.
We want to join you on your journey to find relaxation, the way you want, at the pace you like.
And in the process, you will realize:
Rest is not just a simple pause, but a journey to find the pace at which your life truly desires.
--- From the "Prologue"
Many people think of rest as a state of doing nothing.
But proper rest is not simply stopping.
Ohi
It's more like changing the way I use my time.
Think of a holiday without any special plans.
We often lie down in the most comfortable position, fiddling with our smartphones, or filling our time with new but meaningless stimuli.
Things come to mind that I need to do, but I don't have the strength to actually do them, so I let time pass by with a heavy heart.
If we look at a lot of what we believe to be rest, we often find that it is not actually time for proper recovery.
--- From Chapter 1, "The Age of Being Afraid of Getting a Good Rest"
While efficiency brings convenience and benefits, it also has a clear dark side.
The beauty of the street trees in front of the crosswalk that I missed while running in a hurry, the romance and joy of board games that I forgot while focusing on winning, and the excitement of new alleys that I could only discover by getting lost make me miss out on the various sensations and emotions that I could have enjoyed at that moment.
You can't live romantically all the time, but on the other hand, you can't live your whole time pursuing efficiency either.
The important thing is to be able to distinguish between situations that should be efficient and situations that should be left as inefficient.
Some things should be left to flow slowly, some things should be left to get lost, and some things should be left to enjoy the process of going back and willingly suffer losses.
--- From Chapter 2, "Rest on Weekdays - Not Just Waiting for the Weekend"
Among them, his favorite animal is definitely the turtle (the species that can be seen most often in rivers in our country are not turtles but male turtles, but they are usually just called turtles).
In the spring, when turtles are active, we often go on 'turtle exploration' activities.
We mainly go on expeditions to the estuary where the Hongjecheon Stream and the Han River meet, because we can see turtles that have just woken up from hibernation sunbathing on rocks near the river or swimming in groups.
If you see a mother turtle and baby turtle swimming together, it is your lucky day.
I'm still not good at swimming
If you see a turtle trying to climb onto its mother turtle's back or slipping off its shell after several attempts, it is a day of great luck.
--- From Chapter 3, “Weekend Break_Time to Practice Making Decisions About My Life”
Even if I couldn't live like this every day, how would my daily life change if I made time for this just once a month? How vibrant would my life become if I could gradually increase the time I could smile like a child instead of being serious and solemn? If, instead of deepening my wrinkles over seemingly insignificant things, I could honestly express joy, regret, and even be quirky, how much more fulfilled would my life be?
Play gives me freedom.
Just being myself, without worrying about the future or being anxious about my current state.
It has the power to make things exist.
So I want to create more time for idle play in my life.
I feel a deep sense of freedom in a time where I don't care what happens and I don't have to achieve anything.
This freedom tells me that it's okay for me to just be myself.
--- From Chapter 3, “Weekend Rest_Time to Practice Making Decisions in My Life”
In an interview, I was once asked, “What is a good break?”
It's hard to categorize rest as good or bad, but if you think about the moments when I felt well rested, it's usually when I felt like I was being pampered.
When I feel like I'm being taken care of and cared for, even the smallest things make me feel good.
So I answered, “Getting a good night’s sleep means treating myself well.”
--- From Chapter 4, 'A Break for a Break_Don't Pretend You Don't Know I'm Tired'
When I arrived at the scene, I was more nervous than usual.
I started the class with a trembling heart, listening to the participants' self-introductions.
It didn't take long for me to realize that my worries were unfounded.
Participants participated in the workshop for a variety of reasons, but there was a common motivation.
I feel like I rest in the same way every time, so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. I was curious about how other people rest.
I saw his eyes sparkle as he asked me how to really get a good rest.
I've always thought that when I get older, I'll know myself to some extent and won't have many questions anymore.
It was a shameful and narrow-minded misunderstanding.
Age is not a factor in becoming inflexible, losing the passion for learning, or confining ourselves to the fences of our own country.
Anyone can find themselves in that situation at any time.
--- From Chapter 5, 'A Break for a Leap_A Break to Grow Me Further'
Rest gave me a solid foundation.
The fact that I have my own foundation to return to whenever I feel unsettled in my work and relationships.
This was solid.
The confidence that I can create space for myself even when life gets bumpy, and that no hardship will be my entire life.
Rest was the ground for practicing the power of life's decisions.

Publisher's Review
“Rest, not just a simple pause,
“The joy of caring for myself and enriching my life”
We are so used to running around busy and achieving our goals that we often forget to take time to take care of ourselves.
When we run without stopping and suddenly lose the pace of life and fatigue builds up, we realize:
That it is the time of rest and self-care that gives me the strength to live my life according to my own will, rather than being dragged along by the demands of the world.
"The Joy of Finding Rest" conveys the joy of reflecting on life through rest and finding one's inner voice in the midst of a tiring daily life.
Author Yoo Bo-ra emphasizes that rest is not simply a time for recovery or leisure.
Rest is a tender time to care for and cherish myself in the midst of life, and it conveys the process of listening to my inner voice and adjusting the pace of life.
The author also experienced burnout due to his passion for growth.
The author's discovery of a previously unknown self through rest leads to concrete practices that enrich life beyond simple rest.
I will take care of myself today through rest.
The book presents specific methods for checking one's condition as the first step to rest.
This allows the reader to sense the signals of their own body and mind.
Beyond these questions, you can also find ways to create space in your daily routine, find pure joy without purpose, and find time to ask yourself what you need most through the Relaxation Counseling Center.
· Are you sitting with a forward head posture right now?
· Have you been engrossed in something for hours without drinking water?
· Are you continuing to work without feeling a headache or a hot head?
· Are you blaming yourself for your anxiety?
These questions serve as a starting point for clearly understanding your own condition and taking necessary actions.
The moment you notice the small signals from your body and mind and respond appropriately, you have a time to connect deeply with yourself.
Rest ultimately becomes the most loving choice to understand and care for the present me.
Small and precious joys found in rest
This book compellingly demonstrates the small and precious joys that rest brings.
Taking quiet time for yourself while brewing your favorite tea, feeling the changing seasons while looking out the window, or experiencing the sounds of nature during a short walk—these are simple, everyday actions that leave a deep impression on our lives.
For example, going on a small expedition to a river to observe turtles, or relaxing your body while listening to binaural beats that give you the feeling of floating on the water.
This shows that the kind of rest that suits you can be so diverse.
Through this book, we can break free from the limited image of rest and find sparkling inspiration to find the rest that suits us.
This book covers every moment of relaxation.
'Relaxation for Weekdays' suggests practical ways to recharge in short moments even in the midst of a busy daily life, while 'Relaxation for Weekends' adds leisure and enjoyment to make weekends special.
Furthermore, 'Break for Stopping' provides time for self-reflection and inner reflection, while 'Break for Leaping' presents the driving force for growth to move forward into a better self.
We need the joy of rest
Why can't we get enough rest? Is it because we fear that once we start, we won't be able to get back on track? Or is it because we view rest as a luxury amidst our busy lives? Many people say, "I don't have time to rest" or "I feel guilty even when I do rest."
It may not be simply a lack of time that prevents us from allowing ourselves rest.
However, this book guides us that rest is not laziness, but rather a path that leads to self-expression.
Rest is not a hindrance to growth, but rather an important process for achieving balance in life.
In rest, we can explore ourselves and become more generous.
For busy and tired modern people, rest is no longer an option but a necessity.
If through this time you come to understand me more deeply, then that will be a journey of joy.
I hope this book will provide a moment of rest for us as we live each day.
