Into the book
A fluffy green carpet unfolded outside the drone window.
The river that meandered through it was the Amazon River, the widest river in the world.
It was surprising that while it was still midwinter in Korea, the Brazilian rainforest was experiencing hot summer weather.
It was only a few hours by plane, but the seasons were different, so it felt like time travel.
Eunsil couldn't take her eyes off the window, as she was fascinated by the huge forest she was seeing for the first time.

“We’re going to land now.
Everyone, hold on tight!”
--- p.9

Larissa looked at Riho with wide eyes.
Seriously, this is the first time I've seen someone so transparent.
I never imagined I would come all the way to Brazil and meet a kid like that… … .
A sigh escaped me.

--- p.14

We followed the teacher and descended to the ground on the automatic ladder connected to the walkway, and for a moment we were speechless.
Because the burned forest was so terrible.
The fire was so big that there wasn't a single tree left untouched.
It was difficult to walk because of the half-burnt trees that had fallen here and there.
On the ashen ground, the corpses of animals that had not been able to escape the fire were turned into black lumps.
I almost cried when I saw the completely destroyed Amazon forest.

--- pp.16~17

The rain didn't seem like it would stop anytime soon.
If the sun set like this, it would be a disaster.
I had to quickly find a place to escape the rain.
Since the hyperphone was dead, the teacher took out a paper map and looked at it.
The teacher, who had raised his head after a long time, spoke with a dark face.

“It would take three hours to get to the airstrip through the forest.”
--- p.25

“Seorim, is Eunsil just a normal cat? What would she be thinking?
“Let’s wait and see.”

Riho's brown eyes remained unwavering.
It seemed like he trusted Eun-sil more than me.
Thanks to those firm eyes, my worries were slightly reduced.

--- p.26

“But Auntie, that town is so creepy.
“Your aunt knows too.”
“What do you mean, it’s creepy?”

Larissa looked at the teacher and spoke in a small voice.

“There is a legend in that village that has been passed down since ancient times.
There's a monster that eats people in the northern forest.
There have also been rumors of people disappearing from the village recently.
“Isn’t it too scary?”
--- p.32

“Ugh, it feels so bad here.
“Let’s go quickly.”

Larissa walked quickly, her brow furrowed.
This time, I felt the same way as Larissa.
We hurried past a colony of bug-catcher plants.
I walked briskly, but it was starting to get dark.
From somewhere, an owl's cry was heard, "Boohoo, boohoo."

--- p.37

"Are there still Amazonian natives these days? Am I in so much pain that I'm having hallucinations? Am I going to die like this?"

But I couldn't continue thinking any further.
Soon my vision went dark and I lost consciousness as I had a vision of Amazonian natives swarming around me.

--- p.41

Lee Ho's eyes turned red and his voice began to tremble.
It seemed like he didn't even remember how much danger I had put him in.
I'm so grateful and sorry to Riho that my throat feels a little choked up.
I quickly cleared my throat.

“If that bothers you, just win the kendo competition.
I'll cheer you on really loudly!”
--- p.48

At that moment, a loud knocking sound was heard on the door.
When Larissa opened the door, Mr. Gonzalez stood there with a pale face.
The man looked back and forth between Larissa and me and then spoke in a trembling voice.

“Liho… has disappeared.”
--- p.58

'Why Riho? That can't be possible.
'There's definitely something wrong.'

My heart felt like it was going to burst, but I couldn't stop walking.
I let out a ragged breath and opened the door to Riho's room.
In the small room, there was only an empty bed and a few clothes scattered around, but Riho was nowhere to be found.

--- p.59

'Five people, including Riho, have disappeared.
And all of them are teenage boys.
This is not a simple missing person case.
Could it be that someone is deliberately targeting only boys? But who, and for what reason?

As the questions continued, goosebumps ran through my body.
Lee Ho could be in very dangerous danger right now.
Besides, the police won't be here until late in the afternoon when the walkway is being repaired.
I couldn't just sit back and do nothing all this time.
My heart became impatient.

--- p.66

“Look carefully, this is not a snake.
It's a tree called 'Devil's Stairs'.
The name is scary, but there are no poison thorns.
“He’s a good guy.”

Larissa spoke with an indifferent expression and approached another tree.

“Wow, there are camu camu berries.
“I was thirsty, so this is good.”

Larissa picked some red berries from the tree and offered them to me.

--- p.91

My hair stood on end.
That was when.
“Nyayaaaa!” Eunsil’s high-pitched, sharp cry was heard.
When I looked back, Eunsil was struggling, caught in something.
“Oh my god, what the hell is that?”
--- pp.95-96

“No matter how much I think about it, I think the forest changed like this… from that day on.”
“That day?”

Grandfather frowned as if he was having trouble recalling the memory.
The story my grandfather told me was shocking.

--- p.111

“Hey, buddy? You mean me?”
“Well, we’re friends.
A friend who survived a near-death experience with me.
So, please take care of me until we get out of the forest, Lee Seo-rim.”
--- p.115

“That’s a toco toucan.
It is one of the largest of the toucans.
“I thought there were no other animals in the northern forest, but it looks like the birds managed to escape.”

It was nice to see that not all the animals had disappeared, but that bird had taken away our precious water.
As if that wasn't enough, the Tokotukan came back and targeted the grandfather's backpack.
The old man might have been hurt by the bird's strong beak.

I shouted at my grandfather with all my might.

“Grandpa, give me that backpack right now!”
--- p.121

“Huh? It’s water, water!”

To my surprise, water gushed out from the branches.
Although it was lukewarm, it was definitely clear water.
It was sweeter and more delicious than any drink I've ever had.
While Larissa cut another branch and drank water, I also shared water with Grandpa and Eunsil.

"amazing.
“There are all kinds of trees with water coming out of them?”
--- p.126

Now it was really over.
A voice was heard from inside my head, which had turned completely white.

Seorim, don't give up!

It sounded like my mother's voice, or Riho's voice.
Every time I felt blocked on all sides, I remembered how Riho would open the way by bumping into me with his whole body.
But now I didn't have the strength or courage to do that.

“Lihoya, I’m sorry.
I guess this is it for me.”
--- p.139

“Who, who are you?”

When Riho shouted in surprise, a black shadow jumped up.

“Oh, my gosh! What are you guys doing up at this hour?”

It was Teacher Morena.
The teacher, holding a solar energy flashlight and wearing microscope glasses, was looking for something with an unusual expression.
When Riho asked what he was looking for, the teacher answered with a dark face.

"Grandma Lee Seo-rim, are you ready to time travel? Then let's go."

Publisher's Review
A special treat perfect for midsummer!
The one children's book you must read this summer!
"Time Cat 5: The Burning Amazon's Revenge" is a quick read that will make you lose track of time.

The Earth is getting hotter every day, and we have the last 1.5℃ to protect!
But a suspicious aura was detected in the Amazon, the lungs of the Earth?

After returning from Switzerland's Jungfrau Mountain and heading to Manaus, a port city in the Brazilian Amazon River basin, for an environmental camp, Seorim and Eunsil encounter a shocking scene.
A massive fire of unknown cause has reduced the Amazon forest to pitch-black ash.
Half-burnt trees lying here and there, the ashen ground, and even the carcasses of animals that couldn't escape the fire...
Seorim is shocked by the sight of the Amazon forest completely destroyed.

(In the text)

The Time Cat series informs young readers of the dangers of the climate crisis and provides a glimpse into the future of the Earth based on intricate imagination and scientific knowledge.
This time, it depicts an adventure that unfolds in the Amazon, known as the 'lungs of the Earth'.
If today's climate crisis continues into the future, what will become of us? The ruthless human desire to develop forests regardless of the environment, the doom of plants that close their stomata and abandon photosynthesis due to carbon dioxide, and genetically engineered life forms may be the very future we face.

With each volume, author Park Mi-yeon presents a vivid future with more detailed settings and ingenious imagination. Through "Time Cat 5: The Burning Amazon's Counterattack," she asks the question of what we truly need to protect now through the Amazon of the future.

“There is a legend in that village that has been passed down since ancient times.”
Has Liho disappeared in a mysterious village in the burning Amazon?

While Seorim attends an environmental camp in Brazil, Riho competes in the World Junior Kendo Championships preliminaries.
Riho, who passed the preliminaries, comes to the camp with the intention of spending a vacation with Seorim.
Riho goes on a drone collection mission with Seorim and Eunsil, and Seorim and her group encounter an unexpected squall in the middle of the Amazon and suffer hardship.

“So we’re stranded here?”
My heart sank at Riho's words.
That was when.
The surroundings became dark and then a rumble of thunder rang out.
Soon heavy rain began to pour down.
I met Squall in the middle of the Amazon jungle.
(In the text)

An indigenous experience village that I happened to visit to avoid the increasingly heavy rain.
The area around this town is full of creepy carnivorous plants.
The carnivorous plant's water tank and surrounding area are full of scattered bone fragments... ... .
What exactly are these plants?

In the place Eunsil was looking at, there was a strangely shaped plant.
It was a plant that looked like a long water jug, at least 30 centimeters tall.
The dark purple spot inside the water bottle caught my eye.
Leeho smiled brightly and said, "I found Eun-sil cute, who was lowering her body and watching the plants."
“Eun-sil, are you scared?”
Liho, who was looking into the plant's water tank as he approached, suddenly screamed.
“Ugh.
“Bone, bone!”
Inside the plant's water container, there was a fairly large animal bone floating.
It seemed to be a type of insectivorous plant called the carnivorous plant.
I had heard that they eat not only insects but also small animals, but this was my first time seeing such a large carnivorous plant in person.
It was terrifying to think that if it had grown just a little bigger, it could have eaten an animal as big as Eunsil.
(In the text)

Fortunately, with the help of the people, Seorim and her group were able to spend the night in the village.
But the feeling of gratitude is short-lived, as the next morning, Riho disappears without a trace.
An old man appears in front of Seorim, who is following the traces of the missing Riho.
The grandfather, who seems to have some kind of story, repeats the name 'Diago'.
Seorim learns from her grandfather and villager Karin that boys are disappearing from the village… … .
What secrets are hidden in this suspicious village and the grandfather who cries out for 'Diago'?

The true meaning of friendship beyond borders!
Seorim and the grandmother cat Eunsil, who are trying to save Riho,
New characters and returning characters' activities

The Time Cat series adds to the fun of reading with the introduction of new characters in each volume.
This time, the appearance of Larissa, a Brazilian girl who is Seorim's rival and a K-pop fanatic, adds to the excitement.
Larissa, Seorim's camp partner, participated in the environmental camp after her aunt told her that she would send her to a K-pop concert in Korea.
But there's something off about this city girl. She blushes at the sight of Riho, then secretly gives Riho a gift and even takes the seat next to him! Furthermore, this girl, who knows the Amazon forest, its plants, and its villages better than anyone else, doesn't open up to Seorim easily.
But the relationship between Seorim and Larissa becomes more complex and interesting as time goes by… … .
What kind of story is the proud and sharp Larissa hiding?

“Larissa, you have no idea what a wonderful kid you were in school.
You scolded the bad kids who bullied the weaker kids, and you studied well too.
If I were as athletic and smart as you, I would follow you right away.
“My brother is gone, and I can’t do anything… … .” (From the text)

The story of Seorim, who fights to save Liho and the burning Amazon forest, and Eunsil, the grandmother cat who sacrifices herself at a crucial moment, becomes more exciting with each volume.
The adventure in the Amazon unfolds over five volumes, adding tension and twists as more characters and unimaginable villains constantly appear before Seorim and Eunsil.
Will Seorim and Eunsil be able to overcome all these difficulties and save Earth once again?

The fifth story in the Time Cat series, Time Cat 5: The Burning Forest's Revenge, is unique like never before.
A suspenseful adventure that will have you wanting more as you turn the pages, a unique setting you've never seen before, and the appearance of the ultimate villain will keep your palms sweating!

The one book you must read this summer: The Time Cat 5: The Burning Amazons.
I hope that readers will experience for themselves right now why they must read the children's book bestseller and steady seller series, "Time Cat."
