Description
Book Introduction
[The perfect tower of comfort we, imperfect as we are, built together]
"Why do we focus only on the outcome of the Tower of Babel?"
The curator who saw Pieter Bruegel's at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria, asked:
It is said that he did not see the tower collapse as a punishment from God, but rather the people who had built the tower together.
I'm talking about the arduous process of communicating in the same language and cooperating step by step.
《Covered Languages》 is just that kind of book.
This book contains the process, not the completion, and togetherness, not the result.
Courage in Daily Writing, Growth in Sharing
Ten writers completed a total of 150 short essays over the course of one month.
People from diverse occupations and backgrounds gathered here, ranging from college students in their 20s to those in their 50s, soldiers, teachers, clinical pathologists, and freelancers.
If there's one thing they have in common, it's that they wanted to face themselves through writing.
Writing every day is not an easy task.
Some days I could write smoothly, but other days I struggled to write even a single word, even after holding on for hours.
But they didn't give up.
We read each other's writing, shared feedback, cheered each other on, and completed the race together.
The result is this book.
These are stories written with sincerity, even if they are not perfect and sometimes clumsy.
The Miracle of 500 Characters: The Power of Short Stories
The most notable feature of “Covered Languages” is its format of short essays of around 500 characters.
Just because it's short doesn't mean it's light.
Rather, because it is short, it leaves a stronger impression on the heart.
Sentences that strip away unnecessary formalities and leave only the core message accurately target the reader's heart.
You can read it without any burden anytime, anywhere: on the subway on your way to and from work, in bed before falling asleep, or at your desk with a cup of coffee.
It takes less than three minutes to read one piece, but the aftertaste lingers all day.
You can open any page and read it.
You can also look at the table of contents and find a title that catches your eye.
The story you need will be waiting for you at the moment you need it.
[Our story, one that everyone can relate to]
There are no grand success stories in this book.
Instead, it contains moments of life that are extremely ordinary and therefore more true.
An adult who hides under the covers because he is afraid of a monster under the bed ("The Monster Under the Bed")
A young man who follows the path his parents set for him, but doesn't know his own direction ("Broken Compass")
A wife who witnesses her husband cheating in her dreams and beats him in real life ("The Battered Husband")
A man who dreams of winning the lottery but always loses ("Selective Two Rooms")
Office workers stamping their feet in traffic on their way to work ("The Burdensome Truth")
We are all anxious.
I'm hurt in relationships, tired of everyday life, sorry to my family, and afraid of the future.
But at the same time, we are all growing.
Try to be a little better than yesterday, find small happiness, and find the courage to get up again.
This book records the extraordinary courage of such ordinary people.
