Reading Architecture Through the Language of Mathematics
Description
Book Introduction
This was written with the goal of creating a Math-Tour that allows people to explore the surrounding buildings and systems through a mathematical lens in places they frequently encounter in their daily lives, such as historic sites, bridges, and transportation, and understand the usefulness of mathematics.
This is because I believe that the best way to demonstrate the usefulness of mathematics without exaggeration is to have children understand and explore how mathematics is applied in their daily lives.
In this book, we looked at Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was the main palace among the five grand palaces of the Joseon Dynasty, Hwaseong Fortress and Baekje Historic Areas, which are designated as World Heritage Sites, Folk Village where you can see Hanok, Korea's traditional houses, and Dongdaemun Design Center and Sangam World Cup Stadium, which are world-famous buildings, from a mathematical perspective. In this book, we looked at Changdeokgung Palace, which is designated as World Heritage Site, the Royal Tomb of King Sejong in Yeoju where you can see the achievements of King Sejong, the first great king of the Joseon Dynasty, a long bridge that crosses the sea and makes our daily lives more convenient, road traffic that we use every day, and an astronomical observatory, which can be said to be a mecca for stargazers, from a mathematical perspective.
