Into the book
While I was unpacking my grandfather's luggage with my mother all night, I discovered the space where he had hidden it.
There was a small door on the inside wall of the closet.
It was a space that looked like a safe from a movie or drama.
But of course, there was no safe or treasure in Grandfather's secret space.
There was only a single diary lying around.
The cover of the diary was made of faux leather with a slightly faded, dark brown tint, but the inside was pure white.
It looked like new paper.
How can this be?
--- p.18~19, from the text “Chapter 1: A Keepsake or a Gift”

I opened my grandfather's diary.
What should I do first?
Oh, I have to write the date first.

Today's Date: Sunday, April 14th / Today's Weather: Cloudy

As I put the pen to paper, suddenly sentences I hadn't written yet appeared on my diary.

“I went to my grandfather’s house today.
It's been six years."

Huh? What is this?
Did I just write this sentence? My diary entry was being written in my own handwriting on a white sheet of paper.
"what's this?"
My hands were shaking slightly.
--- p.22~24, from the text “Chapter 1: A Keepsake or a Gift”

I am a female high school student in South Korea and a second year student.
And I am experiencing transferring schools for the first time in my life.
I crossed the school gate feeling like a complete stranger.
My goal at this school is to graduate normally.
A graduation that can be achieved by simply attending class without standing out or attracting anyone's attention.
Even though it may seem insignificant, that is my dream.
I kept telling myself, “Let’s not get involved with anyone, let’s talk less, let’s just endure it.”
Let's just live an ordinary life as a kid with a few friends in the same class.
--- p.33, from the text, “Chapter 2 Transfer Student Na Ye-yoon”

There are now about ten days left until that day.
If it's short, ... and if it's long, it's long.
I decided to jump into everything that was going to happen there, no matter what.
What can I do?
The future has already changed once, so there is no reason why it can't be changed again.
The name I found while looking through the diary this time was Hyeji.

--- p.131, from the text, “Chapter 6: The Second Suspect, Conflicted Hearts”

"Do you know why our class didn't take any action regarding Seo Hae-jin? It's because we said it was all staged.
In short, it's a 'prank' played between friends.
Our homeroom teacher also reported the incident as soon as he found out about it in early March.
But now you can't touch it.
Haejin said it himself.”
“What did you say?”
“This is all a joke.”
As Suyeon spoke like that, Haejin's voice suddenly overlapped.
An imaginary voice that I think might be that kind of voice.
I had never heard Haejin's voice before.
Suyeon said she went to the teachers' office to run an errand and stopped by.
Suyeon also said that the voice she heard that day from Haejin was the first and last time she heard it.
'This is all a joke.'
'I'm not being bullied.'
--- p.191, from the text, “Chapter 7: The Third Suspect, the Untold Truth”

Because Suyeon was always smiling and didn't show any signs of anger, I vaguely assumed that nothing had happened, so I didn't care about anything.
Because I always believed that everything would be fine, I was missing out on the things that Suyeon always said.

I couldn't fathom the habit of always wearing a long-sleeved coat, the saying that what you can't see is scarier, the saying that no one is okay with being hurt, the way you worried about being caught on other people's cameras, the day you smashed Ki-seok's camera to pieces, or Su-yeon's inner thoughts when she occasionally said the words I wanted to hear.
Those words you said to me were ultimately the words you wanted to hear too.
“I guess the reason I saw the future today was to save you.
I kept thinking about this as I climbed the mountain behind the school.
What on earth could change the future?
Some things will remain the same, and some things will flow as they have changed.
All I changed was the incident.
“In the end, it was the people who remained the same.”
--- p.244, from the text, “Chapter 8, That Day”

If your heart is broken, I want to tell you that it is difficult.
So, you can say it.
I'm having a hard time right now, so I'm asking for help.
Just like Ye-yoon's choice, I hope that readers will also find a perfect ending.
--- p.275, from the main text, “Author’s Note”

Publisher's Review
The intense growth that begins at the moment life and death intersect.
A new novel by Go Hye-won, a rising star in Korean literature.

Author Go Hye-won, who has been receiving attention as a rising star in Korean literature, has won the grand prize at the K-Story Contest for her captivating story and vividly portrayed scenes, and has subsequently secured contracts for film adaptations and overseas exports.
He returns with a young adult novel, this time with an even more powerful narrative.
In "A Diary That Sees the Future," the dazzling growth of young people unfolds as they finally heal their long-standing wounds at the border between life and death and save their own future through the present.
This work, which sharply captures the realistic issues of teenagers while containing plot twists and turns, simultaneously satisfies the genre pleasures of English adult, fantasy, and mystery. It will provide an 'overwhelming sense of immersion' that will have you completely absorbed in the story from the moment you open the first page.

“Changing my future...
“Is that you?!”
A story full of twists and turns, a breathless pace, and a story that will keep you hooked until the very end!

One day, before transferring to another school, Ye-yoon discovers a suspicious diary among her deceased grandfather's belongings.
A so-called 'diary that can see the future' that automatically records what will happen that day just by writing the date.
Ye-yoon, who was looking at this with curiosity, was soon shocked.
Because your future is no longer written in the diary after 14 days.
Only 14 days left until the fateful event! Something unexpected will happen to me soon.
Who will be the culprit threatening Ye-yoon's fate? The unfamiliar friends at her new school? Or someone completely unexpected? The novel unfolds as Ye-yoon delves into the people around her who threaten her fate, intersecting with the suspects' confessions.
In the process, the truth about the endless competition, jealousy, and complex relationships that unfold in the indifferent classroom is finally revealed.

“A novel for all students struggling right now.”
A narrative that confronts today's reality and moves toward a better tomorrow.

Just as the past can save the present, today can also save the future.
Although everyone knows this, we often forget it and live our lives with it, and “A Diary That Sees the Future” makes us realize this fact once again.
This work maintains the virtue of a novel that unfolds imagination about time and fate through the device of a "diary that shows the future," while also confronting realistic issues of adolescence such as school violence, alienation and loss, and family conflict.
And after drawing readers into a world that we would rather ignore but that we have all experienced at least once, it finally gives them the burning courage to find a solution to their problem and move forward toward a better tomorrow.

The author says:
If you are having a hard time right now, your future will change from acknowledging and facing that fact.
The ending you want will only come when you face your present squarely.
It's time to experience the brilliant and heartwarming narrative of tomorrow, drawn by author Go Hye-won, who listened deeply to the struggles and unknown pain of adolescence.
