The books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther deal with how the survivors and descendants formed a community of faith and lived in their respective places after the exile of Israel.
The second part of the Old Testament, the twelve books from Joshua to Esther, are often called the "historical books."
The book of history covers the history of Israel's conquest of Canaan, the origins and early history of the Israelite monarchy, and the period leading up to the division of the kingdom and the fall of the Northern and Southern kingdoms.
