Publisher's Review
Into the mystery of the universe, the origin of the Earth, me, and everything else
_The story of 15 celestial bodies that light up the night sky with their own light.
Glow, a human drama about the passionate journey of continuous exploration and exploration of the universe, is a book of knowledge that unravels modern astronomy and countless mysteries of the universe.
Noelia Gonzalez, the author of this book, worked as a senior science writer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center for over ten years, writing about the secrets of space and science and technology.
The author guides readers into the profound and fascinating mystical world of the universe.
This book covers a wide range of topics about the universe, based on the in-depth research and passion of several scientists, including the author.
It covers a wide range of topics, including 15 celestial bodies, including the Moon, the Sun, Polaris, Mercury, Orion's Belt, Venus, Halley's Comet, Mars, Alioth, Jupiter, Sirius, satellites, Acrux, the Milky Way, and the atmosphere, as well as black holes, galaxies, the birth of stars, and the structure of the universe.
We've tried to explain potentially boring space science knowledge in language that anyone can easily understand, making it an engaging read for both experts and general readers.
Beyond satisfying intellectual curiosity about astronomy, it satisfies our desire to explore the beginnings and future of humanity and understand our place in the universe.
It also opens up new perspectives on the universe, giving readers a sense of cosmic wonder and amazement.
The last page of the book contains a glossary of astronomical knowledge and celestial objects that will satisfy your curiosity, as well as various resources for gaining in-depth information about the universe.
Inspiring future space guides and everyday adventurers who will lead this world, and inspiring further exploration.
Open the large window above your head and broaden your view of the world through 《Glow Glow》.
A Guide to the Night Sky for Those Who Dream Bigger Than the Universe
The night sky holds amazing secrets that have fascinated people since the beginning of time.
We can spend hours each night gazing at the twinkling stars overhead and still discover something new.
《Glow》 guides readers into the heart of the ever-expanding universe and invites them to unknown worlds beyond Earth.
The story of space, recorded by Earth's scientists who walked along the stars with large telescopes, is filled with exciting astronomical events, focusing on the latest results of cutting-edge space research, including the size of celestial bodies, their atmospheres and temperatures, their distances from Earth, and the latest astronomical events.
It also satisfies cultural curiosity by telling you what specific planets or stars were called by different civilizations and what legends and myths are associated with them.
When you open the book, you are greeted by images of the wondrous and beautiful universe above us, with its infinite stars and planets.
It gives you a wonderful feeling of floating through space.
Captivating illustrations will quickly immerse you in amazing cosmic phenomena and new planetary exploration.
Each element in our body contains the history of the stars and the universe.
This is because the fragments of a star that exploded in space gathered together to form the planet Earth and create life.
We are beings with infinite possibilities, as vast as the universe itself.
This book fosters imagination about worlds beyond our own, a guide to the night sky for those who dream big, without limiting themselves, as big as the universe.
A night sky scene encompassing the history of the universe and space-time, captured with delicate and detailed brush strokes.
Sarah Boccaccini Meadows, who illustrated 《Glow》, used watercolor and gouache to capture the wonder and beauty of the universe.
Gouache is a painting created with an opaque paint made by mixing water, honey, and gum. Unlike watercolor, the paint remains on the surface of the paper, forming layers of paint that touch each other.
It is characterized by a sparkling luster, and the unique freshness and brightness, as well as the three-dimensional effect from the free brushstrokes, give it a dreamy feel.
Using delicate and sophisticated brushstrokes, he harmoniously combines organic celestial forms with geometric patterns and shapes, creating a unique balance and harmony throughout the painting.
I used colors that bring out the natural tones and added fairytale-like and imaginative elements throughout the work.
Experience the wonder and beauty of the universe as you gaze upon the landscape created by the expanding universe.
Author's Note
Above our heads there is a large window looking out into space.
Looking at the night sky gives us a glimpse of what lies beyond our planet.
No special tools are required.
All you need is bright eyes and a little curiosity.
But somehow we live our lives without looking at the night sky and the stars.
You don't have to go far to see the night sky.
Step outside and you'll see twinkling stars, a bright moon, and fantastic constellations overhead.
You can see falling meteors, and sometimes even machines that humans have launched into space.
We can also observe our solar system neighbors and the galaxy we live in.
Celestial bodies in the sky, whether bright or cloudy, are all cosmic superheroes.
It's difficult for people to live in such a place.
There is unimaginable extreme cold and heat, radiation, gas storms, and powerful forces.
Studying these celestial bodies, which were born hundreds of millions or billions of years ago, can provide clues to our origins and future.
This book introduces fifteen superheroes from the sky.
Looking at them, we can see that there is so much out there in the sky… but still, our home, Earth, is the best.
These celestial bodies tell us the time and serve as landmarks for our long journeys.
Some celestial bodies even help support life on Earth.
Since ancient times, people have looked up at the sky, fostering hope and imagination, and developing dazzling technologies for space exploration.
How did we come to live here? What will happen in the future? Is life only found on Earth? Humans have long wondered about these questions, and they have been studying celestial bodies to find answers.
Constellations change over time, but our ancestors dreamed under the same sky as we do.
They created many stories to try to understand this world and its mysterious universe.
Knowledge that is considered commonplace today, such as the principles of the rising sun and the changing phases of the moon, was discovered through hundreds or thousands of years of observation and research.
But even when the scientific principles are discovered, the stories remain and are still passed down by word of mouth.
As I wrote this book, I was filled with awe, just like when I looked up at the star-filled night sky as a child.
But it's all too easy to take these wonderful sights for granted.
I hope that after reading this book, you will go outside more often, look up at the sky, and enjoy the cosmic show.
―Noelia Gonzalez
