Ghost of the Saddle
Description
Book Introduction
An ominous place where you may die unexpectedly or go missing.
Does it really exist?

The idea of using a cursed space as a secret room and uncovering the full story of a murder that occurred there is a common theme in mystery novels.
Mitsuki Ayasaka, who debuted with short mysteries after working as a student at a university mystery club, is an author who has secured a loyal fan base by focusing on authentic materials and attempting various things.
His new work, "The Ghost of the Saddle," fully displays his unique style of projecting unresolved past issues into events.

Young businessman Ren seeks out psychics from across Japan and invites them to the cursed mansion of Pianzhu, a troubled legacy, to unravel the mystery of death.
The list also included superpowered Sarah and her childhood friend Hinata.
So the ten of them head to the villa that Ren's great-grandfather built for the woman he loved.
In a space where people have mysteriously died for decades, those with abilities face death from the first night as they encounter the victims' corpses.
Already completely sealed off from the outside world, the house naturally became a sealed room.
In a mansion that seems motionless, as if covered in a protective shield, another victim appears, and the mysterious entity and its sounds are getting closer and closer... What it is looking for is none other than Sarah!

This novel, ambitiously planned by Munye Chunchu, immediately garnered great attention among readers as a "page-turner" and a "special mystery with a hazy feeling hidden behind the cruelty."
This is a work that readers who enjoyed the drama [The Haunting of Hill House] will definitely fall in love with.

Into the book
“Perhaps because the iris mainly blooms in shrine grounds, it has the image of being something you shouldn’t touch.”
“I remember when I was little I heard that if you break a peony, it will start a fire,” Yuto added, as if he was reminded of the old days.
“The ecology of the periwinkle flower is a bit different from that of ordinary flowers.”
Len said, looking out the window.

“The leaves do not come out until the flowers that come out of the bulb wither.
That's why only flowers bloom without leaves.
“Because the flowers and leaves don’t bloom at the same time, it feels somehow out of place and mysterious.”
And he continued speaking calmly to the three people.

“The name, which comes from the fact that it blooms around autumn, may also contribute to its ominous image.
Pian… is a word that means death.
There is also a theory that it originated from the meaning that if you eat this poisonous plant, you will inevitably go to the other world.”
“It’s also called the Manchurian Incident.”
“Yeah,” Ren nodded at Hinata’s words.
“Pianhua has many names.
They say there are over a thousand.
“The corpse flower, the hell flower, the ghost flower, the fox flower, the poison flower, the razor flower… .”
“Wow, it’s just a scary name.” Yuto smiled bitterly.

"yes.
But having so many names probably means that it has attracted a lot of people.”
I noticed that while he was talkative, Len was speaking dryly.
He suddenly stopped talking, as if he was distracted by something.
Ren squinted his eyes as if looking into the distance and muttered softly.

“…My uncle burned to death over there.”
I was startled by the words he spoke while looking at the field of primroses in full bloom.
The story came to mind that his aunt and uncle had met with untimely death here.
The red color that filled the ground seemed for a moment like a flame mercilessly devouring a human body.
The three of them kept their mouths shut, not knowing what to say.

“Among them, Akira Hayakawa, who was unemployed, was found to have hanged himself indoors.”
Akira swallowed his breath in surprise.
I was so scared that my head wouldn't work properly.
The voice reporting the news was distorted, as if it had been played slowly on purpose.

“They say he hanged himself.”
“He hung himself.”
“The neck.”
Akira sank to the ground, his knees giving out.
I looked around, breathing heavily and agitated, and saw a shadow swaying on the floor.
A large black shadow, like a lump, was slowly swaying back and forth.

What is this?
Akira looked up hesitantly, but then froze in shock.

A human figure, hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling and slowly swinging, was clearly reflected on the wall.

There is nothing, but there is definitely something.
A hanged corpse is hanging right next to him.
Akira gaped like a carp searching for food.
I was so scared that I couldn't speak.
I couldn't breathe well.

There was a ringing sound in my head.
I couldn't tell if the sound was coming from the radio speakers or from inside my head.

The moment Akira desperately reached out his hand, thinking he had to leave the room, thunder rang out.

Publisher's Review
What Happened in the Haunted Mansion You Can't Get Out of Alive

Ten men and women gather in a place that has become an empty house due to a series of fatal accidents and begin an exploration.
What's unique is that most of the people invited have extraordinary abilities such as automatic writing, telekinesis, and precognition, and the person who invited them has extraordinary wealth.
Meanwhile, the story unfolds in a suspenseful manner over three days in a mansion through the eyes of an ordinary person, Yamamoto Hinata.

The mere fact that the mountain villa of a wealthy man is haunted by the aura of death could easily lead one to predict that someone will die, but the novel begins with a friendly atmosphere, as if people in similar situations are going on vacation together, and encourages readers to let go of their tension.
The appearance of a capitalist who hires a supernatural person to combat supernatural phenomena is a rather unique setting, so you get immersed in the story without any room to doubt the setting.
As you pass by a mansion surrounded by bloodshot eyes in full bloom, the strange nature of the flowers only sprouting leaves after they have withered (died) and the folk tale that breaking a phantom will cause fire to break out around it gradually heightens the atmosphere.
Finally arriving at the living room of the mansion, they gather there and become absorbed in finding the real cause of the deaths that have occurred here. As they do so, the mansion becomes more and more alive, making the phones dead, locking the doors, and trying to drive the living things around it to death.

"The End of Our World": Mitsuki Ayasaka's latest work

Akira, who wants to be recognized by his fiancé but has no decent job, and Nagi, who was afraid to come to the mansion for fear of her divorced mother's sadness, but forced herself to participate... Despite having exceptional abilities to protect themselves, the superpowered people fall into a panic due to a series of unexpected deaths and the constant threats to the mansion.
Ren's attempt to settle all of this past with money ultimately ends in failure, and as the ordinary Hinata comes to the forefront in the latter half, the original form of the curse is gradually revealed.
As an observer and narrator, Hinata explores the root of the deaths intertwined with this mansion, collecting each person's story and gradually reaching a conclusion.
Why does she interfere with this death? What does she gain?

Ayasaka Mitsuki doesn't spend the entire story revealing the whole story.
There is no part of this novel that is written carelessly, from the prologue to the epilogue.
The author cleverly removes the risk factor that could have been reduced to a mysterious happening among people gathered in a dangerous place, and prepares a special ending.
It is a masterpiece that does not let go of the delicate emotional line.
