Book Introduction
Yoo Young-goo, a businessman and social activist
An excuse for a life lived like a joke

An autobiographical essay by Yoo Young-gu, former chairman of Myongji Academy and KBO commissioner.
Living a life full of ups and downs, whenever faced with a crisis, he has comforted himself and those around him with jokes that are steeped in the depths of life.
He explains why he loves jokes:
Because jokes have empathy, comfort, and understanding for one another.
His jokes also contain philosophies such as 'keep the basics and class' and 'make the listener shine brighter', so the jokes he tells people when they need a joke must have left a significant resonance.

“There have been many twists and turns in life.
I know everyone is like that, but I was like that too.
As we went through both big and small events, we would joke around and get through those times.
“If my joke can bring even a moment of comfort to someone else, even a moment of laughter, I think about how grateful I am for that.”

“In our society, where jokes are particularly stingy, I think my jokes can be a stepping stone to understanding each other.
Or maybe it could give someone the freedom to laugh and wipe away tears when they're feeling down or exhausted.
“Life is not something to laugh about, but isn’t it impossible to imagine a life without laughter?”
