Doesn't it matter?
Description
Book Introduction
Another genre we didn't know about, Janggiha! Musician Jang Ki-ha publishes his first collection of essays, "Isn't It Regardless?" I look deeply into myself and gradually unburden my mind. About small efforts to live as 'me' This book is the first collection of essays by musician Jang Ki-ha, who has been loved for his lively and beautiful lyrics and unique music. As an ordinary person living in this moment and as a pop musician, I honestly, candidly, and cheerfully express my thoughts and feelings about everyday life. It is filled with long-term stories that are sometimes funny, sometimes bittersweet, and sometimes deeply relatable, about how to accept the joys and sorrows of everyday life. Above all, it is enjoyable and refreshing. Small objects, trivial events, and everyday life that can easily be overlooked are transformed into special and sensuous experiences in his writing. Jang Ki-ha's prose is as captivating as his powerful and literary song lyrics, providing the 'fun of reading' in one sitting. You can feel that his songs come from a free-spirited yet strong inner self. As you follow Jang Gi-ha's storytelling, which captures seemingly insignificant but deeply concerning events and everyday objects that are easily overlooked and recreates them into its own delightful stories, you will find yourself filled with joy and warmth. The story of Jang Ki-ha, a writer and not a musician, has just begun. I'm going to try to write about things that don't really matter. The seemingly irrelevant things that have been bothering me. Just because you say it doesn't matter doesn't mean you can simply overcome it or forget about it. Quite the opposite. I don't know how to solve such problems. There doesn't seem to be a sharp number. But just as repeating a word over and over again makes its meaning unclear, I have a feeling that just by pulling out and writing down all the unrelated things, their power will be somewhat weakened. Into the book
My hesitation to bring up the story is also genuine.
The same goes for the courage to overcome that feeling.
A true conversation is about facing all of those conflicting truths without exception and then conveying them to the other person in an appropriate way.
--- p.26
I often think that it would be a truly wonderful life if I could gradually reduce my desires for things, people, or anything else, and then, at the last moment of my life, completely give up even my desire for life and die.
--- p.46
I don't think there's anything more reliable than feelings.
I believe that taking good care of your own feelings is a shortcut to happiness.
And above all, I think there are few things in life more important than feeling good.
--- p.52
Anyone who has ever planned a vacation and taken a break has experienced this.
It's about finding yourself doing 'something' without even realizing it.
--- p.58
I feel satisfied with living without taking on anything unnecessary for myself.
It's a different matter than saving money.
It is the pleasure that comes from having no frills in life.
--- p.79
To be free means to be vague, and a vague life is often lonely.
When there is no one to guide you and you have to somehow get through it, isn't there anyone who isn't lonely?
--- p.119
Whether you capture it with a camera, upload it to Instagram, or make it into YouTube content, life eventually evaporates.
Even if a person's life is filmed in every detail and made into a documentary that runs for hours and is released on Netflix, it cannot be an exception.
--- p.158
‘Wow… … I didn’t know how to do this… …’ I felt embarrassed.
I've been a professional musician for over ten years, and I thought I'd recharged after a year of rest, but when I finally returned to my studio after a long time, the first thing that greeted me was frustration with my own abilities.
--- p.175
The only thing that is certain for everyone is that at every moment we are getting closer to death.
And it's very difficult not to feel sad when you face that fact head on.
Perhaps the belief that everything gets better with time is a struggle to forget death.

Publisher's Review
Even if things don't go as planned, even if you feel lost
Living each day according to my own will
The songs of 'Jang Ki-ha and the Faces' are always cheerful and original, no matter what message they contain.
So, just like the rhythm and the lyrics, we can imagine that Jang Ki-ha's life will always be enjoyable.
But Jang Ki-ha's prose allows us to see the other side of those cheerful songs.
We sense that Jang Ki-ha and his songs are the result of his efforts, which must not have been easy, to live freely according to his own will without anyone's help.
Everyone has struggles that others don't know about, and life isn't perfect for anyone.
As the phrase in the book says, “There is no sharp point in front of happiness” (page 187).
Perhaps that is why it is so difficult to pursue a free life, cherishing one's day as a "very rare record that is extremely difficult to obtain and that is only allowed to be played once" (p. 241), without ever stopping to look at oneself so intently.
Perhaps freedom can only be enjoyed in the loneliness of being fully responsible for oneself.
Each of his writings reflects the solid health of a man who has developed a habit of looking deeply into himself and calmly accepting the joys and sorrows of life.
I am a person who values freedom above all else, and so I naturally support those who dream of a free life.
But even if your day wasn't as free as you'd like, there's probably something you enjoyed because of it.
I've been feeling lost all day, and I just felt lonely while taking a walk at night, but somehow I feel like I've managed to live my life the way I want today.

A little more toned down and a little more plain
A life and song that carves out 'my own'
The book is divided into two main parts: Day and Night.
Part 1, 'Day', contains writings that depict the small joys of everyday life in a cheerful yet calm manner.
His stories, which expand his own thoughts by capturing small objects and small events, show his outstanding ability as a storyteller.
Part 2, 'Night', is filled with honest stories about the difficulties of creative work and the challenges of life.
The frustration experienced between what one wants to do and what one can do, and the concerns of a creator in an age where artificial intelligence even knows people's tastes, are all fully reflected in this book.
His prose, filled with sincere thoughts about life and art, two similar things, and simple questions about myself and the world around me, naturally leads to reflections that relieve the burden and desires of the heart.
Since everyone is ultimately equal in that there is no shortcut to happiness, I don't think there is any reason to feel envious of someone who seems better than me, so I rarely compare myself to others and feel discouraged... ... It would be nice if that were the case, but in reality, that's not the case at all.
Dozens of times a day, I feel discouraged because I think I'm inferior to others.
Especially when I open Instagram, I feel intimidated by almost everyone who appears on my feed.

The Jang Gi-ha we knew, the Jang Gi-ha we didn't know
Jang Ki-ha, who dominates the stage and sings, and Jang Ki-ha, who sits at his desk and writes down his deep thoughts, are two different yet similar people.
The life of a celebrity in the glamorous spotlight and the life of an ordinary person who goes to the market, cooks a meal, and thinks about the future are all one person's life.
Jang Ki-ha's prose is fascinating because it shows that these two things are calmly balanced within one person.
In an era where everyone reveals their own confident persona, the process of a creator and a person who wishes to live freely as themselves, colliding with each other, conversing with each other, and finding reconciliation is similar to the thoughts of a person taking a quiet stroll.
It always touches me when I hear people say that the music I create is comforting.
I'm so touched it's almost unreal.
No, it would be more accurate to say that it is so unrealistic that it is moving.
I find it incredibly amazing that my songs can comfort someone.
Because I don't make music to comfort other people.
Making music has always been a process of comforting myself.
