Into the book
It's really strange.
I always thought I was lacking because I didn't try hard enough.
So I always tried my best to make an effort.
I imagine that if I fill in what's missing, I'll be perfect someday.
But the moment I heard my husband's words, I realized something.
I'm already good enough, and I need you to do better for me.
---p.13

It's okay to have bad days sometimes.
---p.19

I'm not a weird person.
I'm just an incredibly sensitive person.
After being exposed to a stimulus, you definitely need a rest period.
Come to think of it, when I was young, I often heard people say I was a unique kid.
It's probably like that now and it will probably be like that in the future.
---p.21

You must be more affectionate to yourself than anyone else.
Because you are doing the best you can.
---p.26

Let's practice.
Rather than being harshly self-critical, let's practice being kind to ourselves and expressing gratitude.
---p.39

It's okay to put things off sometimes.
Let's go at our own pace.
---p.43

It's okay to live a life that others don't understand.

---p.71

Don't try to be loved by everyone.
Honestly, you don't like everyone either.

---p.72

So I thought about it.
What helped me grow.
Chasing your dreams.
Don't waste time wallowing in self-pity.
Breaking off harmful relationships.
Trust my gut.

---p.79

Let's leave alone what I can't change.
Let's say no to things we don't like.
Just love me no matter who I am.
---p.95

Publisher's Review
Recover edition released to commemorate the reprint!

Hyesoo Lee, an illustrator, muralist, and cartoonist based in New York, presents her delightful, honest, and cheeky self-care cartoon essay, "Self Love Club," in a warm new color.
This recover edition of the book, which received a flood of praise from readers after its publication, was created to commemorate the reprinting. Unlike the original lavender cover, it was printed in a bright and lively neon orange as a special color to express the self that shines like a rainbow.
The back cover features an illustration of 'ME TIME' that was not previously available in the book. The twelve illustrations of tips to make me more myself are so cute and lovely.
Additionally, when you open the cover, the original cover is also included, allowing you to fully enjoy the beautiful illustrations.

A difficult but worthwhile journey, a joyful festival of self-acceptance.
You are invited to the ‘Self Love Club’.

We know too well in our heads how to manage and care for ourselves.
Taking time to recharge, finding work-life balance, building strong relationships that support each other, and diligently taking care of your physical and mental health…
But it is never easy to keep it in real life.

We want to be better than yesterday.
But people around me seem to have much better lives than I do, and on social media it seems like everyone is happy except me.
So, I am caught in a whirlpool of anxiety, and I have a hard time getting through each day because I have no confidence in my own existence.
Author Lee Hye-su, who wrote this book, has also struggled with these anxieties and worries for a long time.
In my 20s, I moved to the United States to pursue my dreams, but I struggled to find recognition in a foreign land and to have a voice in my career.
I always tried to respond to the other person's suggestions, tried to hide my English accent, and tried to make up for my shortcomings and become perfect.
But at some point I realized.
That they don't ultimately take her where she wants to go.

Author Lee Hye-su decided not to take other people's demands for her at face value.
I stopped trying to be perfect based on other people's standards.
And then what she discovered was liberation and joy.
I became much happier after wearing the clothes I wanted, not what others wanted, and shaving my head to defy the stereotype that long, flowing hair was feminine.
The author now says that resting is also a very productive activity, and he always collapses on the sofa when he needs to.
Sometimes, I tell them to just laze around for a day, eat whatever they want, and practice being kind to themselves and expressing gratitude rather than being harshly self-critical.
And the author shares with us this journey of self-care in the small details of everyday life through the book, “Self-Love Club.”

Bright yet not light, this book is filled with honesty that confronts life's challenges without fear. The author's words of comfort, combined with the energy emanating from the witty illustrations, give us courage.
This gem of a book reminds us to love ourselves through good times and bad, and it's just the little encouragement we need.
