Into the book
Let's talk about children and democracy!
I highly recommend that adults read the February book "Democracy and Politics" before reading it with their children.
Compared to books on other topics, the target readers are older, and even if you start with an explanation of the concepts in the book, it is likely to lead to many questions.
Even if a book contains content that children may find difficult to understand right away, adults who read it first can gain hints for conversation by saying, "So this is how concepts can be explained in everyday life."

--- p.52

What are the values needed now, the lack of the times?
In "It's Okay to Be a Little Lacking," five friends—a friend with a big hole in their stomach, a friend with a wrinkled body, a friend who is sagging because of their flabby body, a friend who is upside down, and a friend who is a mess like a crumpled ball—are living happily in a shabby house without any special events.
Really? The children looked at the article saying that everything was fine, with a puzzled look.
One day, a perfect friend appears and looks at the five who are doing nothing pitifully, criticizing them, saying, “You are useless! You are nothing!”
The five friends chew over the shortcomings mentioned by their perfect friend.
There are holes, but when you get angry, the anger goes into the holes, and you can keep many memories between the wrinkles.
“Look at this.
Even if you think you have a weakness, if you think about it differently, it can become an advantage.
Some readers say, “It’s not that it’s lacking.”
Of course, that message is good, but the most beautiful scene in this picture book is when I ponder the words of my perfect friend and realize that I am okay just the way I am.
We all do.
Life is happier when I have friends who accept my shortcomings as they are.
There's no need to blame the perfect friend who attacked me.
A life where I affirm myself and accept others as they are is truly perfect.
There is no need to force yourself to change your shortcomings into strengths by meeting other people's standards.
There is no need to add or subtract anything.
You don't need to compare yourself to anyone else; just being you is enough.

"I don't see skin color, I only see friendship!" Interview with author Kim Gaemi
A gift from Dongducheon! In front of the house I live, there were three siblings: a black girl and her two older brothers.
As I was passing by that house, I saw a kid with really long legs, who was really good at running, and who played really well with the kids.
One day, that child passed by singing the Korean children's song 'Half Moon' so beautifully, and I couldn't believe how bright it was.
So, I wanted to write about a confident and pretty child who resembles that child.
I wanted to express in literature the pure beauty of a child that I was so fascinated by.
I think I put a lot of effort into it, with high expectations of how much it would shine when I invited it into the book.
Usually, in newspaper articles or broadcasts, foreign workers, their children, and multicultural families are often seen as objects of consideration.
I didn't want to do that.
I wanted the book to include the child himself, not as an object of consideration or as a weakling.

--- p.102

"Come and discover me." Meet author Park Seo-young.
“I feel a bit ‘wonderful’ about all the small characters who live their lives faithfully.
As I reread the book in preparation for the interview, the dog that did his job best seemed the most admirable.
If it weren't for the puppy, it would have been difficult to break the boy's tightly locked heart."
--- p.125

Why did Nobel Prize-winning authors write picture books?
Author Han Kang said that when she was twelve, she read Astrid Lindgren's "The Adventures of the Lion King Brothers" and began to wonder, "Why is the world so beautiful and yet so violent?"
This question later had a great influence on the author's writing of his masterpiece, The Boy Comes.
Author Han Kang said this at the Nobel Prize ceremony.
“A long time ago I lost my fundamental faith in humanity.
But how can we embrace the world? I realized that I couldn't move forward without confronting that impossible mystery, and that only through writing could I penetrate those questions and move forward."
It is said that author Han Kang writes with two questions in mind.
"Why is the world so violent and painful?" And at the same time, "How can the world be so beautiful?"

Editor-in-Chief Pyo Yoo-jin introduces 100% utilization of "Lakivium J 2025"

2025 Picture Book Calendar!

We recommend picture books that are good to read every day from January to December.
The concept of this month's picture book is explained at the top of the calendar, so read it first, and then look at the picture book for each day below.
Anniversaries, national holidays, public holidays, and seasonal events are marked in small letters next to the date, and books appropriate for each day are selected.

Although I recommend reading picture books every day, I hope you don't feel obligated to read them, as if it were homework.
Especially, don't force it on children! I hope this list will encourage the whole family to visit the library together once or twice a month, and encourage adults who love picture books to explore picture books written for children.
I hope this list will be a reference for you to give picture books as gifts to your children, friends, loved ones, and family.

2.
Experience the ultimate in picture book activities with Picture Book Plus, a 12-month program!

In addition to the calendar, we have introduced various ways to make the books recommended for that month more enjoyable.
It is mainly suitable for activities tailored to children's eye level, as well as for picture book therapy for adults and humanities studies.
We've gathered the expertise of the Lucky Team, experts in education, psychology, and picture books, so your satisfaction is 1000% guaranteed! We hope this will break the mold of "reading a book and doing something," and encourage you to think about the diverse themes that picture books address.

3.
Picture Books by Keywords - Empathy, Multiculturalism, Nobel Prize, Seniors

In the picture book through keywords section, which discusses the role and meaning of picture books through important keywords in our society, four keywords were introduced: empathy, multiculturalism, the Nobel Prize, and seniors.
For the keywords empathy and multiculturalism, I directly listened to voices from the educational field, and for the Nobel Prize keyword, I thoroughly searched through the list of picture books by Nobel Prize-winning authors published in Korea.
We also prepared stories from the operators and participants of picture book clubs for seniors.

4.
Let's also take a look at the picture book corner we'll be meeting in 2025, introduced directly by the bookmakers!
