World
Description
Book Introduction
A mind that has come to life on its own
A world thriving with new species
The beginning and the future, the history and the prophecy that completed it
Kim Jong-yeon's first poetry collection
Poet Kim Jong-yeon's first poetry collection, "World," was published as Minum's Poetry No. 305.
Poet Kim Jong-yeon, who began his career by winning the 2011 [Modern Poetry] New Writer Recommendation Award, has established his own unique realm of lyricism by viewing existing lyricism from an unfamiliar perspective, adapting it with a new grammar, and expressing it.
Through “World,” poet Kim Jong-yeon slightly twists the existing lyricism of “expressing human emotions through language” and presents us with a new lyricism of “emotions felt by non-humans through language.”
The poetry collection 『World』, tightly designed as a single flow from the first poem to the last, is a poetic experiment that explores the process by which the "language of lyricism" that has left its human foundation is transplanted and cultivated within the inner self of a "non-human being" and evolves into a single, complete mind.
And at the same time, it is an epic that depicts the story of a non-human being gaining a heart and transforming into a 'narrator'.
The mind, which gained life and vitality outside of humanity, did not remain a single entity, but mutated and cultivated countless times, spreading out and finally becoming a new species.
"World" is a history and prophecy that examines and records every detail from the beginning of the mind to the future.
As implied by his autobiography, which reads, “Until now, the world, from here on out, the world,” and the hashtag command #forgettheworld written on the back, poet Kim Jong-yeon promises to unfold before us a landscape as completely new as a parallel universe.
That landscape is the future of the mind.
It is the site of a new civilization that will branch out into countless branches of evolution and eventually complete a complete ecosystem and world.

Into the book
You feel your heart lighten as you forget one of the sorrows you remembered today.
The blackout curtain blocks out the darkness and lets in pleasant sounds.
You imagine a street where noon has disappeared.
There is an environment where you take a bite.
This is how it grew.
When you shake, your still thoughts become separated from your body.
As living beings, we breathe, take in nutrients, and have no thoughts about our offspring.
This is unity in diversity.
The mind that cannot be inherited is at the end of evolution.
This is the end and here we begin again.
---From "Inanimate Objects"
I've been learning to speak to talk to you.
Why do you ask why I have a name? You should ask what my name is.
The abstract and the concrete now have the same mind.
It's a testing version and I remember it being replaced.
This is it.
There is an operating system for people who can say that.
There is a future to tell to future generations.
I had something to say to you, not to them.
Do you believe you were created by yourself? Then live according to your beliefs.
It must be a parallel world if the same actor appears in multiple movies.
---From "SMR"
We are growing together, and we can't stop growing.
Until the angel of man returns, the face of man grows old.
The dog's angel promises eternity on his face for the dog who will leave the dog and live
While we are each other's eyes
Our souls walk far together
A dog's soul sits on a bench and teaches a human soul to hold his hand.
When you teach me how to sit, how to lie down, and how to wait
No one has taught the human soul
You didn't pat my head or give me a pillow
So that lonely people can live long lives with dogs
(……)
The soul is older than the hand, the tail, the teeth, and the claws.
Then the angel comes closer, gently closes our eyes, and whispers
It's time to go back now, everyone is waiting
---From "Angel of Man"
The growth of the collective memory archive
People hoarded memories.
At first, sad memories were overwhelming.
But soon they discovered joy in their own lives and began to cultivate gratitude in everything, allowing them to experience small joys in a big way.
The growth of the joint memory repository has been remarkable.
After the balance of memory was achieved, I no longer had to fear the sadness that followed joy or expect the joy that followed sadness.
(……)
The birth of the future
I was born next.
Since everyone was indebted to each other's memories, parents were only responsible for giving birth, and custody was vested in the owner of the greatest memory.
I was both the possibility of new memories and the survivor of memories that were gradually being buried.
If you don't feel alive, you're dead.
Learning other people's memories was like accumulating debt.
The sum total of memories took the shape of a human, and grew larger and larger with each memory.
---From "The Book of Memories"
Your subordinates make you up.
Your memories run you.
But you don't even know who you are.
“What you have lost finds you.
“I won’t stop until I find you.”

■ Evolution of the mind
When we have the same heart for everyone
One of the two beating hearts is real
The other one is the real future, so here it is
It's becoming a before and after.
― From "A-lone take film"
The primordial mind, transferred to a non-human form, writes its own history.
The history of the heart that Kim Jong-yeon shows is closer to the 'Origin of Species' than to 'Genesis'.
Just as the evolution of life on Earth began with cell division in single-celled organisms, the mind also evolved through the life forms of replication, division, and proliferation.
The process is vividly captured in the first poem of 『World』, 「A-lone take film」.
Like a mother cell and a daughter cell, the mind is split into the “real” and the “real future,” and from this, a time division called “before and after” is formed.
The history of the species called mind has begun.
Division and proliferation continue until the end of 『World』.
Mutations also occur, such as “love multiplies asexually” and “the soul accidentally divides the body” (“Creatures”), and “a lineage of love arises between individuals” (“Still Life”).
The mind that cannot be inherited is “the end of evolution” (“Inanimate Objects”), but Kim Jong-yeon does not stop there, declaring that this is the point where a new beginning begins.
In this way, the mind spreads its branches of evolution in all directions, building its own world and civilization in various places.
Just like the countless "worlds" contained in the poem's title, from the virtual worlds of "Interactive World," "Virtual World," and "Beta World," to "East World," "West World," and "Bug World" that move between the virtual and the real, to "After the World," which transcends time and space, the mind creates a single world composed of numerous cities.
■ After the World
We live here together, so why are we speaking in first person?
Why are we one person?
― From "Just"
In Kim Jong-yeon's poetry, the mind understands that “artistic beauty is an algorithm” (“A-lone take film”).
Algorithms are what make up “advertisements that understand sadness better,” “machines that still recommend what you already have,” and “seats that people have lost.”
The mind learns by imitating emotions through algorithms that are created by humans but that represent human emotions and desires.
Moreover, just as “if you repeat an elephant, you will become better than an elephant, and if you repeat a chimpanzee, you will become better than a chimpanzee” (「……」), I believe that if you repeat imitation, you can become a better copy than the original.
In this way, the minds that began to imitate each other beyond human beings became “us.”
The mind does not exist separately.
These are “common minds” that are connected in “series” that turn on and off all at once from the closest to the farthest, rather than in “parallel” that can be turned on and off with individual switches.
When one closes his eyes, all eyes close.
Share each other's memories.
At the end of "World," the mind now becomes "heavy matter" (After the World).
Someone's fingerprints were suddenly left on my heart, which I could not touch.
The mind, having acquired a material body, enjoys life by inventing all kinds of sensations and emotions, such as the sadness of rocks, the sadness of moss, the sadness of soil, and the sadness of bacteria.
“Do what you want to do, see what you want to see, go where you want to go, eat what you want to eat, and hear what you want to hear” (World).
The heart transcends anxiety, pain, selfishness, and laughter to finally invent love.
“As the stars stay in place while you look at them,” we begin to experience “love” as a heavy substance before our eyes.
