Book Introduction

“Leisure wasn’t that far away.
Just here, right now,
“It was the closest happiness I could have if I just put my mind to it.”
Actor Hayden Warne has published his first collection of essays.
He became known to domestic fans through the dramas 'Mom's Friend's Son' and 'The Crown Prince Has Disappeared', and he is an unconventional actor who even taught himself English in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and entered Hollywood.
His first collection of essays, How to Steal Leisure, is not a book that gives a glimpse into the life of an actor, but a book containing the thoughts and confessions of a human being.
He loves walking and thinking, and one day, when he puts down his phone, he realizes that there is a world that he can see.
The color of the sky that passed by without a second thought, the relationship that was too close to be seen, and even the small voice inside that was buried in the noise outside.
And then you realize.
Leisure is not something that someone gives you, it is something you have to steal yourself.
So I picked up the pen.
To record the little thoughts and sounds that pass by.
I wrote down the thoughts and feelings that suddenly came to me in bed, on walks, on planes to LA, and at work, without any embellishment, and the things I wrote down each day piled up and became the foundation of this book.
His confession that “the world becomes a completely different landscape depending on how I look at it” reminds me of the preciousness of everyday life that I had been missing.
As we follow the process of his thinking to realize what he truly desires amidst the gap between ideals and reality, we learn how he, once swayed by the vast world, regains his balance and regains his sense of direction.
Sometimes we gain courage to look back on ourselves from someone's honest confession.
This book will give you just such a moment.

Into the book
The chirping of birds, the laughter of people, the chattering of words, the rustling of the wind, the dancing of leaves, the rays of light spreading across them, white clouds, the blue sky, the orange sunset, the purple sky before darkness, the stars in the night sky, the scent of the night air, flowers blooming and falling with each season, and us dying and being reborn in every moment.
At the end, I finally found it.
How to find leisure.

Today, too, I went to the yoga studio with sleepy eyes and my messy hair covered with a hat to face myself.
The first movement is breathing.
Place both hands on your knees, close your eyes, and focus solely on your breathing.
If you focus your attention on a certain point in your mind and breathe, you will feel that there are countless fluctuations even in that short period of time.
Don't try to forcefully correct the shaking, but don't let it loosen up too much either, and focus on your breathing as it comes in and goes out.
As you do this, you will feel your breath moving.
Sometimes I feel my breath rising in my chest, sometimes in my back, and the coming and going of my breath is not constant.
Once your breathing is regulated, gradually move into the movements.
I follow the teacher's lead and do my best without overdoing it.
On the outside, it doesn't seem like much movement, so you might wonder if you'll sweat, but when you actually do it, it feels like sweat is pouring down.
I wonder if there is any exercise that I can't control as much as yoga.

Today, as I was walking through Yeouido Park, I saw children running around on the hill.
As I got closer, I saw the teacher blowing soap bubbles for the children.
Both the child who caught the bubble and the child who lost the bubble were laughing.
From that sight, I felt that the act of trying to grab something was different from that of an adult.
The children just laugh even when the soap bubbles in front of them burst on my hand or run away from my hand.
Maybe you don't really want to catch soap bubbles.
As if it were just a medium that provides pleasure and had no purpose.
It's pure enjoyment.
Perhaps the most precious thing we have forgotten is that ‘purity.’
You might say, “I’m busy trying to make a living right now, so what’s the point of talking about purity? It’s so comfortable.”
right.
What a relaxing sound.
The sound of a full stomach.
But on the other hand, I wonder why I can't have even one comfortable sound on this precious day given to me.
--- pp.79-80
A wart landed on the head of the person next to me, but he didn't even notice that there was a wart on his head.
We teased her by communicating with our eyes.
She noticed it too late and was startled at first, but instead of shaking her head and trying to remove the wart, she sang even more excitedly.
I asked if I was scared.
She said that if a locust lands on my head, it means good luck will come to me.
“It’s really scary.
But a locust sitting on your head means good luck.
I think our meeting is today's good fortune.
I can't take my luck away from me.
“Just enjoy the good luck you have now.”
At the end, I finally found it.
How to find leisure.

Publisher's Review
“Now I am an adult with much more and more abilities,
In a corner of my heart, I miss the feelings of my childhood.
Why is it, what was so good about it?
“I found the answer to that question through this book.” (Author Hong-gyun Yoon)
What have we lost as we grew up, from our childhood days filled with joy and curiosity?
"How to Steal Leisure" is a record of a journey to find 'something' that is not visible now but is clearly around us.
Actor and writer Hayden Warne relentlessly digs into moments that could easily be overlooked.
His writing, which captures emotions that were on the verge of evaporation and transfers them to paper, is sometimes like a short poem, and sometimes like a letter to someone close to him.
Anxiety and fear, joy and gratitude are naturally mixed together, striking the reader's private and intimate heart.
And it reawakens the senses that have become dulled by daily life, and calls back to mind, one by one, the things that have been forgotten.
The coolness of the morning air, the sound of rain while sitting by the window on a rainy day, the moments when someone's words warmed our hearts, those days when we didn't lack anything even though we weren't rich.
Leisure is not something grand, but a small gap that you give yourself.
Just by looking up at the sky for a moment, we can find comfort enough.
I truly hope that everyone who reads this book knows this.
