Book Introduction
In the summer of 2025, the 200th commemorative teaser poetry collection of the Munhakdongne Poetry Series, “Us to the End of the World,” will be republished.
This cover adds a fresh touch to the poet series by placing the title in the center and using vertical writing, unlike previous poet series.
This harmonizes with the powerful image of a mailbox flying away with a letter in its arms, adding dynamism to the poet's endlessly running line.
The new poems included in the teaser poetry collection have been added to readers' bookshelves one by one, being included in the Munhakdongne Poet Selection since its publication in 2023.
I hope that by looking at the poems that have now been collected and those waiting to be read, you can get a glimpse into the poet's past, present, and even future.
Munhakdongne Poets' Selection is publishing a commemorative teaser poetry collection to celebrate its 200th poetry collection.
The Munhakdongne Poetry Collection, which began in January 2011 with the poetry of Choi Seung-ho, Heo Su-gyeong, and Song Jae-hak, has focused on young poets with unique voices, as it began with the catchphrase, "Aiming for a younger sensibility and deeper thought!"
'Young' poetry is a movement toward a new sensibility unrelated to biological age, and at the same time, it is an expression of the will to pay attention to talented new writers and provide many places for 'first poetry collections'.
The poets who published their first poetry collections through the Munhakdongne Poet Selection from No. 1 to No. 199 are Park Jun, Lee Eun-gyu, Shin Cheol-gyu, Lee Won-ha, Lee Hyeon-ho, Choi Hyeon-woo, Kim Hee-jun, and Go Myeong-jae, 45 of whom account for more than a quarter of all poetry collections.
In particular, poet Park Jun's first poetry collection, "I wrote your name and ate it for several days," achieved the remarkable record of 60 printings and 200,000 copies produced early this year, the 10th anniversary of its publication.
The readers' response to the special passion and freedom that can only be felt in the first poetry collection was consistent and enthusiastic.
In short, the 199-volume poetry collection was a 'house of poetry' that young poets and young poets built together, believing in each other's potential and passion. As the number of readers who visited the place increased, the roof became more solid and the yard became wider, so it was able to become a house that embraced more opportunities without having out-of-print poetry collections.
No celebration of the 200th poetry collection could be complete without mentioning the bold design and tense editing of Suryusanbang.
The cover of the Munhakdongne Poet's Selection, which consisted only of the poet's name, the title of the poetry collection, and the color that expressed it, was a new innovation in the publishing market.
The poet's unique poetic world and the colors that intuitively reveal it were represented as aesthetic elements of the Munhakdongne Poet Selection, adding 200 colors to the world.

Into the book
When people ask you why you are humming a song, you say
I've been to the end of the world, I answer.
There's a deep-sea fish swimming in your pocket.
Nobody believes me
--- From "Gooseberry, Gooseberry is Ripening" by Hee-yeon Ahn

Don't sit in the middle of the night with unlit candles.
I like good things.
Civilization has planted us in the light, but so what?
plant.
It's okay to die.
I have to keep dying.
Then the flower pot will become huge.
Dividing heaven and hell is simply a human task.

--- From "Lee Young-ju, Polar Regions"

His first home was a hotel built with freshly minted love and concrete.
When he was gathering materials, he realized that his architectural plans were so rebellious.
Little did he know that the passionate and innocent scent of the drawing would perhaps only come once in his life.

The large fire that spread from the back mountain to the hotel was something he had to deal with alone. He said it was a careless prank by one of the guests who climbed the mountain instead of the comfortable bed of the hotel. However,

In the world of love, collapse doesn't necessarily mean destruction.

He worked hard to build several different houses by paying for the soot left behind by his guests. The houses are in reality
It was built and disappeared repeatedly.
--- From "Kim Yeon-deok, Inviting Love and Watching It Day and Night"

I swallowed every toenail but I didn't go to the hospital.
I have no problem.
Young men and middle-aged men who have swallowed every toenail, wealthy and respected people who have been intimate with me, like wild weasels and wildcats.

From the perspective of the original, I am outside the realm of being a young woman.
I'm going back.
Hair that reaches down to the ears.
My wonderful decorations.
The doctor might diagnose it as a feather.
This will remain until the end to confirm my identity.
--- From "Shin Iin, Dream Roulette"

No resentment
There is no life
No elderly,
The old man comes smiling
Old people come and laugh
Love the elderly
Rejoice in your enemies
Burn like a flower, like a flame
Like fog, like music
Flow
--- From "Lee Young-kwang, Old Man"

How do you feel?

The body was split into a hundred pieces
Coming back again?

While watching one person's night, another's day
Can I go?

You came in after so many people came in
I wonder if I can fall asleep
--- From "Lee Hwon, Baek"

I picked it up because it was shiny, and it turned out to be candy that someone had eaten and spit out.

How many words could the candy have endured in its moist mouth?

Even though I only touched it for a moment

The stickiness didn't go away
--- From "Jung Da-yeon, Missed Call"

A sleeping person doesn't know
When darkness falls, on that lawn
There are nights when I pick up white things while sweating profusely.
There are so many nights when I don't want to get caught with my whole body wet.

A life that is not glorified
Like flipping a switch
There is no magic that can easily clear up the noise.
--- From "Jo On-yoon, Picking Up the Ball at Midnight"

If you try your best to slowly drift apart, it's not a breakup.
Just staying can't make a song.
Because music is a form of a person traveling through infinite time.
I buried a snowflake where song and future intersect.
On top of that, in a small voice, hello, greeting again like the first day we met
--- From "Lee Hye-mi, Ice Sleep - ASLSP"

When your interest ends and mine ends someday, will we still have something left?
The heart to remain until the end and protect something.
--- From "Im Sol-ah, Crushed Stone"

I also sigh habitually like you
While you worry about pimples and freckles on your face
I wish I could burst out in laughter

Maybe life has meaning
I hope you enjoy life quite a bit.
--- From "Kim I-deum, to his junior"

Hee said, so whether it's a field or a rice paddy, it would be better to go to a mountain. She would just lie there and stay there all the time. It would rot, and her body would be consumed by each and every living creature in the mountain, and she would slowly become a target for eating, but she was okay with that.

I said, I like it when a dead body burns and turns to ashes, when it scatters in anger. Every time I watch a movie, I think about how good it would be if everything ended like that, a moistureless purity, a longing for the spirit, pure extinction.
--- From "An Tae-un, Pine Cone"

Publisher's Review
50 poets answer the questions, "What is poetry?" and "What poem have you written recently?"
Teaser Poetry Collection for the 200th Anniversary of the Munhakdongne Poetry Collection, "Us to the End of the World"

The Munhakdongne Poet's Selection received attention for its unique format of the 'teaser poetry collection' ('I wonder if your beauty will become all words') published in December 2017 to commemorate its 100th poetry collection.
If the usual format for a commemorative issue of the Poet Selection was to publish representative works from existing poetry collections, the 'Teaser Poetry Collection' is, as the name suggests, a 'preview of the future poetry collection' that compiles new poems by poets to be published in the future, and contains the 'next world' that the Munhakdongne Poet Selection will draw.
The 200th poetry collection also maintained the teaser format.
This volume contains new poems by 50 poets who will be published in the Munhakdongne Poetry Collection in the future, ranging from newcomers who debuted in 2023 to poets who have just published their first poetry collection, as well as veteran poets who have been in the literary community for over 40 years.

“It’s not that we have already become poets, but we write poetry in order to become poets every time” (Shin Hyeong-cheol). Together with these names, the Munhakdongne Poet Selection seeks to imagine the ‘end of the world’ and what comes after.

This teaser poetry collection, "Us to the End of the World," contains not only new poems but also the common question, "What is poetry?" and its answers.
I thought it was necessary to ask this fundamental yet broad question as I looked back on the poetry collection that has spanned 12 years.
The condition for the answer is 'one sentence'.
The single sentences of the 50 poets gathered in this way, whether long or short, are read as the most concise and earnest confession toward poetry.

What is poetry?
“Poetry is building a house for a love that cannot stay” (Kim Yeon-deok) and “the sadness that does not diminish, the work of jumping in because you like that” (Park Yeon-jun).
It is “proof that there are secrets in the world that have not yet been revealed” (Kwon Nu-ri), “resurrection through the heart of the dead” (Shin Mi-na), and “telling us to honestly go through despair and sadness” (Lee Seung-hee).
Could it be "eating a McDonald's apple pie that might be discontinued at any moment while searching for ingredients to bake into the next pie" (Han Yeo-jin) or "rewriting the world very slowly" (Jeong Da-yeon)? Perhaps it's like "bubbles coming out of a drowning man's nose" (Jang Seung-ri) or "a living room connected to every room in the world" (Jo Hae-ju).
If we put on “shoes that take us to the end of the world” (Hee-yeon Ahn) and board a “vehicle made of language” (Hye-mi Lee) that “takes the writer and the reader to the outer world of thought,” I am very curious about what kind of scenery we will encounter then.

The struggles of the poet and the reader are not mutually antagonistic.
If you can solve them simultaneously, that would be good.
That is the role of the poet.
Siding with both the poet and the reader.
It is a poem that is read, but, or rather, a poem that makes both the poet and the reader feel confident.
Trusting in the delicate cognitive capacity of poetry, and dreaming that through it, the lives of both poets and readers will gain depth.
Just as Marion Moore began her poem titled “Poetry” with “I, too, hate poetry,” but ended it by affirming that poetry is “a place for the truth.”
The Munhakdongne Poet Selection has produced 199 volumes over the past 12 years.
This means that we have been trying to resolve 199 complaints.
Poet Seon's hardships? There's no such thing.
A world where neither poets nor readers can endure suffering any longer, and the only suffering is concern about such a world. _Shin Hyeong-cheol, planning committee member of the Munhakdongne Poetry Collection, from "Us to the End of the World" (Preface)
