Publisher's Review
The only official Korean version of "The Giving Tree" in Korea, reborn!

The Giving Tree was first published in the United States in 1964, and an official Korean edition was published by Sigong Junior in November 2000.
And in January 2017, a newly renovated and revised edition was presented again.
The revised edition of 『The Giving Tree』 has a completely new cover.
Just as the boy carved his name and the tree's name into the tree trunk, the typography, carved with a carving knife, perfectly reflects the content and atmosphere of the work while also providing a stable and balanced beauty.
In addition, the text has been reorganized with a sophisticated sensibility, and has been reborn as a classic among classics that can be enjoyed by all generations.

The book that awakened true love all over the world!

Shel Silverstein's masterpiece, The Giving Tree, is the story of a tree that gives everything it has to a boy.
It contains blind and infinite love that expects nothing in return.
Just as the boy in the story becomes a young man and then an old man, the tree in the story shows consistent love for the readers who were children and have grown into young men and then old men for over half a century.
In this harsh reality, trees are a selfish people who do not let go of anything they have and try to take away as much as possible from others. They show us the true value of love.
And it makes us realize the happiness of giving rather than the joy of receiving.

“Hey, I’m sorry.
“I have nothing to give you now.”
“I don’t really need much anymore.
“I just wish there was a place where I could sit comfortably and rest.”
“The stump of an old tree is just the right place to sit and rest.
Hey, come here and sit down.
“Let’s sit down and rest.”
The boy did so.
So the tree was happy.

Fairy Tales for Adults and Children - Deep Truth and Emotion

"The Giving Tree" is one of those masterpieces that even adults can read without feeling out of place.
In fact, Shel Silverstein didn't start out writing children's books.
He dreamed of becoming a baseball player as a child, but realized he had no talent for baseball and began drawing and writing. In the 1950s, he served in the military in Japan and Korea and worked as a cartoonist.
The person who encouraged him to write children's books was his friend, Tomi Ungerer, a famous French illustrator.
And thus, Shel Silverstein's best-selling and most successful children's book, The Giving Tree, was born.

However, the meaning and emotions contained in the content are by no means limited to children.
Shel Silverstein's thoughts can be read in an interview with Publisher's Weekly from 1975.
“I hope that people, regardless of age, will find, realize, and experience something that can be defined in my book.” It is in a similar context that the numerous readers of The Giving Tree have interpreted the tree’s boundless, devoted love in various ways, such as the love of God, the love of parents for their children, the love between friends, or the love between neighbors.
What is clear is that this work is not limited to being a 'children's fairy tale', but conveys profound truth and emotion to people of all ages.
