Have you ever contributed to someone else's success?
Description
Book Introduction
Survival Code for a Changing World After the Pandemic
A new growth formula for those seeking innovation, change, and leaps forward.

How did Microsoft, once considered an "old dinosaur" in the IT industry, a sector experiencing rapid innovation, achieve its resurgence to become the world's largest market cap company? Director Lee So-young, who has been at the forefront of change at Microsoft for 17 years, attributes the success to a shift in employee evaluation methods based on the question, "How have you contributed to the success of others?"
Everyone sets goals and strives to become the best.
Microsoft also ran with the goal of winning the competition, but its growth stagnated and its slump continued for over a decade.
Newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella introduced a growth mindset that says, "Anyone can learn," and added the question, "Have you ever contributed to the success of others?" to the evaluation process.
Then, the culture changed from one of competition to one of helping each other grow, and the stock price grew more than tenfold, allowing the company to regain the top spot.

The author experienced firsthand that the method that drove Microsoft's growth could also be applied to personal growth, and summarized this growth equation as "partnership" in the book "Have You Contributed to Someone Else's Success?"
Why "partnership"? In a constantly changing world, no matter how smart you are, you have limitations if you work alone.
Within an organization, having partnerships between superiors, subordinates, and employees increases the likelihood of surviving times of change and crisis and achieving remarkable growth.
The author says that the question, "Have you ever contributed to the success of others?" ultimately leads organizations and individuals to success.
This book is not about teaching you the traditional principles of success or self-development methods.
This is a must-read book that provides a growth equation suitable for an era of great change.

Into the book
Microsoft has been mired in a slump for over a decade.
However, after the appointment of Chairman Satya Nadella, the company continued to innovate and grow, and even regained the top spot in market capitalization.
The secret to Microsoft's innovation and growth isn't cloud and AI technology.
It's a partnership where employees, colleagues, the company, and customers work together to create a culture of growth and a willingness to learn and share any innovative technology.

--- p.37, from “Digital Age Survival Code Partnership”

I can't help but be flustered when asked this question.
I naturally learned how to build strong yet flexible partnerships with my colleagues, and through that, I not only improved my own performance but also contributed to the success of others.
Many people might be surprised by Microsoft's somewhat philosophical and abstract employee evaluations.
My staff and I were not able to adapt to this evaluation method from the beginning.
However, as the years went by, I pondered over the two evaluation criteria and actually applied them, and as a result, I experienced amazing growth.
The growth of my team members and the company was amazing, but my own growth and change was even greater and more amazing.

--- p.47~48, from “How have you contributed to the success of others?”

When doing a given task, it is difficult to fully demonstrate my strengths.
It is also true that if you only focus on work and family, it is difficult to seize opportunities for growth due to your narrow perspective and network.
It's also beneficial for companies to have employees continue to pursue their personal passions and voluntary learning.
This is because such positive energy creates a virtuous cycle that helps other members grow.
However, if you work on a project that is completely different from your work, you cannot help but be mindful of the company's opinion.
Have you ever contributed to the success of others while also having a positive impact on your work? How can you build a network and positively impact your vision for the future?
--- p.114~115, from “Growing by Contributing to Others’ Success”

If I could become my own employee, I could work my entire life without any restrictions.
But all of this requires the most basic skills.
It is not something that can be acquired by studying hard as a student or working hard at the assigned task as an employee.
So what should we do? Even if we don't get hired, we now live in a world where we can leverage our unique experiences and expertise to leverage various digital platforms to make ourselves employable.
However, in order to secure a certain level of competitiveness, you must have the stamina to climb deep valleys and steep rocky mountains.
The stamina I built over three years at a venture company where I was hired for a monthly salary of 500,000 won gave me the strength to climb the mountains, big and small, without giving up.

--- p.121~123, from “100-Year-Old Era, Hire Yourself”

There are deep concerns about the education of children who are staying at home all day instead of going to school or academies due to COVID-19.
In this situation, isn't there an opportunity for mutual growth through coaching and feedback? Just as Microsoft's team managers identify each team member's strengths and individuality and coach them to maximize their potential, parents and teachers should strive to be effective coaches.
The role of a manager who teaches knowledge or manages children's time and learning is no longer meaningful.
We must make good use of that effort and time by observing and listening closely to find out what our children's strengths are.
And it is time to focus on my role as a coach, guiding the children to develop their strengths to the fullest and helping them grow together.
--- p.224~226, from “Coaching and Feedback to Share Wisdom and Encourage Each Other”
