Into the book
Children who responded to floortime therapy behaved very differently from children who responded to ABA.
Unlike ABA treatment children who made robotic facial expressions, these children showed affectionate behavior with rich facial expressions that were no different from those of typical children.
When a child who was expressionless starts to develop facial expressions, and when a child who was not interested in people starts to show affectionate attention, these are signs that the child is overcoming autism.
--- p.38

The goal of floor time is to help children develop independently through full interaction with them.
If there's one thing that's absolutely essential to understand in order to achieve perfect interaction, it's affect.
Affect is any message that contains emotion.
Opposes normative discipline or mechanical messages.
Any tool will do.
It includes everything, including words, facial expressions, gestures, voice, and thoughts.
We must make sure that children can feel the affect.
--- p.66

Greenspan stated that the core reason for children's developmental delay is the problem of 'emotion-sensory-physical movement integration' and that rich socio-emotional interactions can solve the problem of developmental delay.
Children with developmental delays may develop a year or more later than typically developing children.
However, if this child takes each step firmly and firmly, even if it is a little late, development will continue.

--- p.126

Because they are together but do not communicate emotionally, parents do not know what their children want.
So again, we present this and that to the child.
This brings the story back to the beginning.
I know that it starts with being together rather than doing something, but the thought that I have to do something again to be together keeps popping into my head because I think the child will want to do something.
--- p.174

The speech therapy proposed by Floortime is not a forced speech therapy, but a treatment method that emphasizes the process of sharing and communicating.
It is not enough to simply call this the floortime approach.
I would like to call Floortime's speech therapy the most humane and compassionate speech therapy.

What is floor time?
The Best Ways to Help Children with Social Developmental Delays Develop and Learn

Floortime is a very powerful and effective treatment that helps the development and learning of children with social developmental delays, such as those with ADHD, autism, or Asperger's syndrome.
The authors, who have long worked to implement floor time in the field to treat children with developmental disabilities, introduce the concept and practice of floor time in this book.
This is the first book written about floor time in Korea.
Although there have been translated books on floor time, it was difficult to apply floor time to reality with just those.
Also, children's play methods that could not be called floor time were pretending to be floor time.
This book discusses what is and is not floor time and how to practice floor time in a way that is tailored to the circumstances of our country.
This book, which covers the theory and practice of floor time, along with specific examples, will serve as a practical guide for parents and therapists who want to implement 'proper' floor time.

Why Floortime?

Floor time is the only essential treatment that can improve all conditions that accompany social deficits in children.
Compared to floortime, other treatments are more appropriately termed training rather than therapy.
Most child development therapies force children to repeat specific movements and skills, but Floortime is different.
It brings about fundamental changes in children's brain and neural development by inducing them to experience the process of developing sociality in a compressed manner.
Unlike other therapies that focus solely on acquiring social skills, Floortime focuses on the child's normal development.
Floortime helps children regain their natural facial expressions, play with others, and enjoy interacting with their surroundings.
Children who have undergone floor time development grow up without much difference from normal children.
Floor time is also a parenting method that can be applied to general children.
Floortime breaks away from parent-led, spoon-fed parenting and emphasizes child initiative, encouraging awakening and development through interaction.
Floor time is also a common parenting method that promotes healthy and creative emotional and social development in children.
Floortime is a fun and respectful way to help children grow, especially those with autism and developmental challenges, to reach their full potential.

Floortime, it really needs to be done properly.

Although floor time has only recently been introduced in Korea, the number of places practicing floor time is increasing.
The authors, who have been working hard to popularize floor time for the past several years, admit that while they welcome this recent trend, they are frustrated beyond discouragement when they see the reality.
Not only are there misunderstandings about floor time, but play therapy that cannot be called floor time is running rampant under the name of floor time.
Floor time cannot be considered simply playing with children at the center.
First, you must have a solid understanding of the theoretical framework in order to assess the level and changes in child development and implement floor time accordingly.
This book summarizes the essence of floortime theory and encompasses the experiences of the Korea Floortime Center.
Even in the United States, where there are many related books, it is rare to find a book that covers everything from theory to practice.
In addition, this book contains specific plans and abundant examples for implementing floor time in accordance with the reality of Korea.
This book will serve as a customized tutorial and teaching aid for parents and therapists who wish to implement proper floor time.
