Into the book
Most of our anxiety and depression about the future comes from worrying about money.
There is nothing more painful than doing what you want to do but not making money.
I know better than anyone else.
Just by not worrying about money for the rest of your life, you can solve one of life's biggest problems at once.
Instead, you can use that time to do something creative.
The reason I was able to be indifferent to money before I turned thirty-eight was because I had never really had any.
I distanced myself from money before I even had enough of it.
People who are called 'golden spoons' know that money is good.
From a young age, they learn through positive experiences how important and necessary money is.
It's truly a blessing to have such a great starting point for becoming friendly with money.
So I want to tell my friends who were like me before, who never had money and never really learned about money from anyone.
“Now let’s smile and say that money is good.”
Because money is a really good thing and it can make us more ourselves.
--- pp.8~9
If an ordinary office worker wants to become a millionaire, he or she must know how to give up quickly in some areas.
I started studying money less than two years ago, earning a monthly salary of 2 million won after tax. The reason I was able to grow so quickly was because I accepted the 'method of giving up quickly.'
I gave up my apartment in Seoul as my first home.
An apartment in Seoul that everyone wants.
Especially when purchasing your first home, there are many benefits such as subscription and loans, and above all, it is very important to secure a 'smart home'.
But for me, who started to take an interest in money after I turned 38 and whose entire assets were a deposit of about 30 million won, an apartment in Seoul was an impossible dream.
For a poor freelancer with an annual income of 4.8 million won and no intention of getting married, subscriptions or loans had little meaning.
As the saying goes, "If your dream gets too long, it becomes a nightmare," I decided that rather than dedicating the rest of my life to an apartment in Seoul, it would be better to give up quickly and find another way.
--- pp.25~26
From Korean stocks to US stocks, from KOSPI to KONEX, from coins to art, even funding for Rolex watches... I've invested in everything that seemed like it would make money, but my favorite investment strategy is frugal investing.
Because it is the easiest, fastest, safest and simplest way to make money.
As you know, stocks offer higher returns than bank deposits, but it is difficult to guarantee the principal.
What about coin volatility? The higher the mountain, the deeper the valley.
The reason high returns are possible is because high risks were taken.
If you want to invest in stocks, coins, or art, you have to study a lot.
Real estate investing requires not only keeping up with ever-changing real estate laws and tax laws, but also a lot of legwork.
--- pp.65~66
You might say, “How can you live so rigidly?” But if you’ve found something you truly love or have a goal, you won’t be distracted by the little pleasures anymore.
Choices like what to eat in the morning, what clothes to wear, and what accessories to wear don't bring me much joy.
At that time, it is more valuable to me to think about what to write or what book to read today.
Everyone has their own joy and happiness, and for me, it is writing and reading books.
My wish for this year is to keep everything else simple so I can focus more on my little joys and happiness.
If you think about it, life may seem complicated, but it's actually quite simple.
Simple is never boring.
--- pp.113~114
Studying money brought about a big change in my relationships.
Rather than breaking away from previous relationships and moving into entirely new ones, the circle of people you can call friends has expanded.
My interest in money and the economic newspaper I read every morning broadened my horizons.
It's a joy and a wonder that we can now meet people of all ages, genders, and occupations and engage in conversations tailored to their interests.
--- pp.134~135
Investing shouldn't be thought of in the short term.
Even if you're lucky and make a lot of money in a short period of time, it's more important to maintain it in the long run, whether it's investing or your own work.
Sometimes I meet people who are wealthy in the real estate business, and they say that money grows on its own with time.
I think it's all about knowing the skills of investing and putting in enough time.
You have to invest with your spare money to survive during that time.
If you look around, you'll see people blindly pouring all their money into investments.
Because I am anxious, I become more and more anxious, and that anxiety has a negative effect on me and those around me.
Then, naturally, kindness towards others also collapses.
As we live, there are times when we waver without realizing it, but we need a strong mind to look at the long term and pull ourselves together.
Because luck and timing are things that can always be caught by someone who is prepared.
--- pp.208~209
Immerse yourself in what you want to do.
Researching new ways to do it better every time.
Making money with it and making a living from it.
For that reason, maintaining a good mood is very important.
I protect myself from being exposed to too much information and news, and avoid falling prey to negative thoughts and words. Ultimately, I try to remember that maintaining my own good mood protects the moods of those around me and my bank balance.

Publisher's Review
Your Don Seju is back in 2022!
"This is a special financial prescription for becoming friends with money."
Savings, frugal tech, stocks, funds, subscriptions…
If you don't know how to start or what to do,
Training to become 'money-saving' right now!
★ Recommended by Park Jin-young (CEO of economic media APTI) and Son Hyeon (author of "The Usefulness of Writing") ★
The 'money'-hating older sister is back.
Small, cute paychecks only briefly pass through your bankbook, savings disappear without a trace when they mature, and you envy the seed money your peers with similar salaries have saved up, but you don't want to live a frugal life and have resolved to start serious financial management, but you end up wavering in front of the delivery app after work. This is Kim Yan, who rolled up her sleeves to save the money 'poisons' of financial startups.
For those of you who want to get seriously involved with money this year, MZ Don Se-ju's older sister Kim Yan's financial management essay, "Solid Training," has been published by Media Changbi.
It has been two years since the publication of "Starting Today, Stronger," which depicts the journey of changing an annual income of 4.8 million won to a monthly income of 4.8 million won.
In the summer of 2019, Kim Yan visited a bank in Bucheon to buy a small villa. She received the shocking news that she was denied a loan. She decided to end her misguided relationship with money.
Realizing that money is not simply about buying and selling things, but about buying opportunities and leisure, I realized the need for financial management and improved my habits.
Kim Yan, back after two years, shares her practical experience of making money by diving headfirst into everyday financial investment.
“The biggest thing I learned while studying and earning money was that ‘money is such a good thing.’
I can see the show I want, where I want, and sometimes even buy tickets for my friends.
No, leaving aside such simple matters, money made me independent and free.
“It allowed me to fill 24 hours with whatever I wanted, and it taught me that being the master of my time means being the master of my life.”
(From the Prologue)
Let's follow Kim Yan's golden run, as she began studying money in her late 30s and now, in her 40s, is on the fast track to wealth growth and life success.
“Now let’s smile and say that money is good.”
Let's take a shortcut to building basic financial strength along with life stamina!
『Solid Training』 is composed of three chapters.
Chapter 1 is about training to become friendly with money and deals with 'the happiness that money can buy.'
An ordinary office worker who has been studying money for less than two years and earns a monthly salary of 2 million won after tax was able to grow significantly because he accepted the 'method of giving up quickly' and solidified the foundation of a pipeline where income comes in automatically just by breathing through N-job.
The first thing Kim Yan gave up was the unaffordable Seoul apartment.
Instead, I worked in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province for six months.
I was able to buy my first home in a hurry thanks to meeting a real estate agent I got along with and learning how to find a good home and the concept of a quick sale for less than market price.
The next thing I gave up on was 'My Room'.
He ate, slept, and lived in the living room, and rented out all three rooms to his three housemates to generate income.
After giving up small and big pleasures like buying coffee after lunch and enduring for exactly six months, many things changed, not just my bank account balance.
First, we now have clear guidelines for where to spend money and where not to. Second, we have people who support and wait for this change. Third, we can distinguish between what we can and cannot give up.
There are things you can never do alone
There's no problem if you're with rich and strange Kim Yan.
Chapter 2 talks about 'happiness that money can't buy' through training that grows with money.
One day, after reaching a monthly income of 10 million won, Kim Yan thought that if he continued on this path, he might be able to earn his goal of 1 billion won within the next five years.
At the same time, I decided that I couldn't continue living like this, looking only at target assets.
The reason I tried to fix my relationship with money was to 'do what I wanted to do', not because I wanted to chase after the amount of money and miss out on doing what I wanted to do and living my own life.
Money can buy happiness, but there is certainly happiness that money cannot buy.
It's time to figure out what you really want and re-evaluate the direction of your life.
This also means that investing is not limited to money, but its meaning expands to include pouring time and effort into real life, such as career, relationships, and hobbies.
So, Kim Yan decided to quit dentistry after two years and take a new step towards freedom.
Once you start moving and taking things lightly, it's only a matter of time before your life changes.
“Consistently paying attention to what I like, trying new hobbies, going to unfamiliar places or eating foods I’ve never tried before, writing down a short diary entry for the day in a notebook, and quickly covering myself with a blanket and going to sleep are all examples of putting my thoughts into action.
When we talk about our lives, it's convenient not to worry too much about other people's standards and evaluations.
Let's make our own plans and become healthy, energetic people who are content with the success and happiness we define for ourselves."
(From "Let's Start Easy")
Life hacks from those who have walked the path before.
Interviews with 15 Money Friends Who Can Help You Ease Anxiety and Look Forward to Tomorrow
Chapter 3 contains interviews with ordinary wealthy people around us who are growing little by little every day, enjoying the present to the fullest, and preparing for their upcoming heyday.
Kim Yan's mentor, JHK, who first introduced her to stocks, reminds her of the importance of labor income through her work rather than investment income.
Jeong Eun-gil, who steadily saved up 100 million won in seed money in her 20s, says that frugal tech is not just a means of saving money, but a habit that builds confidence in money.
Kim Kyung-hee, the professional manager of Okiro Books, a small bookstore, began planning various gatherings in her favorite space with the hope that books, colleagues, and customers would all do well.
This soon led to the differentiation of being a 'bookstore that sells growth', and resulted in six consecutive years of profit.
Park Jin-young founded the economic media company Apti after realizing the need for money-related content for women aged 25-34, and has since amassed 200,000 subscribers.
In addition, the vivid voices of 15 money friends by keyword, such as side jobs, household accounts, and real estate, were included in 'Money Interview'.
The stories of those who have amassed such achievable wealth show that a life of leisure is never far away.
Money returns with greater interest when it is earned together rather than alone.
Studying money isn't just about learning about the sums of money; it's a process of building understanding of various social classes, including myself and others. Sharing that experience is a stepping stone to a bright future with my precious friends.
In the context of 'money' and 'what I want to do', the story of the older sister who became stronger from 'Starting Today' to 'Strong Training' makes us think again about what truly enriches our lives.
If you think about it, maybe money luck isn't something you're born with, but something you create yourself.
I hope that the readers of this book will have a year filled with prosperity and good fortune.
To do what I want to do, to make myself my own, let's start today and work together for a stronger day!
