Description
Book Introduction
For forest philosophers and forest interpreters

This book is a philosophy of the forest that goes beyond plant taxonomy.
While Part 2 focuses on learning the names of plants, Part 1 goes over what we need to think about in the forest before learning about plants.
We ask ourselves and answer why we should recognize plants, what kind of mindset we should have in the forest, and how we should feel.

The author emphasizes that forest interpretation is not simply a matter of honing knowledge and skills about nature, but rather a task of conveying dreams and hopes to others.
I believe that it is a work that gives hope to children and youth who do not yet know what to dream of, and that it is a work that delivers warmth and comfort to those who are tired of everyday life and need healing.

Forest interpretation is a complex discipline that requires not only a comprehensive understanding of the nature of forests, but also a methodology and pedagogy for conveying the forest, and even a study of the psychological situation.
Forest interpretation is also an integrated science that brings together natural science and humanities.
You can become an ecological philosopher who can talk about life through the forest.

Publisher's Review
A journey through our trees with Dr. Nam Hyo-chang
“Listen to the stories of the trees and the forest!”
A New Encounter, 『Trees and Forests』

“Learning humility from the flowers, respect from the trees,
This is why humans need to meet the trees and the forest.
“It is the beginning of putting humility, respect, and ecological wisdom into practice in life.”

A Question About 'Ecology' - Is it ecological to know and memorize the names of trees?
The word 'ecology' has been a hot topic in our society for a long time.
However, the word 'ecology' used in the media is used differently, which can be confusing.
What exactly is an ecological life? Is it ecological to apply yellow-mud wallpaper and lay down wooden flooring? Or is it ecological to know the names of trees and flowers and be able to discern between edible and inedible? Or is it ecological to return to the countryside, build a log cabin, and eat organic vegetables? Nam Hyo-chang, author of "Trees and Forests," suggests that we learn about and classify the characteristics of trees, consider their utility, and always consider the question, "What do trees live for?"

“The word ‘environment’ contains an ideology that regards humans as the center of everything and everything other than humans as the ‘periphery.’
For the convenience of humans, it gives rise to the idea that they can cultivate, grow, and raise things as they please.
However, 'ecology' includes both living and non-living things, and it means that not only specific living things but all things have meaning and value for existence.
“Living ecologically means having the courage to bow down before all creatures in this world and having the respect to serve them all.”

The new king of forest commentary, "Trees and Forests"
Hangilsa's "Trees and Forests" is a new book that has been revised and reborn.
The book previously published by Gyeomyeongsa has long since established itself as a steady seller, serving as a textbook for forest interpreters.
As the author moved to Hangilsa, he actively reflected the opinions of forest interpreters he had studied and worked in the field, significantly supplemented and strengthened any shortcomings, and added photographs.
The commentary in Part 1 has been revised to be more user-friendly, and Part 2, which was composed of 20 chapters, has been reorganized into 18 chapters based on the 'neck'.
We tried to organize and improve the search system of the tree search table, which was difficult to see in the past, to make it easier to read.
In particular, the appendix 'Pocket Tree Search Table' included in the first edition will be supplemented in the future and made into an independent book.
Instead, the 'Pictorial Tree Glossary' included in the 'Pocket Tree Search Table' was added to the end of this book to appease readers' disappointment until the new 'Pocket Tree Search Table' is published.

For modern people who don't know the forest
Camping is a trend in South Korea these days.
At least go to a nearby arboretum or park.
They say that getting back into nature on the weekends is the most important thing for children these days.
But what can we say to the children when we go to the forest?
Before we scold the children who are only looking at their smartphones in the forest we took them to, let's think about what the adults felt in the forest.
It is the role of adults to encourage children to listen to what the forest is saying.

When asked, “Dad, what is this?” aren’t you giving a listless answer like, “It’s just a tree.”
I hope to meet some stalwart dads in the mountains and fields this fall who would answer, “Yes, these are oak leaves. The acorn jelly you like is made from the fruit of this tree.”
