Marine debris swallowed by whales
Marine debris swallowed by whales
Description
Book Introduction
“A comprehensive overview of marine debris, from its causes to its solutions!”
A children's picture book that addresses the current issue of marine debris.

The 14th Wiseman environmental science picture book, "The Whale Swallowed the Ocean Debris," has been published.
The amount of marine debris generated in our country is 150,000 tons annually, but only half of that amount is collected.
In particular, more than 80% of marine debris is plastic, and because it is not collected properly, it breaks down into small pieces and turns into microplastics.
The government plans to launch a campaign to reduce and collect plastic waste by half by 2030.

This book provides an easy-to-understand explanation of how marine debris devastates ecosystems, poses a threat to humans, and outlines the steps needed to reduce it.
Marine debris is a problem that children can empathize with and raise issues about, as the majority of it comes from the trash we throw away in our daily lives, even if we don't directly throw it into the ocean.
So, with easy-to-understand explanations and unique illustrations, we present the latest environmental issues and help children think about marine debris from various perspectives.

Publisher's Review
High-quality essential environmental education books fact-checked by environmental experts

One of the most common and serious errors in books and news about marine debris published on the market is the expression "trash island."
In fact, it is correct to say that it is a 'zone' where invisible microplastics are highly concentrated.
The expression that it is seven times the size of the Korean Peninsula is also unfounded.
Because it changes from moment to moment depending on how the scope of that area is defined.
Nevertheless, the reality is that fake news spreads without accurate fact-checking.

This book has been thoroughly reviewed by Lee Jong-myeong, director of the East Asia Marine Community Ocean, a civic research institute specializing in marine waste, thereby solidifying its credibility as a professional environmental picture book.
We also thoroughly filter out irresponsible solutions at the idea level, and present alternatives as proven, practical advice that children can put into practice.
In a world where it's difficult to find environmentally conscious books for children, this book is a welcome addition to our environmental education library.

If we reduce waste, whales will live and I will be happy.

Marine debris is 70% land-based debris that flows into the sea due to typhoons, heavy rain, etc., so efforts to reduce waste in daily life are urgently needed.
This book introduces various examples, including the need to develop habits to reduce waste, the development of alternatives for packaging materials that would otherwise become waste, and proactive efforts to clean up ocean trash.
It also provides a fresh stimulus for children to change their thinking and come up with new ideas by introducing them to the world of junk art, which involves creating works of art using waste materials.
This will help us save the lives of many marine creatures, including whales, and help us realize that we can live happily and healthily in harmony with nature.
This hopeful message will help us develop the qualities of true leaders who will take responsibility for the environment of the future.

Introduction to the 'Wizmann Environmental Science Picture Book' series
