Meanwhile, with COVID-19 sweeping the globe and the global environment severely damaged, our society is facing ever-more rapid and diverse changes.
The language we use is also changing more quickly and more diversely.
The same goes for education.
According to the '2022 Revised Curriculum' announced by the Ministry of Education, revisions to elementary school textbooks will begin in 2024, and digital textbooks will be introduced to elementary school classes starting in 2025.
To address this digitalization of education, we are increasing Korean language classes for lower grades by 34 hours to develop basic literacy and Korean decoding skills.


In this digitalization of education, the "Bori Korean Dictionary" takes full advantage of the advantages of a paper dictionary, allowing children to experience the joy of learning Korean by looking up each word.
In the third revised edition, we filtered out old and difficult words that are not often used in daily life and added new words to better meet the children's level.
To help you understand the meaning of words at a glance, we've provided definitions for the same words as for basic vocabulary, and we've included over 4,000 visual aids, including beautiful, vivid illustrations, diagrams, explanatory drawings, and photos, all containing accurate information.

□ Over 40,000 new words reflecting the 2022 revised curriculum!
It contains the largest number of Korean words among elementary Korean dictionaries, helping to improve vocabulary.

In accordance with the 2022 revised curriculum announced by the Ministry of Education, we have reviewed and reflected the new vocabulary in the 1st and 2nd grade textbooks that will be published in 2024.
With approximately 40,000 words, it is the largest among the elementary Korean dictionaries available as of March 2025.
We plan to actively incorporate new vocabulary into the new textbooks for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6, which will be published in 2025 and 2026, as soon as they are released.


□ Quickly reflects information from the National Institute of the Korean Language, laws, government departments, and administrative districts.

It reflects the information revisions announced by the National Institute of the Korean Language every quarter, changes in spacing, and additions to titles announced periodically.
In 2021, all cultural heritage designation numbers were deleted in accordance with the revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, and in 2024, with the enforcement of the National Basic Heritage Act, the former ‘Cultural Heritage Administration’ was changed to the ‘National Heritage Administration,’ and the ‘cultural heritage’ was also divided into ‘cultural heritage,’ ‘intangible heritage,’ and ‘natural heritage,’ and the information was changed.
As the "Bori Korean Dictionary" is a book that contains a lot of our traditional culture, we have reviewed and revised all related words and information.
In 2020, in response to the COVID-19 era, the 'Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention' was upgraded to the 'Disease Control and Prevention Agency', and the launch of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province in 2023 and Jeollabuk-do Special Self-Governing Province in 2024 were also immediately reflected and added as new terms.

We showed our people's traditional culture and lifestyle, including plants and animals, in detail, along with explanations.
The diverse and beautiful details keep drawing your attention, so you can learn a variety of words naturally while enjoying the book like a picture book, without having to look up the meanings of the words you need and put them down right away.
This revised edition adds illustrations to explain mathematical terms, and figures and constellations have been redrawn accurately and neatly.


□ A dictionary that uses spoken language to explain concepts in the simplest possible way so that children can look them up and understand the meaning on their own!

No matter how important or meaningful a word is, if its meaning is difficult to interpret, children will have a hard time understanding it.
So, the 《Bori Korean Dictionary》 was written in an easy-to-understand way, avoiding Chinese characters and foreign words as much as possible and using Korean spoken language so that even a third grader can read and understand it on their own.
Through simple and elegant Korean language explanations, children can become more familiar with the Korean language and gain confidence in using it in their daily lives.


□ To make it more convenient for readers, we reflect readers' opinions.

Until the previous 2nd revision, if there were multiple words with the same meaning, only the basic word was given an explanation, and for the remaining words, arrows were used to guide users to find the basic word.
However, many readers have expressed that this process is cumbersome, so in this revised edition, explanations are provided for each identical word so that the meaning can be understood immediately.
We also took into account the suggestion that the names of major countries should be included in the Olympics, so we have simplified the names of major countries into Olympics terms, and more detailed information can be found in the 'Country Information' section at the back.
