Book Introduction
How is your life right now?
Life is always new, every day, every moment.
Today is our first meeting.

"Letter of Hope from Venerable Pomnyun" is a story about our lives and people, delivered through text, pictures, and videos to over 1.8 million subscribers every day from 2012 to 2019.
We have published on our SNS channel the stories of Venerable Pomnyun's conversations with over 7,000 people during 1,250 lectures held at home and abroad, in short texts and images suitable for busy modern people.
Among these, only the most substantial content that received a lot of public attention and sympathy was compiled into a book.

He says, "It's good as it is now."
If you've had another day feeling drained by rising prices, a shortage of jobs, soaring housing prices, and a salary that seems to be stagnant, a reality that doesn't match your wishes, you need a new perspective on life.

To you who are too busy with work, housework, and schoolwork to take care of yourself,
I encourage you to pause, pick up the book, and look at yourself.

I also try to listen to books (healing essays) to calm my depressed and anxious mind.
I also look for good words (quotes that are helpful in life) that I have heard somewhere before,
To you who is completely blinded by my problem
I recommend 『It's Good Just As It Is!』, which contains clear solutions from Venerable Pomnyun.

At first glance, it may seem obvious, but if you think about it again, it's something I really need right now.
Now listen to the voices that contain the true concerns of our lives.

“It’s Okay Just the Way It Is” contains the concerns of our lives.
We will each talk about our own problems, but we will also give you time to think about questions that may be relevant to your own story.
By looking back at myself and thinking about the essence of the problem, I can rediscover who I really am and what the real problem is.

Publisher's Review
I recommend "It's Good As It Is" to these people.

Pretend it's okay, pretend nothing's wrong
Are you enduring a tough day today?

Have you had a busy day today without getting anything done?
They say there are no set answers in life, but do you ever feel like you're missing out on something important?
Do you find it difficult to maintain self-centeredness in a confusing and dizzying world?
Do you want to be free from your tired appearance and stubborn habits?
When I see and hear something, I resolve to change in that moment, but when I turn around, am I once again in the dark about my problem?
On days when I'm so tired and miserable that I want to cry inside, only negative thoughts come to mind.
At that moment, there is just one thought that stops that thought.

The worries in the book "It's Okay Just the Way It Is"

Self-esteem, depression, success, happiness, love, family, work, relationships, anger, performance, etc.
What are you worried about right now?
Ask yourself:

Who am I and what am I doing now?
Where am I going now?

“I am wondering how to live the right way.”
“I keep getting sick and anxious because I keep pushing myself too hard to achieve my big dream.”
“I have a lot of fear of making mistakes and am very conscious of what other people think.”
“I feel depressed about life and have no dreams or passion.”
“How should I live to be more free and happy than I am now?”
“What does it mean to live well?”
“How do you control your greed?”
“I want to be independent, but my parents live for me so much that it feels like a burden.”
“I don’t want to be fawning over others and trying to look good to them.”
“I work in sales, but I find meeting people burdensome.”
“I am on leave.
“At first I was resting well, but now I’m starting to feel anxious and I don’t really have anything I want to do.”
“I am taking medication for depression.
How can I feel at ease?”
“I don’t have any friends with whom I can have a glass of soju without worry.
Some people are uncomfortable for some reason, some people are so opinionated that it gives me a headache, and even old friends aren't as comfortable as they used to be."
“I have supported my husband for 35 years since we got married, but now that I am sick, he doesn’t care about me.”
“I hate that I resemble my parents.”

A story from the book "It's Okay Just the Way It Is"

Life should always be good like this.

The book says:
Be awake at this very moment.
Look at me as I am.
Find the essence of that thought.

To be free from unconscious emotional habits, to no longer be in pain,
Change your perspective and become aware of things, and live a life free from habits, practicing happiness.

If I think that now is the golden age of my life, life will always be happy.
Happiness is not far away.
Happiness is here, right now.
In the day I live, in the task given to me today.

To love myself is to acknowledge and accept the reality of who I am.
It's about knowing that I'm okay just the way I am right now.

When you are tormented by regret, worry, and anxiety, you should immediately wake up and say, 'I am dreaming again.'
Being awake to the present, not to the past or the future, not to the here and now, not to others, not to myself, is the path to freedom.

You must realize that likes and dislikes are not absolutes, but habits of your own mind.
Anger also comes from these mental habits.
You can be free when you are not dragged down by the habits of your mind.

When you let go of the idea that you are special and realize that life is nothing special, life becomes free.

If you think about 'how to live' rather than 'why', a method will come out.
Think about 'How should I live today?'
‘How can I live happily today?’ That is my choice.

Everyone wants to live well. What does it mean to live well? Let go of the mindset that it's yours and use it however you want, and start taking action, starting with small things, to help the environment.

There is no reason for me to be swayed by what each person says based on their own thoughts and feelings.
Live a free life, unhindered by any praise or criticism.

When you make a choice, you have to take responsibility for it.
Because I don't want to take responsibility, I hesitate for a long time.

Desire burns like a firewood fire, and as it burns it needs more firewood.
True happiness is not in satisfying desires, but in not being bound by them.

Inferiority complex does not come from being bad, but from wanting to be better.
We are all different, but all beings are whole.

When we look at life and death as they are, as we look at waves, the fear of death disappears.

Just listen to the other person's story and share your own experience if you have it.
It is my greed to wonder what I should say to comfort that person.

When you go hiking, some people reach the top, while others come down halfway.
Life is simply lived according to fate and time, and there is no right way to live.

No matter what the world's standards are or how the world flows, we must have the insight to see through the world.
This is how you establish your own perspective and put it into practice.

The way to regain self-esteem is not to develop my abilities, but to let go of the illusion of myself.
Come to think of it, I'm fine as I am now.

When you feel empty and hollow, take a good look at your heart.
You will see that you are trying to fill that emptiness with something.
If you let go of that desire, the emptiness will disappear without a trace.

The cause of suffering is living without knowing who you are, where you are going, or what you are doing now.
So sometimes stop and ask yourself, who are you, where are you going, what are you doing?

When you are tormented by regret, worry, and anxiety, you should immediately wake up and say, 'I am dreaming again.'
Being awake to the present, not the past or the future, to the here and now, not the there, to myself and not to others is the path to freedom.

When I was little, I would hold onto the marbles like they were treasures and never let them go, but now I don't even know where they are.
What was once everything may turn out to be nothing.
Now I have to look back and see what kind of beads I am holding.

Good things are not necessarily good.
It is not only the suffering caused by things not going my way that is an obstacle to practice, but also the joy of things going my way that is an obstacle to practice.

When we change our attitude from bystander to participant, we can create a better world.

If you are determined and determined, you can't do it.
If you decide to do something, just do it.
By doing so, you can completely eliminate the momentary urge to not do something.

When you love someone, you should only love with a giving heart and without any expectations.
When I look at flowers, I feel good not because the flowers like me, but because I like the flowers.

When I see life as a process, I can become the master of my own life.
If you value the process, there is no one in this world you can ignore, and no one you can envy.
We are all living precious lives in our own way.

If people suffered losses right then and there when they made a mistake, no one would make a mistake.
Also, if the benefits of doing good things were immediately apparent, anyone would do good things.
If you do good deeds, the rewards will surely come someday.
It just doesn't show up when I want it to and in the way I want it to.

If you know that not everything is good just because things go your way, you won't be upset when things don't go your way.
Spring in my heart, let me create it.

Because they only focus on their own thoughts and habits and do not tolerate anything else, they become angry, irritated, and hateful.
Saying you're angry and resentful means you're the only one who's right.

Whatever they think of me, that's their opinion, and I just live lightly and have fun.

We are now going through trial and error, failing, finding new paths through failure, and repeating challenges.
Constant challenges foster a positive attitude towards life.

The success we pursue is essentially based on the suffering of others.
If I live comfortably without working, I must realize that there are people who work harder than me and live difficult lives.

Whether it's a bad relationship or a good one, it needs to be resolved in a good way.
On the path to enlightenment, there is no such thing as good or bad relationships.
Just as there are no good dreams or bad dreams when you wake up from a dream,

It doesn't matter whether your dream comes true or not.
If you don't suffer while running towards your dream, it is a true dream that will develop your abilities. If you suffer, it is nothing more than a vain desire.

It means that good and foolish people can cause chaos in the world without their consent, so be careful.
You must become wise.
You have to come out of your own well.

There are many cases where we remember something as hurtful when it wasn't, or we hold on to something that happened in the past and can't let go, causing us pain.
If there's a problem, it's that you keep replaying past memories in your head.

Humans are inherently selfish beings.
There is a fundamental selfishness in our hearts.
Only when we see through and acknowledge that essence can we truly build a proper relationship.
If you see yourself clearly, others will be able to see you clearly too.
When I admit that I am selfish, I can acknowledge the selfishness of others.

If you know that the world doesn't always go the way you want it to, and that even if things go your way, not everything will be good, you won't be upset when things don't go your way.

My dream is to create a community where people have a life attitude that benefits both themselves and others.

If you can renew your mind every day, every day is a new day.

The path to happiness is awareness.
When you become aware that a desire is arising, it is not a question of pursuing or suppressing the desire, but of becoming free from that desire.

If you are satisfied with this moment, you can become happy right away.
You can be happy right here, right now.
Happiness and freedom are right here, right now, with us.

It is said that the highest level of practice is to change shape and adapt to given conditions, like water, which has no set shape.
Because this is only possible when you let go of your stubbornness and let go of yourself.

Quitting your job now is not the solution to your problem.
First, you need to take a good look at yourself, the person who is mistakenly thinking that this suffering is caused by work.

When it's time to close your eyes, it doesn't matter whether you ate rice or barley that evening.
We often live foolish lives, obsessing over useless things and missing out on what's truly important, tormenting ourselves and hurting others.
If you can maintain the perspective you have when you close your eyes in your daily life, you can live comfortably.
Aren't you missing out on what's most important right now because you're so caught up in the little things?

I am awake every moment, whether I am cleaning, eating, or walking.
Live a life fully awake in this moment.

Hatred does not arise from love, but from wanting to be loved.

Repentance is not about judging your and my mistakes, but about realizing that there is no right or wrong.

We draw a picture of the other person as we like and then criticize the other person for being different from the picture.
The illusion of the mind that prevents us from seeing things as they are makes us all suffer.

Look at your life with a curious mind.
Whatever I do, I try to do it with a fresh mind and with all my heart as if I am doing it for the first time.

The reason why doing good things is painful is because we are attached to them.
If something good happens, I will do it first and if someone asks, I will tell them.
Just because something looks good to me doesn't mean I have to follow it.
