Publisher's Review
To mark the 100th anniversary of the premiere of “The Phoenix,”
From the early works that caused a big stir
Even later works that were not easily accessible
Stravinsky's major works
Meet the two albums.

The only musician who can compare to Picasso,
The Life and Music of Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky

Phono, which has been consistently publishing biographies of musicians in the 'Musicians We Love' series, introduces another special musician.
The ninth figure in the series is the great modern musician Igor Fedorovich Stravinsky.
He emerged in the early 20th century with groundbreaking works, and turned the Parisian cultural world upside down with the premiere of "The Rite of Spring" on May 29, 1913. From then on, he opened a new chapter in modern music with his unfamiliar and powerful music.
Although it is a familiar name to many classical music lovers, the number of works or related books available to them is relatively small.
Although this book is not very long, it faithfully captures Stravinsky's life and music, and provides detailed explanations of not only his notable early works but also his diverse middle and late works. The two included albums allow readers to listen to the music themselves, making it a welcome gift for those curious about Stravinsky's works or those who want to encounter early modern music.
Above all, what makes his music special is its experimental spirit and dynamism that cannot be defined in one word.
From the Russian nationalism influenced by his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov to the rigorous yet lucid neoclassicism and later serialism, few modern composers have consistently produced high-quality works across such a wide range of fields and achieved such success as Stravinsky.
Although he was criticized for plagiarizing other composers' music, his creativity and genius in taking any music and making it his own were widely praised.
He was friends not only with musicians but also with Sergei Diaghilev, Leonid Massine, Leon Bakst, Vaclav Nijinsky and Pablo Picasso, Coco Chanel, André Gide, T.
He also created a richer contemporary art world through collaborations with artists such as S. Eliot.
Picasso, with whom he collaborated on many works, is a figure comparable to Stravinsky in terms of his groundbreaking creativity and unwavering passion.
In particular, this book comprehensively covers the music Stravinsky created from his twenties until his death in his eighties, providing an opportunity to fully understand his works.
The appendix includes a glossary of terms to help readers easily understand Stravinsky's music, as well as a comparative chronology that examines the history, culture, and arts of Stravinsky's era, allowing readers to encounter Stravinsky in a more familiar way.
In addition, listening to the music conducted by Robert Kraft, a Stravinsky expert who was always by Stravinsky's side and wrote several books about him, and the music performed by star tenor Ian Bostridge, who received a doctorate in history from Cambridge University, and the Philharmonia and London Symphony Orchestras, representing Britain, you will be able to feel the freshness of his music a hundred years after the premiere of "The Rite of Spring."
