20th Anniversary Revised Edition Released!

A 20th anniversary revised edition of "Four and a Half Points," a classic in the history of Korean picture books that leaves a lasting impression, has been published.
『Four and a Half Points』 is a picture book based on the children's poem by Seok-Jung Yun. Since its publication, it has been loved by all generations for its warm portrayal of Korean sentiments by children's book author Young-Kyung Lee.
With over 100,000 copies sold, it has met with many readers and is considered a 'must-read picture book' by many picture book authors, critics, researchers, and readers.

This revised edition features a bright cover with a crimson daisy flower background that catches the eye.
The image of a child crouching quietly and observing ants also aligns with the narrative of the work, which is about forgetting time and becoming absorbed in play.
In the text, the background color of the picture was adjusted to be brighter and the format was enlarged to allow the picture to be viewed more clearly.
The old rural scenery vividly depicts a time when not every house had a clock, and it is touching.
The innocent sight of a child observing the world and walking until the sun sets reminds us of the essence of play and resonates with readers today.

A masterpiece of contemporary literature, Yun Seok-jung's masterpiece

Yun Seok-jung began his literary career in 1924 when his children's song "Spring" was selected for the New Youth magazine, and in 1925 when his song "Ottogi" was selected for the Children's magazine.
Among the songs written by the teacher, there are many familiar songs such as “Children’s Day Song,” “Graduation Song,” “Half Moon in the Daytime,” “Pongdang Pongdang,” and “Spring Outing.”
"Four and a Half Poems" (1940) is a masterpiece that not only captures the unique rhythm of children's poetry in friendly and clean Korean, but also has an interesting twist that makes it unforgettable once you hear it.
In the days when clocks were rare, a child would leave home on an errand from his mother to find out what time it was, but he would get so caught up in playing that he forgot and only returned home after the sun had set to report, “It’s 4:30 now.” This is a funny sight.
Even though more than half a century has passed since it was written, it is a work that still provides us with entertainment and inspiration.

Author Lee Young-kyung, who has created picture books with a strong Korean sentiment, such as 『Seven Comrades in the Lady's Room』 and 『The Magical Picture Scroll』, created 『Four and a Half Points』 using her own childhood as the temporal and spatial background.
To realistically recreate a rural village in the 1960s, the author meticulously visited Unsan Village in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, several times.
I also heard stories from the village grandmothers and grandfathers, and collected artifacts at places like the Education Museum in Deokpojin, Gimpo, and the Life History Museum in Yongin.
The painting, which appears to have been drawn comfortably and without greed, is imbued with the artist's characteristic wit and humor.

Even after hearing the old man at the gadget shop say, “It’s four and a half points,” the main character, the child, cannot go home right away and ends up losing his mind to the things playing around him, such as chickens, ants, and dragonflies.
Wherever a child's eyes linger, a new play space opens up, and within it are friends engrossed in their own play.
Not only the chickens, ants, and dragonflies mentioned in the poem, but also animals such as cats, toads, and quails tell their own stories.
As you read the book following the child's perspective and path, you will soon find yourself immersed in the child's play.
The child who returned home only after the sun had set proudly said, “It’s 4:30 now.”
Readers cannot help but laugh at the mother's dumbfounded expression and the awkward child sneaking in between his siblings as they eat dinner.

A book that can be read and enjoyed across generations

The font of the text of 『Nokjeom and a Half』 was created by collecting letters from 『Oryun Haengsildo』 one by one to capture the feeling of the poem and the picture.
The background color feels like faded Korean paper, the colors are extremely limited except for the main character child wearing a crimson skirt, and the calm tones, combined with the high-school-feeling typography, give off a very familiar, yet old-fashioned feeling.
This picture book, in which author Lee Young-kyung gives a fresh interpretation of the poems of our children's song master Yun Seok-jung and opens them to a new world, is a great piece to read to children.

'Our Poetry Picture Book' is a series that shows new possibilities for picture books through a unique combination of poetry and pictures.
Based on carefully selected traditional nursery rhymes, modern poetry, and children's poems, we expressed the unique rhythms, images, and reflections on life of our poetry in a unique format.
Since its debut in 2003 with 『Siridongdong Geomjidongdong』 (Jejudo Kkorittagi Song, rewritten and illustrated by Kwon Yun-deok), over the past 10 years, Korea's top illustrators have participated in 『Nokjeom and a Half』 (poem by Yoon Seok-joong, illustrated by Lee Yeong-gyeong), 『Junchi Thorn』 (poem by Baek Seok, illustrated by Kim Se-hyeon), and 『Yeongi's Plastic Umbrella』 (poem by Yoon Dong-jae, illustrated by Kim Jae-hong), broadening the horizons of our picture books with new and profound interpretations.
Each work shines with unique characters, beautiful and traditional colors, and a variety of techniques.
The achievements of 'Our Picture Book' have been recognized overseas, and it has been invited to various overseas exhibitions. It has also been exported to France, Japan, Switzerland, China, and other countries, reaching children around the world.
