Big Story Bible
Description
Book Introduction
From Genesis to Revelation, A book by an outstanding theologian and a charming illustrator. 140 Bible Stories! Tom Wright, a leading theologian of the 21st century, returns with a children's Bible. Combined with captivating illustrations, this book weaves together 140 theologically sound and engaging chapters of God's kingdom from Genesis to Revelation. Beautiful illustrations and entertaining stories will greatly help people of all ages to reflect on the great truths in their hearts, and through this, many families will gain a deeper understanding of the Bible. It is also a good book to give as a gift not only to children, but also to new church families and those seeking Jesus. “I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to write this book. Now that I have grandchildren of my own, I feel that many picture Bibles don't fully portray how God's great drama unfolds. So we tried to tell this drama in today's language and pictures. I hope everyone who reads this book will enjoy reading its 140 stories. I also hope you enjoy discovering the connections between the stories and exploring how each story organically fits into the larger picture of God's plan.” _Tom Wright |

Into the book
God wanted men and women to trust in Him.
But they were sad because they had listened to the cunning serpent.
It also saddened God that people tried to blame each other for their own mistakes.
With a heavy heart, God told them that they must leave the garden.
From now on, the two had to live as exiles.
Exiles are people who can no longer live in the place where they truly belong.
An angel with a flaming sword will guard the gates of the garden.
Life will become difficult and the world will become a dangerous place.
--- From "The World Has Wrong Path"
Before the people left, God told them to remember the special meal they had eaten.
They called this special meal 'Passover'.
God told them to gather together once a year and eat this Passover meal.
This meal will remind them of the night an angel passed over their house and the night their God, the Lord, delivered them from Egypt.
--- From "The First Passover"
“Until now I have lived in a tent.
And he took you, a shepherd boy, and made you a king.
You must keep my people safe.
I know you want to build a house for me.
But I will build a 'house' for you.
I promise that after you die, I will make your son king.
He is the one who will build the house where I will stay.
And his descendants, the house of David, will reign forever.”
--- From "God's Promise to David"
Esther was worried.
Esther knew Haman was plotting to remove her guardian, but what could she do to protect Mordecai? What could she do to prevent the slaughter of her people? Esther asked her friends to pray for her.
That night, the king, unable to sleep, had his servants read a document recording the events that had occurred during his reign.
So he remembered how Mordecai had saved his life.
--- From "Esther Saved Her People"
Meanwhile, on the hill outside the village, shepherds were tending their sheep.
Then, when everything was quiet, an angel suddenly appeared to them.
A bright light revealing the glory of God illuminated the surroundings.
“Don’t be afraid,” said the angel.
“I have good news for you! God’s true King has been born in Bethlehem.
If you want to see Him, you will find Him sleeping in the manger.” At that moment, all of heaven was filled with angels praising God.
--- From "Jesus is Born!"
Jesus was smiling.
“Maria!” he said.
Maria looked up, and her heart began to pound.
“Teacher!” The tears of sadness she had been shedding were now tears of joy.
After a while, Jesus said,
“Go and tell my disciples that I am going to my Father and your Father.” Mary wanted to be with Jesus, but she did as he told her and went to the disciples and told them that Jesus had risen.
--- From "Jesus is Risen"
“Love is generous, love is kind, love is not jealous, love is not self-centered, love does not insist on its own way, love is not easily angered or resentful, love does not rejoice at the harm done to others, but rejoices in the truth.” Then Paul summarized:
“Faith, hope and love are the things that really matter.
But the most important of all is love.”

Publisher's Review
From Genesis to Revelation,
A book by an outstanding theologian and a charming illustrator.
140 Bible Stories!
★ Tom Wright's first children's book, 'Big Story Bible', published!
Children's Bibles, which are like a taster, with a little from the Old Testament and a little more from the New Testament, give us no sense of how God's great drama unfolds.
This is the 'big story' that the Bible tells about God's plan of salvation for this world.
While the focus is, of course, on the story of Jesus, this great story returns directly to its beginnings in Genesis with the first creation and moves forward to its climax in the new creation at the end of Revelation.
Many Christians seem to think the Bible is simply about Jesus and how, because of him, we can go to heaven after we die.
If we return to the Old Testament in this context, we find that many of its stories have little to offer us beyond a few moral lessons.
As a result, much of the Bible has become a kind of Christian version of Aesop's Fables.
The problem with that approach is that it fails to convey God's "big story" of which each story is a part.
This is the great story that tells us that this world is the place where God came to be with us, His creatures.
That is the story the Bible tells consistently from Genesis onward.
The focus is on Jesus, the Word made flesh, and his death and resurrection that brought about salvation.
We have tried to tell this drama in today's language and images.
I hope you, your children, your grandchildren, your young nieces and nephews, and everyone who encounters this book will enjoy reading the 140 stories collected here.
I also hope you enjoy discovering the countless connections between these stories and exploring how each story organically fits into the larger picture of God's plan.
The plan is to make this world God's home, and to finally unite heaven and earth once again.
