Description
Book Introduction
Letters from Prison: The Power of the Gospel That Even Prison Could Not Contain

What we call the "prison epistles" in the New Testament are four letters Paul wrote from prison: Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon.
But Paul may have sent more than just those four letters.
For example, we know that Paul sent at least one more letter to Laodicea, near Colossae (Col 4:16).
If that letter had survived, we would have another New Testament book, the Book of Laodicea.
Scholars still debate which prison Paul was in when he wrote at least five of these letters.
Most scholars claim it was Rome, but many say it was Ephesus.
Fortunately, however, the question of where the letters were written is not particularly important for our reading and understanding of the prison letters.
Because the meaning contained in the letters does not change significantly just because the location changes.

What is important is the heart Paul had for the churches as he wrote his letters from prison.
Of course, Paul hints at his imprisonment three times in each of his four letters, making the saints aware of his situation and sometimes using it wisely (Eph. 3:1; 4:1; 6:20; Phil. 1:7, 13, 14; Col. 4:3, 10, 18; Phil. 1:1, 9, 13).
Yet, Paul does not dwell on his own circumstances or emotions, but focuses more on the expansion of God's kingdom that he will accomplish through him and on the souls of the saints who will be corrected and transformed in the churches that were in trouble through his letters.
Ultimately, Paul was imprisoned, but his gospel went forth freely, restoring and reconciling many church communities and individual believers.
So, in order to understand and share Paul's powerful gospel and earnest heart more easily and deeply, Pastor Kang San published "Prison Letters, Unraveled Bible."

Publisher's Review
In this translation in particular, we poured a lot of energy into the direct translation to make the difficult context of the prison letter as easy to understand as possible.
Until now, some readers have ignored the direct translations in the “Unraveled Bible Series” as if they were appendices, but this translation will be different.
The meaning of each Greek verse is summarized first, and then the Greek and literal translation are separated by paragraph for easy viewing in parallel and intuitive manner. This will be of great help even to believers who do not know Greek.
Of course, for the paraphrased portion, the author consulted the best annotations and translations available, as well as related papers, to ensure that the literal meaning of the original text was not lost, while also conveying the meaning of the context naturally.
Additionally, an insightful overview of each volume of the Prison Letters is provided before each letter begins, so even just reading this will be very helpful.
In addition, we have added a QR code containing 32 sermons for the beloved congregation of our church along with a newly created map specifically for this translation, making this book the best translation and message for understanding and applying Paul's prison epistles—Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon—to life.
