The Aging of Words: Sentences Perfected by Time
Description
Book Introduction
"The Aging of Words: Sentences Perfected by Time" is an essay written by Park Hyun-min, a journalist and interviewer who has met countless people for nearly 20 years. He has written down sentences that have lingered in his mind for a long time among the words he has personally heard.
Words that were once just a passing phrase in an article have come to life with a different meaning over time, and the author has recorded this change.
After the drama "Misaeng" ended, actor Kim Dae-myung said, "I will set my own standards for happiness," actor Song Kang-ho advised, "Life is not a 100-meter dash," producer Na Young-seok said, "I adapt my body to rapid changes," and Kim Yoon-ah of Jaurim confessed, "I just want to be a decent adult."
The author rereads their words, calmly writing about how their words mature over time and how the lingering impressions they leave behind have shaped who he is today.
『The Maturation of Words』 is a book that ultimately started from the belief that ‘records’ make ‘people’ remember, and ‘time’ perfects ‘words.’

Into the book
I have been collecting transcripts of interviews, along with a list of interviewees I have met over the past 10 years.
It's not that I have any intention of doing anything special, but it's just a very old habit of being organized.
Recently, the list of interviewees has surpassed a thousand.
--- From "Prologue: A Look at the Interview Comments"
Goals are not something that should be set out of a sense of obligation, and they certainly don't have to be something to show off to someone.
In today's world, where we are pressured to answer questions like, "How will you live from now on?", if we live each moment to the best of our ability without shame, that is already enough.
If you just let it flow quietly like that, there will come a moment when you naturally touch something.
I believe so.
--- From "I don't set goals"
Perhaps the act of collecting and distributing the story “You have to read to survive” (whether voluntarily or not) was intended to alleviate the guilt created by words and actions that one considers wrong.
Being good or bad may not be a significant enough factor to change your chances of success.
So, even if it's not for your whole life, why don't you try living with this kind of mindset like Park Bo-gum, even if it's just for one day?
Not just his handsome face, but his warm and humble heart.
--- From "A World Where Being Kind Makes You a Fool"
While doing this job, I met (of course) many celebrities.
I met idol groups, especially, very often.
Girls' Generation, Wonder Girls, 2PM, Beast, MBLAQ, 4Minute, Sistar, B1A4, EXO, BTS, NU'EST, Infinite, VIXX, AOA, Girl's Day, GOT7, etc., there are countless more.
The period in which I was in charge of music almost perfectly coincided with the period in which the largest number of idol groups were produced in South Korea.
--- From "Living as an Idol in South Korea"
Familiarity erases anxiety.
But the sense of accomplishment that could be gained from being clumsy also disappears.
There is nothing good about being forced.
Rather, if you approach it with an honest heart, you may get better results.
Human emotions also have an expiration date.
As time goes by, there will come a time when you try to force it out and it won't come out.
--- From "If you suppress your emotions, they become shit"
Memories are always fickle.
Some scenes are sharper than necessary, and some moments are blurry no matter how hard you try.
So we need records.
Records fill in the gaps in memory and give form to things that are easily volatile.

Publisher's Review
Don't you have something like that too?
There are times when a single word someone says lingers for a long time and comes to mind from time to time.
When words that we had just casually heard years later come to us with a completely different weight, we finally come to understand their true meaning.
“The Maturation of Words” is a book that contains just such an experience.
Author Park Hyun-min, who has interviewed over a thousand people for nearly 20 years, has selected sentences from his own records that have not been forgotten over time but have actually become more profound and have been included in this book.
The experience of words that were just a passing phrase in an article at the time coming back to life with a completely different resonance after the passage of time.
The author experienced this change firsthand and realized that 'words mature over time.'
"The Maturity of Words" is not a book that teaches interview techniques or contains grand theories.
This book records the moment when someone's words linger in my heart and those words return to me as time passes.
So this book will be most helpful to those who appreciate the value of words, those who treasure someone's words, and those who often recall and reminisce about past memories.
It will also serve as a warm resting place for those who want to stop for a moment and reflect on themselves in a world that is changing too quickly.
The sentences in the book show us how to live in our own way.
It does not provide the correct answer.
Instead, it makes us feel again the 'temperature of words' that we have forgotten by seeing each person living at their own pace and by their own standards.
While reading 『The Maturation of Words』, you too will be reminded of someone else's words.
And it might make you reconsider what those words mean to you now.
Even though words pass, the warmth they leave behind will not disappear.
As time goes by, it becomes deeper and stronger, and eventually becomes a part of our lives.
If you are someone who wants to feel that warmth again, this book will stay with you for a long time.
