The Joy of the Gospel
Description
Book Introduction
This document, entitled “On the Proclamation of the Gospel in the Modern World,” was published on 26 November 2013 as an exhortation of Pope Francis to clergy, religious, consecrated persons and laity.
“The joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus.” With these words, Pope Francis begins this document, which explores the theme of “The Proclamation of the Gospel in Today’s World.” Through this exhortation, the Pope encourages Christians to embark on a new phase of evangelization and indicates a new path for the Church to follow in the coming years.
In this exhortation, Pope Francis invites us to rediscover the original freshness of the Gospel, seeking “new paths” and “creative methods.”
And he encouraged us to become a church that is out on the streets, wounded, hurt, and defiled, rather than a church that is closed off and unhealthy and only cares about its own comfort.
Meanwhile, this document is the first official document of Pope Francis since the encyclical Lumen fidei, which he wrote together with his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, and which he handed over to 36 faithful after the closing Mass of the Year of Faith on November 24, 2013.
