South Korea's cult leaders, sometimes shockingly evil and sometimes bizarrely absurd, have all been mobilized.
Jang Woon-cheol, the nation's top investigative reporter specializing in pseudo-religions with 30 years of experience, was consulted by domestic investigative reporting programs such as "I Am God," "I Want to Know That," and "PD Notebook" before covering pseudo-religions.
He also appeared in person in the Lee Jae-rok episode of “I Am God.”
His recently published book, “I am a Cult Leader,” is literally an accusation of the behavior of cult leaders.
Statistically, it is said that there are about 80 revealed pseudo-religious leaders in South Korea.
But the author says that this is just the 'tip of the iceberg', and that because the characteristic of pseudo-religions is self-concealment, they are very close to us.
The devil's power is always ready to reach out to us, our families, and those around us.
The method of disguising itself as an ordinary-looking church and gradually brainwashing the recruited believers into believing in the leader as God is vividly described in the second chapter of Part 1, “The Art of Escaping from the Den of Evil.”

At first glance, it may seem like a sensational publication that exposes the corruption of a pseudo-religion.
However, this book tries not to reveal the real names of the religious leaders and groups.
The author explains that this is to focus on the 'behavior' of the cult leaders.
He delves into the methods used by cult leaders, the types of people they target, and the characteristics they possess.
By doing so, the reader demonstrates his or her will to create a world where the reader, his or her family, and our neighbors are not deceived by cult leaders.
Parts 1-3 of the book discuss the behavior of these cult leaders.
According to the author, Korean religious leaders are broadly divided into two groups.
'A fraud or a lunatic'.
This explains the purpose of the cult leaders.

In other words, it is not because you are stupid that you are being deceived.
While pointing this out, the author presents a single fundamental reason for the proliferation of pseudo-religious leaders in Korea.
It is precisely the lack of love.
For those struggling with anxiety, loneliness, and social isolation, the leader's vague yet confident tone can sound like a gospel that resonates incredibly well.
People who are sick or their families are especially prone to falling for this kind of bluffing.
In the fourth part, the "How to Become a Cult Leader" section, the key points of this cult leader's brainwashing strategy are pointed out, half jokingly and half seriously.

Promote indiscriminately until someone gets caught.
To create an escape hole by continuously saying two words with one mouth.
According to the author, if you use this strategy and get caught up in even one blind faith, from then on, it's 'swimming with your feet on the ground' and it's smooth sailing.

This type of tactic of 'just one person' is seriously problematic because it targets the socially vulnerable, especially the good members of society.
The most effective weapon to defend against this is primarily the love of those around us, and more broadly, the interest of the social community.
As a pastor, the author does not spare advice for believers.
The point is that you must live a 'good' religious life so that you do not fall for the traps of cults.
In particular, the advice to distinguish between mystery and mysticism and to pursue the former without being obsessed with the latter is particularly weighty.
This is a valuable book that shares a common thread of interest, readability, public interest perspective, and reflection on our society.
