Two pieces of magic sugar
Description
Book Introduction
Angry at his parents for always saying no to everything he asks, Lengken goes to a fairy and gets two pieces of magic sugar that make him shrink by half every time he says "No!"
When his parents' heights shrink to the size of a fingernail, Lengken, feeling afraid, pleads with the fairy to "give me back my parents," and the wise fairy gifts Lengken with exquisite magic to reconcile his parents.
This fairy tale, which ends with a happy relationship between parents and children, has great implications for parents as it allows them to see things from each other's perspective.

Into the book
The fairy Franziska Fragetzeikhen tapped her twelve fingers on the table, lost in thought for a moment.

"What's the problem?"

When Lengken showed curiosity, the fairy raised her eyebrows and said.

"You have to eat that sugar yourself.
Right now.
That's the only way."

"Can't you just throw it away?"

"No, I'm sorry, but I can't.
Still, it's no use.
Even if you do that, you will end up going back to the person you were assigned to.
Even if you throw it away in the ocean tens of thousands of kilometers from home, the moment you throw it away, the sugar ends up in your mom and dad's teacup.
You can understand that it's not just any ordinary sugar, right?"

Linken answered hesitantly.

"Of course.
but......
If I eat that sugar, the same thing that happened to my mom and dad will happen to me.
So does that mean I'm getting shorter and shorter?

"It can't be helped.
If......"

"What if?"

"If......
If you never disobey your mom and dad, nothing will happen.
Then it's okay.
"It's true."

"Oh, yes."

Linken remained silent for a while, and neither did the fairy.

The fairy finally shouted.

"Okay! I'll give you two sugar cubes.
Of course, it's a sugar cube that does magic.

Put it in your coffee or tea without your mom or dad noticing.
There is no pain.

From the moment you eat that sugar, every time your parents don't listen to you, you'll shrink to half your original height.

It gets halved every time.
You understand, right?"

The fairy took out two sugar cubes that looked like regular sugar cubes from a strange-looking container and pushed them towards Lengken.
Lenken said.

"Thank you.
how much is this?"
"It's free.
It's always free for first-time counselors.
But from the second time onwards, you will have to pay a heavy price," the fairy finally cried out.

Of course, that decision is yours to make right now. After so much time has passed, you can't go back to the way things were, so you'll have to continue to live that way. That happens often in life.

'I don't want to influence your decision in any way.
You have to think for yourself and make the decision you think is right.
I just wanted to tell you the truth about what's going to happen next.

Publisher's Review
Happy reconciliation through changing positions
In most families, there are conflicts between members, big or small.
How does Lengken, a girl just entering elementary school, understand this conflict? From her cognitive perspective, the logic of her parents' oppressive power is understood as a logic of "size and number."
So the child appeals to the fairy that his parents are bigger than him and that it is difficult for them to fight against him because there are only two of them.
The girl is unable to find a solution to this conflict in real space and ends up resorting to the help of magic.
But that magic comes at a high price. Ende, who must put himself in the other person's shoes, puts both parent and child through trials, and chooses a happy ending where the members reconcile.
However, even in this small piece, we can see Ende's philosophy, which believes that the problems facing modern society can be solved through the restoration of cosmic order, through works like "Momo" and "The Neverending Story."
Because, in the perception of a young girl named Lenken, the boundaries of home could be as vast a space as the vast universe.
