Description
Book Introduction
Discover cute and adorable math concepts with 50 science icons!
I'll teach you the joy of studying math!
Following the publication of 『Science and Mathematics』 in June 2020, 『Science and Mathematics』 has finally been published.
Among the science icons jointly developed by Monggu and Memil and released on KakaoTalk, 50 math-related science icons were selected to provide children with interest and enjoyment in math.
This book uses puns and characters to help children understand unfamiliar math terms.
In particular, we focused on questions such as, 'Why were these symbols created?' and 'Why were these formulas created?'
By uncovering the hidden meanings of symbols like the equal sign, factorial, and infinity through the history of mathematics and learning about historical figures like Archimedes and Pythagoras through comics, you will learn that mathematics is a rather interesting subject.
Although this book does not cover complex principles and formulas, it can serve as an excellent companion for children embarking on their first journey into the seemingly unfamiliar and difficult world of mathematics.

Publisher's Review
Fun math games to improve math literacy
Just as first impressions are important in any encounter, if math, which we first encountered in elementary school, is perceived as a difficult subject with a lot to memorize and an endless stream of difficult problems, studying math itself becomes a difficult task.
When you advance to middle or high school, you end up becoming a math dropout, and the reason is surprisingly simple.
This is because the mathematical symbols and terms I encountered for the first time felt unfamiliar, and I developed a vague fear of mathematics.
These early imagery of mathematics creates serious problems for mathematical literacy, and these problems become worse as students progress through the grades.
So, self-directed learning becomes a dream that cannot be dreamed of.
The best way to solve these problems is to become friends with the math symbols or terms that you encounter for the first time.
What if we could shake off the vague fear of math and make math a charming friend through humorous science icons and cartoon stories?
In that sense, let's think of math as a kind of play for young readers who read this book by using the science icons released through KakaoTalk in their daily lives.
Then, you will probably discover a fun and interesting side of mathematics that you have never felt before, and you will definitely be motivated to study mathematics.
Fun and concepts all in one! The Science Icon Series
In fact, the science icon was first released as an emoticon, not a book, and it is a series that has already had 6 installments.
The E-Gwaticon was famous online even before its release. Initially, the author, Monggu, planned the E-Gwaticon alone and applied for it on KakaoTalk, but was rejected.
And while posting the story on an online community, I met the artist, Memil.
Even though the two of them joined forces and failed three more times, they did not give up and kept trying, and were able to successfully launch the product.
Thanks to such a story and ingenious idea, the E-Gwaticon became a bestseller as soon as it was released.
The writer, Monggu, is an engineering student who graduated from the Department of Genetic Engineering, and the illustrator, Memil, is an engineering student who graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering.
The “Science Icon Series” was born from the diverse scientific knowledge and experience of these two people.
And by utilizing the know-how of webtoon and emoticon production, we have captured the core of each term to make it easier and more fun for young readers.
『Science and Mathematics』, which combine fun and concepts, will be a delightful book that not only children but anyone will never forget once they read it.
